Surely we wasn’t 8 points clear with a game in hand going into the last 7 were we. I know we fucked it up but surely this would be a worse fuck up.

Plus our striker got sent to prison & second best player pulled his hamstring 🤣🤣
With 7 games to go in 2011-12 we were in 2nd on 76 points (exactly as we are now), but Wednesday were 3rd on 74.

In our remaining 7 games we won 4 drew 2 and lost 1, to finish on 90. Unfortunately Wednesday won 6 and drew 1 of their last 7 to finish on 93.

The real collapse was in the last 3 games, post Evans. Going into those we were 4 points clear of Wednesday having won all our last 4 whilst they'd won 3 and drawn 1. We then drew 2 and lost 1 and then won all 3.

So if we repeat 2011-12 and win our next 4 , we'll be on 88 and promoted, given Luton can only get a maximum of 86.

2011-12 wasn't really a collapse. It was a season where 3 teams got way more points than the others and what would have been easily enough to get promotion any other season wasn't. That 90 points remains the joint record number of points anyone has got without being automatically promoted.

Haha late 30s. Just injecting some positivity! We've historically seemed to find joy from being glum and predicting the worse - 'typical United' no more for me!

We're winning the next 7.
I’m over double your age, and have witnessed that the Blades have an innate ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. That said, this would be a massive cock up if we fail. Oops haven’t our neighbours taken that the mantle for that one? Keep the faith. UTB ⚔️⚔️

Another point on 2011-12. It's the joint 3rd best number of points we got in any season. Only 81-2 and 16,-17 beat it,with 05-06 equalled it. We've finished 2nd on fewer points in 46 game seasons 3times, 88-9, 89-90 and 18-19.

I posted in this thread back in January we needed 85 and I still stand by that. 5 points with a game in hand is a great position but the it's done attitude simply isn't true.

Win next game surely promotion is sealed in the pipeline.

I reckon given Luton's form, we might need an additional win. Beat Bristol City and it's 8 points. Could potentially see Luton getting 9 plus from their remaining fixtures.

Win Tuesday and win against one of: West Brom and Preston and it's in the bag.

We will need to get max points needed to hold off Luton imo

Luton vs Boro game ont 24th is critical. Boro coukd do us a favour and send us up.

just imagine, no fighting for play-off tickets and trips o Wembley. Extended season watching oy poloy feytin it out and getting ripped off at Wembley 🤞 🤣

Just beat Bristol City then sit back and hope both (especially Luton) drop points in their next couple of fixtures. That happens and we are just about home and hosed.

There you have it! 10 wins later and the Blades sit in 2nd on 82pts and 8pts clear with only 4 games left to play.
The proverbial fat lady is clearing her throat!
It’s been a road of ups and downs (mainly ups) and I couldn’t have done it without the continued support of Blade56 who’s been with me every step of the way!

Seriously though… only time will tell if 82pts (plus any more draws) is good enough.
It wasn’t a bad shout though was it fellow Blades. Good times! 😁

That 2011-12 season is gonna get beat for 3rd place and points. Gonna be in the 90s for sure. Unless one doesn't win more than 1 more match.

Notts county could beat it

I was among those saying that 82 would be enough. It might still turn out to be true, but I wouldn't bet on it now given Luton's form.

There’s two ways of looking at it for Luton & Boro. You go in to the playoffs with momentum usually helps so would want to keep winning. Usually 3rd place wins the play offs if you’re superstitious (obviously not last season though). Don’t want either team to feel like they’ve got the upper hand should you meet them again in the playoffs.

In my opinion when they play each other they’ll both be going for the win & not resting players.

I’d expect them to win tonight & draw Monday. Blackburn away is a tough game for Luton too

I know we're all blades, etc, but anyone still doubting is mad! Forget us - Luton have to win 3/4. This alone is improbable, let alone when you also consider just 1/4 for us means 4/4 for them.

And now you're gonna believe us...
