It makes so much sense for him to stay. He seems like a decent, grounded lad. He's obviously happy here. Sure, he could have gone to Marseille this summer for a big payrise, but in terms of his career it doesn't make much sense. He'd be moving to a nothing league, where only 1 club is realistically going to win it.

The alternative is he gives us another year. If he continues to develop and get better, then next summer, even if we go down (and he has a good season) there will be far bigger and better offers coming in than Marseille, for a player who has (hopefully) shown that he can perform in the highest quality league in the world.

I'm a bit behind/out of the loop on his contract negotiations, but I'd hope the club are throwing the lot at him. Give him the number 10 shirt, make him the highest paid player we've ever had, do it all. He is potentially the difference between relegation and survival for us. He is by a country mile the best, most talented player I (and most others) have ever seen play for us. We're going to lose him at some point, he's going to end up playing at the very, VERY top, but if we can keep him for one more year, and he keeps us up, then he can go on to wherever he ends up with my best wishes and thanks.
I’m not sure he would get more at Marseille, the French league isn’t awash with cash and many clubs are in trouble since they budgeted based on a really high TV deal which then collapsed.
Their wage bill is less than ours when we were last in the EPL.
Even if we gave him £100k per week it makes total financial sense, a £5m outlay in wages for a transfer fee in 12 months time of several times that so it pays for itself.
I can’t see Marseille matching that.

Stress less, they've got to make a bid yet.

And when they do we will likely say...

Something along the lines of "Don't want to sell to a relegation rival"

I think that's the wording they're using for O'Brien these days.

I'm not stressed at all.
Just think it's odd to dismiss the possibility out of hand when there's several reasons he might give it some thought.

For balance, he's settled here, the main man and the release clause will make staying an attractive option to him.
But these factors don't totally negate all of the other ones.

There would still be some consideration (1) if Forest put £20m in front of us and (2) if they offered Ndiaye big money to go.

Then a big fat fairy came down and granted all Coopers wishes.
What a load of crap.

But at this moment in time, Ndaiye doesn't have a say in it.
It's only whether or not we'd be daft enough to sell our greatest asset to a club who are likely to be a fellow relegation rival.
Especially as Ndaiye is going to be in our team compared to
O' Brien who hasnt been in theirs.

Regarding Forest, there’s also the loyalty aspect.

The club allowed a situation to unfold where Illy’s team captain got blind sided with an additional media circus for Brewster and McBurnie due to the dog fancier.

If I was Illy I wouldn’t go near the place.

Absolutely no logic to joining Forest.

He's not gonna turn down his boyhood club, who are in the Champions League then jump ship from one relegation fodder team to another.

If Tottenham, Villa, Brighton etc. came in for him, i'd be worried.
If Arsenal, Man U, Man C, Liverpool or Newcastle came in for him, i'd cry.

Rather than all these hilarious GIFs, do you fancy countering any of the points maode?
My take is: we are at a disadvantage with our negotiations, because there's only 1 year left - so we're more likely to insert favourable clauses; reasonable release fee, relegation options etc.
Forest would be buying him outright and would most likely insist on a longer contract with less favourable clauses - if any.
Illi can sign with us, get a Premier League season and possibly leave next season to a bigger club, whereas signing for Forest could see him there for his full 4 year contract.

If I was Illi, the one thing that I would rate right now as the most important thing would be "playing time + quality of league"

The money will be great whoever he joins, that's a given, but I don't think it would be smart for his career development right now to be playing in an inferior league or dropping his minutes. If he signs a contract here either way at the end of the season he is gone. We get relegated and he gets snapped up or he keeps us up and he gets snapped up.

His ultimate goal I imagine is CL football, he would get that with OM but it is not nailed on to play at this stage. So this year is his stepping stone season, it doesn't make sense for him to move knowing he will likely have to move again.

I'd be way more worried if the interest was from a PL team with a shot at Europe and a spot that they are specifically looking to fill by signing him.

I hope that after Ndiaye has signed a contract (fingers crossed) it comes out that PH is really keen on signing Gibbs-White. We can all play silly buggers.
Agree.

What else is high up on his list?

Lunch with Queen Elizabeth?
Set foot on the moon?

All equally unobtainable (we'd hope).

Would be as bad as selling someone to Wednesday given their scummy behaviour all but 12 months back.

Surely meaningful Champions League football should be the aim.

Looking at the shitlist of has beens and nobodies in their squad, that could be getting knocked out in the qualifiers or getting bent over and rogered no lube in the group stages, similar to Sander's experience. All he's got to show for it is an off hand comment from Klopp in yet another beating.

Have a good year next year and he can probably play there for a team who can get past the group stages.

Forest tried to get him last season actually, think they bid around £7m! If any club wants Ili now it's got to be minimum £20m, with a huge sell on clause considering the low transfer fee for a player of his ability. If Forest want him I'd want at least £30m and Morgan Gibbs-White back to us as part of the deal! It's gonna be sickening seeing MGW wear that shirt next season!

In my humble opinion, that IS nice, that's why i said it.
But scarily, due to the fact he's wealthier than us, he could get laid much more often than we can IF HE CHOSE. I'm not saying he's David pleat or anything....

I'm in Sunny beach Bulgaria and I'm certainly not being an angel 😇 😇 😇 😇 😇 🏖️🏖️🏖️🍺🍻🍺🍻🍺🍻🍺

I like Cooper. He'd be stupid not to put Ndiaye on his wish list.

I know its worked out well (eventually), but I do think we should have listened to Wilder's advice and replaced him with Cooper the Summer we went for Slav.

There are a few gambles with life and some pay off.

1) Keeping him without him signing a new deal, I don't see as a gamble too much as it gives us a chance that we stay up which probably brings in another £40 million which should see us be able to look at the overseas market if he was to leave on a free.
Con with that is no sell on clause if he does go onto be a massive hit

2) Selling him now - price has to be right, if Alex Scott price for Bristol City is right (already turned down rumoured bids of £20million) and now rumoured they want £25million I think we should be looking at £30million +

Pros to the above: £30million in the bank

An Absolute must - any contract deal must come with a decent sell on clause, if he signs say for 4/5 years at Marseille (not in the know) he would be reaching a peak in his career, if he reaches full potential at a champions league club. A Saudi club or a European giant will be looking at least 3 x the current value.

Cons Apart from Ndiaye going he is on by all accounts a small wage budget offering excellent return for money. Bringing in a player for £25-30million hasn't been one of our strongest points in the past and is also a gamble so it could be the case we are looking at 2 players however that then brings a point of integration to the squad, the team already has a new ID from that of a few weeks ago with 3 new additions, could adding another 2 upset the dressing room or is that a chance we might have to take.

Wtf?

Sitting down with reps of the Blades?

Chatting up Ndiayes family to convince them to change their mind?

Fk off
