Kyle Walker

SwissBlade , people talk up Vincius Jr. as one of the World's best attackers.
I watched Walker make a mug of him a few weeks ago in the CL semi-final. Swatting him aside physically and burning him for pace.

He does it in big games for England all the time. Sweeps up behind and bails us out.

Just a fantastic player.

Vinicius Jr is an extremely poor footballer who just happens to be fast. Any defender with Walker’s pace would deal with him easily (though that’s not to take away from Walker’s other abilities)

Lolololololol.

He'll win the Ballon d'Or within the next 3 years.

"Extremely poor footballer"?

Yeah, probably a bit over the top with that description. What I was trying to say is that he’s got very limited technical ability and relies quite heavily on his pace, which is why players like Kyle Walker are able to deal with him so easily.

He's so much of a Blade he fucked off at the first offer
Hated him since and don't want him anywhere near the Lane
Bet you boo Gibbs White when he plays against us next season.
Walker will likely be leaving Man City this summer. Pep recently said that while Walker is still one of the fastest players at the club, he no longer fits into their system of play and he is looking for a replacement.
He won’t be leaving, Pep says these things to get a reaction - for someone that ‘no longer fits their system’ it’s funny how Walker plays in every important game that Man City have…
If he lost all of his pace tomorrow do you still think he would win it within the next 3 years?
Yes and if Haaland lost his goalscoring ability do you think he would win the ballon d’Or in the next 3 years?

Don’t even get me started on De Bruyne, if he lost his passing ability, do you think he could win the ballon d’Or in the next 3 years?

Same goes with Messi, he’s overrated, imagine if he lost his dribbling ability at the age of 11, he’d never have won all those ballon d’Or trophies.

I still think you’re being a bit harsh. He’s not Neymar in terms of technical ability but he can play.

Which is exactly the counter argument I was expecting. It’s a pointless discussion because he does have a lot of pace.

I’m saying that if you take his pace away his technical ability isn’t enough to make up for it. When he comes up against another quick player like Walker he more often than not lacks the technical ability to get the better of them.

Though the other examples you give are true they are instances of players using superior technical abilities so they aren’t really the same. Messi is actually a good example. He isn’t able to dribble past players like he used to but he’s still good enough to have won the World Cup.

I’m saying it’s a ridiculous argument because you cant just give and take attributes away from someone.

Of course Vinicius would be a worse player if he was slow, but he isn’t.

Agreed, I wasn't trying to argue differently. My original point was that someone like Kyle Walker can deal with him because he can match him for pace and his technical ability isn't good enough to make a difference. 9 times out of 10 his pace is superior to that of his opponent so it's not normally a problem.

peps got an open cheque book thats what peps got all this adulation for him and city by the pundits and never ever a mention about the money hes had to spend on the worlds best footballers but thats the premier league and why it will always be dominated by the richest clubs
Yeah, cos piling money into a squad is always successful isn’t it? Give me that amount of money and I could probably win the Champions League…

Or do you think maybe Pep has spent a lot of money, but is also supremely talented at managing a team? 🤔

Funnily enough this is one that gets aimed at Walker all the time on Twitter by fans of other a premier League clubs, normally when trying to say he shouldn’t be playing for England. Walker is one of the few England international players that the media don’t particularly like, and you will notice commentators will really play up any mistakes he makes and just not mention if he pulls off a worldly of a pass. Will grudgingly comment on a great recovery run because it’s hard to ignore, but there is general disgruntlement that he is keeping Alexander-Arnold out by the shockingly Liverpool-biased media.

Not to be too much of a conspiracy theorist but the other two examples of this that spring to mind are Maguire, and going back a bit, Jagielka when he was playing for England. Mostly England players are totally immune to any criticism; so no one mentions Kane and Grealish are diving cheats, for example.

Agree with the first part, there’s loads of (usually bitter rival fans) people who say, ‘Walker’s only got pace’.

I don’t really see the Liverpool bias in the media, everyone slates TAA.

I do agree that Kane is a diver and often quite dirty too, but he gets away with it because he’s the golden boy.

Grealish is just a good egg in my opinion, yeah he does dive and that does annoy me, but he seems like a normal bloke who’s living the dream, always has time for fans etc…

I’ve warmed to Grealish as a Player at City, and as you say, seems a decent sort of it. At Villa though, certainly in the Championship, I couldn’t stand him, as I don’t think he ever really did enough to earn the hype or the way he would stroll around like the big superstar when he had done nothing.

Agreed. I have absolutely no idea why he was booed by us at Wembley.

I accept that I’d been a bit over the top in my description, he can obviously play.
I get where you’re coming from but as you say you were a bit over the top as Vinicius clearly is not just about pace if he was Madrid would have just gone for Olly Burke instead, much cheaper option. :)

There are plenty of clubs across the PL and Europe with similar budgets but nothing like the same level of success or discipline within their squads

Must have depended where you were. I heard cheers.

Grealish? He got pretty relentless boos from where I was sat (behind the goal). I've no idea why though, and I bet those doing it couldn't have given a cogent explanation either. Tossers.

I’d say it’s 10 times more likely that pigs sign Vardy than we sign Walker, and there’s not a cat in hells chance that pigs sign Vardy…

With five Premier League titles, four league Cups and two FA Cups and named in the PFA Team of the Year three times not to mention 75 England caps – there’s a case to be made he is England’s greatest ever defender.
John Terry has:

5x PL Titles
5x FA Cups
3x League Cups
1x Champions League
1x Europa League
75x Caps
