Having taken 3 trains through some places I never even knew existed I arrived in Crawley at about 11:15. I had arranged to meet Olle at 11 and ModTheGod a little later. Olle, being the tight arse that he is, had decided to save money and cycle down from London. I think it's fair to say this goes down as not one of his better decisions. Olle finally joined us at 12:40 - that's right, 1hr 40 minutes late.
Having had a a decent couple of ales in the weatherspoons, paying £1.89 for a pint of Ruddles, I went across to the Brewery Tap which was a great little pub with plenty of real ales on the go.
A few ales later we decided to cab it to the ground getting there just in time for kick off no thanks to the ridiculous queue at the turnstiles (only 2 open for us).
The first half was pretty uneventful with the blades having a decent chance whena good move ended with Flynn feeding in kitson whose shot was deflected over. Crawley showed glimpses of why they have 2 promotions under their belt in the last 2 seasons. But the key element was that they had absolutely nothing in the final 3rd to match their play. Then came a moment of quality to separate the two teams when McMahon fired in a free kick into the bottom corner. In my opinion their keeper was at fault for not lining up his wall correctly. At half time we spoke to a Crawley fan who said we were all over them.
The second half was pretty much all Crawley in terms of possession but our defence stood firm with Maguire and Collins dealing with everything that came their way - Maguire in particular was immense. Blackman twisted at the edge of their box and fired our best chance straight at the keeper. Ironside came on for the tiring Kitson and his clever play earned a free kick in a central position that I thought was too far out to shoot. McMahon knew better though as he placed an unstoppable free kick (our view) into the top corner. Cue absolute mahem in the away end. There was still time for Macdonald to burst forward and create a good chance for himself shooting low to the keeper's right that ended up a pretty routine save. Crawley continued to press without looking dangerous and the 2-0 scoreline was never really in doubt. Some great banter between the fans and stewards in the corner particularly when the 'orange jacket' gave back all the inflatables. He used to be shite, but now he's alright...
We walked back to the town centre and back to the Brewery tap for a few more ales and a chat with a Crawley fan. He said we hammered them and were one of the best sides he'd seen there. I asked him who he thought our best player was and his response: "that little feller on the wing". That would be Flynn. Didn't quite see it myself.
3 trains later I arrived back home and somehow managed to not fall asleep at all so that was a win in itself.
Cracking day, good ale, clean sheet, 2 superb goals, 3 points and top of the league. I'd have taken that at the start of the weekend.
Wizards.

I've done stupider things than mi cycle yest-di, but it weren't mi brightest decision ever. Transport too and from the game only cost a fiver though. Shoiuld have been a straight 2 hour ride, but the wind and rain (and a few Surrey Hills) stopped that. Would have been a lovely route, but for the conditions. I was pretty much on time until I took a wrong turn and actually ended up in Gatwick Airport. Took mi fookin ages t get art and then I had to take the pavement of the horrible A24 into Crawley. It took me bastard ages (getting sent the wrong way twice) to find the Leisure Centre to get a shower. Cue Ollessendro being an hour and a half late. moDtheGod was drinking on his own in the Brewery SHADES and BladeInThatcham was drinking on his own in the Spoons, but they did not think to ring each other!?

Good day out mind. The match was pretty poor, but United were pretty comfortable. It was a good away performance. We were rock solid and Long did not have a save to make. We created all the chances and scored at the right times. McMahon's 2nd free kick came at a time when Crawley were putting us under a lot of pressure. After that it was plain sailing, Thought Maguire and Collins were excellentand the full backs played well. Flynn put a proper shift in, Blackman showed flashes of brilliance and McMahon stole the show with 2 very good free kicks.

We are now top of the league and have a great opportunity to cement it. It is essential that we win the next 2 home games against very poor opposition. On the whole it has been a pretty good first half of the season. We've been far from spectacular, but sit top. The division is so poor it is untrue. Hopefully we can build on what we've got and go onto get out of this godforsaken division.

Good report by the way. Spot on. We must have had a skinful, cos I was wasted when I got home. Our lass med me sleep on the futon in the spare room!?

What Olle said really. We controlled the first half, got a lovely goal and deserved our lead at half time. Second half was totally predictable: we sat back, played too deep and gave Crawley every chance to get back in the game, being content to try and hit them on the break. McMahon's second goal was worth every mile we travelled and from then on, it was game over.
Me and my mate Marcus joined Olle, MOD the god and Blade in Thatcham for a drink in the Brewery Shades before heading back to London and a stonker of a chicken shish from the Charlton Kebab House.
Great awayday again. COYRAWW.

I sometimes cycle "shitfaced" from the Commercial in Chapeltown to my home in Worsbrough Barnsley. It's the only way to tackle that chuffin hill out of Chap.

Great stuff. Ony an idiot would cycle it. I love it Olle!

All credit to Ollessendro for trying to shift some timber and save cash by cycling to the game, but I love the pattern of Olle's cycling stories. For those that don't read the cycling thread, Olle is building a reputation for himself (despite being told to plan the route properly) for getting lost...

Olle's cycling stories tend to have the same theme... "I was belting along and would've been early/ on for my fastest time but I took a wrong turn and ended up at gatwick/ Carlisle/ Moscow/ Kabul, I only ended up being 3 days late and due to improper bike maintenance I managed to bust a spoke, which resulted in the bike imploding" or something to that effect.

BladeInThatcham nice report :)

Swiss, another thing Olle hasn't mentioned is that he left his rucksack in the Brewery Shades before the game and when we got back to the pub two hours after, it was still there, untouched and intact!!
Can you imagine that happening in London ? Half of the west end would be shut down while they called the bomb squad to carry out a controlled explosion.

This reported has made me feel a bit better. I was worried about reported possession of 71% - 29% in favour of Crawley

All good on here guys. Thanks for the stories of the day and Olle's cycling. A good cheery note to take us in to the Festive season.

Have a wonderful/ peaceful / relaxing or whatever time you wish for this Christmas, to all on here, all the best.

Foxy / Linz- thanks, If you can post the video of the goal with all the Santa s running down the front it was great fans footage.

Ha ha, he's reit. I got to the ground and thought 'ah fook, where's mi bag'. When I got back to the pub I asked the bar maid whether someone had handed a bag in. No was her reply. I was like 'oh double fook', until I wondered back to where I had been sitting and it was still there. It was full of my sweaty, sodden cycling gear, so there's no wonder no chuff tried to nick it.

That would be me in the Shades then;)...Thanks for the chat lads and glad you enjoyed your day....

Was that you Titch? The Crawley fan, with Milwall connections? Nice to meet you if so.
