The work permit police might have something to say about a few of them.

Any you have seen who are available as they are out of contract?

I think you mentioned the German keeper was one. Any others given we may be frugal and do something about the infrastructure if we go up.

8. Mateo Retegui: Everyone will know about this lad in a couple of weeks He's a 23 yr old Ar gentian CF, who has ripped it up in Argentina for two seasons. He is owned by Boca Juniors but is on loan at Tigre in the Argentine first division where he has 23 goals and 3 assists in 42 appearances, with 6 goals in his last 6 games to open the 2023 season. He's very cleverly turned down the Argentinian national team and has accepted a call up from Italy. He's a complete CF, and has a whiff of Tevez about him. Technically strong, physically strong and is not afraid to mix it. Of the list he is possibly the one that is out of reach, but there's talk of Udinese being interested in him and a fee of between £15m to £20m and he may see a season in the Prem with us as a shop window/stepping stone.
🤷‍♂️

He’s spent a lengthy career entirely in Leagues 1 & 2 and has had bad injuries. A big no from me.
Thought crossed my mind that he could be the dirty bastard that we are missing from the midfield options but he's about 28 now already so I think that ship has probably sailed given the direction we're hoping for.

Personally loved the signing of Anel. Great value and is now worth loads more than what we paid. So we should ideally target these players.

Some suggestions:
1. josh Doig, LWB - attacking minded with the athleticism required for the prem. by all accounts, done good in his first season in italy for a young lad. (£10 - £12 million)
2. Santiago Hezze, CDM - the midfield shithouse we lack. Can play too at 22. Plays for Hurucan. (£8 - £10 million)
3. Gabbi Sarra, CM - quality for Norwich this season (£15 - £20 million)
4. Gustav Isaksen, RW- winger by trade, but surly add that bit of flare from the bench, if we require it. Good stats in the danish league. (£8 million - £10 million)
5. Cooper/Trafford, GK - unreal for argyle and Bolton respectively. Good to come in as number 2 (£3 - £5 million)
6. Morris, ST- Luton striker. Bit older but think he’s been unreal for Luton - proper handful (£10 million)

Means we spend around £50 to £65 million which is in keeping with the previous prem seasons.

Probs not enough to keep us up but gives us young assets to develop as a self-sustaining club (assuming we stay under current ownership model).

1. Great shout, especially if Verona go down.
2. Not heard of him & i'll have a look. He'd pass the work permit requirements.
3. Agree.
4. Lovely player & one with potential. He'll end up at Brentford due to the link between his club & them.

I'd also throw in Nino at Fluminense into the mix a great CB.

Nino is captain of Fluminense, the tactically unorthodox and scintillating team managed by Fernando Diniz. Diniz’s system is extremely narrow and vertically compact and uses rotations and high tempo, short passing to overwhelm the opposition through the thirds. But it starts with deep build-up patterns and Nino is key to this.

The 25-year old is a high volume passing centre back, capable of making thrusting runs forwards with the ball too.

As you can see from the pass map above, Nino is responsible for a huge amount of ball circulation in the low and middle thirds, but he can also use a greater passing range to open up the wide areas for Fluminense wide attackers, or when the striker runs out towards the touchline.

He’s also adept at drilling lower passes through the opposition lines and his awareness of passing opportunities is good, as it must be given Diniz’s predilection for rotations and quirky off-the-ball running.

Defensively, Nino is proactive and occasionally overruns a challenge or gets caught out of position. But he’s reasonably quick and can make decent recovery runs.

He’s also aggressive in the air and has a rugged physicality that would add some steel to any team. He has clear leadership qualities, as shown by his captaincy role, and working well under a tactically innovative coach suggests intelligence, game awareness, and versatility. In short, Nino is an excellent centre back, who has some international experience, playing in the final as Brazil won Gold at the Summer Olympics in 2020. Progressive, passing centre backs are very much in fashion, but Nino has solid defensive fundamentals as well, which make him a genuine prospect for a transfer to a stronger league in Europe.

TransferLab’s similar players function highlights Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez, Arsenal’s William Saliba, and Milan Pierre Kalulu as players who profile very similarly to Nino, while the closest match is Torino’s Perr Schurrs. These are all aggressive defenders who can pass and carry, which shows the kind of quality company that Nino could keep if he moved to Europe.

Some interesting shouts in there. By only recruiting reserve keepers, are you actually suggesting L1 Wes be first choice in goal though? Personally, I think much, much better is needed. If Henderson can't be persuaded, then someone like Sam Johnstone would be required.

What about the bloke max lowe who plays for SUFC or RND, do we really need a LWB

I'd package Lowe & Bogle and try and shift them out in the close season. Neither seem to have the necessary ability, application or consistency for what we need. We'd get £10m to £12m for them and i'd re-invest. Next season we will need to have some level of creativity at WB, and we need to bring it 2 players that can provide this.

I'd have RND as a back up for both the LWB and LCB positions. He may make either his own.

Might be wiser to hold onto Bogle and new contract him for if we go down again

I won't believe that the injury has fucked him, because he already showed a good level in his first 2 months back

Should also new contract McBurnie

Norwood may depend on if we sign Doyle

Would sell Sander and bring in someone more suitable because he'll only leave on a free, and we'd be throwing away 10m+ just to keep someone whose contribution would probably be below that of a number of players we could bring in

My wish list

(1) gyokeres 10 million
(2) obrien 5/10 million
(3) Doyle permanent
(4) players 2 and 3 from above
(5) a rwb and lwb
(6) Harry on loan
(7) Kyle walker
(8) new keeper
(9) macatee on loan

Yes I know 11 players but we can't afford to offer new contracts to some running out this year
But basically try and buy good quality young players
I think wilder just lost the plot last time

I'd add that I think Coventry have quoted £20m for Gyokeres.

They are strapped for cash, friend of mine is ITK as he used to play for them many years ago ,he reckons 10 m in one go will get it over the line if its installments you are probably not far off

Gyokeres would actually prove to be worth 20m, IMO. Certainly 15m

Him and Ndiaye up top would give us a formidable forward line and a serious chance even if the rest of the team was below standard. Real handful for any defence

If Derby don’t go up from league one and he can be had for around the 5 million pound mark I’d happily take Cashin he’s a good age and one of the top players in league one this year. I think it’s only a matter of time before a prem team takes a punt on him so it may as well be us this summer.

I think Chair and maybe Willock are well worth a look at QPR - especially if they go down and bargains can be had. Hoever at Stoke, the RWB, looks a good one. Obviously Gyokeres at Coventry for the right money.

I'd probably take O'Brien if we can fleece the scabs who could be in a world of of trouble and needing to offload if they go down.I also like the look of Pickering LWB and Hyam (centre back) at Blackburn.

For the rest a few loans and foreign signings.

I thought the Blackburn CBs looked decent. Hayden Carter might be the more likely target, being younger

Lewis Travis in midfield is also a good player who gets through a lot of work. Could see us going for him as a 'good one to go down with'..... would also have obvious longevity potential here

Sam Field at QPR could be put in a similar bracket

Watching Stuttgart game now.... they have a bunch of players who could be of interest

what about Che Adams?
also Wallace the LB for Millwall was their POY so may be worth a punt
Would take Che or Adam Armstrong from them. Maybe Stuart Armstrong too

Wallace ticks a lot of boxes because he's learned his trade in a solid team over many years at CB and LB in a back 3 and a back 4

Assuming we get over the line.

I’d be expecting us to spend a bit but not as much as we have previously. I’d expect we might sign 5 and renew some contracts

It might be abit ambitious given what we know about the finances I’d be very happy with some business along the lines of

Loan a decent left back e.g Maatsen
Get a mcatee or diallo on loan
Sign o’brien from forest
See if we can get Doyle back.
Gyokeres would be ideal too.

Wes
Baldock, anel, Egan, rnd, e.g Maatsen
Doyle berge mcatee
Ndaiye Gyokeres

Looks a decent first 11 to me and one significantly better than the last Pl side.

Still room on bench for McBurnie, Norwood, Brewster, bogle, Robinson, o’brien etc. has the makings of decent squad

If I was really pushing the boat out. Someone like hendo or same Johnson could be decent option if we want to try and upgrade wes (don’t see this as 1st priority though). And another centreback / LCB would be useful. Use another foreign loan for some attacking flair
