So it wasn't because he was a money grabbing twat then?
There was nowt wrong with Neil! He's done his absolute best at every club who has employed him. All this if he was a true Blade he would have been unemployed & neglected his family is absolutely crap! What morons some of our fans are obviously their family & wife's wishes are ignored! Vile people

Nope if you've watched it.

He could have signed for Ipswich before the Blades for alot more money. Warnock wasn't keen on him so he went to Huddersfield. If he wasn't bothered or was lying I highly doubt he'd come on and talk to YorkBlade when MS isn't even on social media.

Nothing to lose 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for sharing this. I enjoyed talking to Martin.

Take a shot everytime he says "as I say".

I edited the audio for podcast listeners too. That's wherever you get your podcasts just search 'Sheff United Way'.

I should probably point out, I don't choose the titles for these interviews!

Some 23 years ago we played Newcastle away in a cup game. Directly behind where I sat was Keith Edwards on his radio Sheffield duties, I think the stadium was still being redeveloped. Keith was brilliant speaking to all the fans who approached him, but particularly me because I was so close. He asked me for any predictions, and I said that I really liked Martin Smith and thought he would score. Not a chance, said Keith, he is a one trick pony. Anyway, he scored a cracking equaliser, and I turned and smiled at Keith, who smiled back shaking his head and then rolled his eyes skywards. Lovely moment, but think we ended up being hammered 4-1.

Sore head this morning perchance Laney Blade

I remember my late Grandma who was a bit of a fake Huddersfield fan absolutely loving the fact that they took our top scorer. I wasn't really bothered in United that much back then after we'd sold all our players and were left with absolute shite. If it wasn't for Warnock, that team would've sunk like a stone.

Became a bit of a legend at Huddersfield. His record for us was great, but Marcus Bent was the better player back then. He obviously left for the money. The Huddersfield chairman gave Steve Bruce millions to spend, which he learnt to regret. We were in deep financial shite, and Huddersfield were top of the table until they sold Marcus Stewart in Feb. So fully understand him leaving.

Seems like he's re-writing the truth a bit there. I knew someone at the time who was very close to him and was told he left for much better money.

That’s exactly what he said he did isn’t it? As we’d signed him on buttons. And the manager kept subbing him off after an hour (paraphrased). I don’t understand why some people get so bitter when a player leaves. (Not calling you bitter but he obviously upset a few)

Thought he was a really good player - we might have been much better if we had kept him . Warnock was a funny bugger at times. I think I may have chinned him.

I have no idea, I haven't watched the video - just replying to the terrible attention grabbing headline of it 🙃

I personally couldn't care less. If a player leaves for more money then so be it, it's a short career afterall.

He was ok and the best of our forwards at the time, but being honest, I only ever thought he was a bit above fairly average. He seemed to hit a bit of a purple patch when he came to us for that season or so and scored most chances that came his way, but we were generally really crap as a team for a lot of the time he was here. I remember us losing away at Crewe one Saturday afternoon when Smith played for us and that wasn't an exceptional result. He was pretty bang average I thought. He did ok for a short while after he moved but didn't pull up any trees. Another one that I've generally forgotten about a long time ago. Wish him well though and didn't have any issue with him moving on.

Normally agree with your points Weasel, but I thought Smith was really good in his short spell with us. Maybe it was just a purple patch but he did well for us and considering he signed on a free he was a good signing and I was disappointed when he left. If it's true Warnock didn't really fancy him that's a shame as Smith and Bent were a decent partnership at the time fed by Paul Devlin who was one of the best wingers in the league.

Do you remember an incident?
Like, a hazy, post pub, late night encounter, where you may have assaulted Neil?
Keep it quiet.
