Did we boycott Praise or Grumble?

Social media is all very well but you can’t listen to Twitter while you’re driving home from the match.
I’d rather listen to people talking crap about Sheffield United on Radio Sheffield than be forced to hear people talking crap about Manchester United on Radio 5 Live or Talksport.
Who is going to provide the commentaries if local radio dies a death?
Who is going to get post-match interviews, so you can hear the manager’s thoughts from the horses mouth?
I even find the phone-ins quite entertaining in a pantomime “shouting at the radio” type of way, although “Brian the Blade” and his ilk should be blacklisted.

Agreed. However shite it is, praise of grumble remains essential listening fo us on the way home from the match. I spend most of it shouting "get this chimp off", but just like the X-Factor I like it, even if I shouldn't.

I would hazard a guess that fan sites such as this could take on a lot of the roles performed (or not) by local radio and papers. We already get better reports, analysis, photos and videos (when allowed!) on here and it's not much of a stretch to see the services extending into more multi-media and being able to access this from anywhere, including cars. What will be interesting is the relationship between access to the club and the freedom to comment, question and criticise.

Fair enough, give me the option of Linz/Foxy telling me the news while I'm driving and I'll take it.
That might be a fair way off yet though, so can you leave me with Radio Sheffield in the meantime?

Everyone is different. I personally have managed not to listen to RS at all for the past 18 months. If I was going home in the car after the match, I think it would have to be a few CD's of my choice. I'd check the scores out when I got home. Until RS changes dramatically, as far as I am concerned, when I am not at the match through work etc, I will follow the Blades through the internet or Sky Sports News.

Sky will have a radio station before too long.

I think you perhaps over egg the role that a fans forum plays in the wider scheme of things. How many listeners do you think Radio Sheffield gets? P & G in particular? Now if there are 100 people on this website at the same time then thats quite a big number in forum terms (I would guess).

I don't doubt that P & G is absolute shite of the highest order but saying it isn't a big stretch to see these services extending to multi media platforms is a gargantuan leap. Also it is important to note that Radio Sheffield and P & G were excellent broadcasters of local football news earlier on in their cycle. Wouldn't it be the ultimate case of the lunatics taking over the asylum if an internet forum took over the airwaves. The great thing about these places are they are a vent to let off whatever shit you fancy. Start making them serious places where you become a public service and the goalposts move massively.

P & G should reduce frequency to once a week during the week and/or match days. There isn't enough happening to warrant any more. That is why it is shit, not because of Seth, Paul or Billybob who manages some 12 year olds in the Meadowhall league thinking he is the next Clough. Brian the Blade gets on every night because he is the one man sat there waiting to get on the phone. If there were fewer opportunities there would be more callers and the shit would get washed down the pecking order.

As for SUFC, do you honestly think they would let the sort of thing said on here go anywhere near the club? This place would be banished from BDTBL within minutes unless made mundane enough to be Super Blades mouthpiece.

heh.. Brian the Blade is a total set up as is Pitsmoor Owl..
you simply can't get on the program if you simply ring up on spec. every week

Nope, it's more to do with a long-term trend towards localism in media enabled by the pervasive internet (and it's stated government policy for what it's worth). Some "fan" sites have the chance to morph into something more akin to journalism and this site has made some steps along that road.

I agree that the goalposts would move massively, hence my last paragraph.

Only time I listen is if I've been listening to an away game on there and have forgotten to switch off at full-time. Fair play to those who are able to listen to it every night. I don't think I could handle listening to Mark the Pitsmoor Spaz and Brian the Blade who reckons every manager we have ever had is awful.

The main reason I switched off is because the journalism is so amateurish it is untrue. Not sure if any one caught the Football League Show on Saturday (Another shower made by the BBC I might add) but Paul Walker was doing the commentary over our game and not only did he get KMac and Hill mixed up:confused: but he also said it was our first win of the seasono_O. For someone who follows our team and gets behind the scenes more than most fans surely he should be getting that right. Also the constant jizz fest Rob Staton has when he's talking to a pig on there gets reyt on my tits. Only one of em I haven't blocked on Twitter is Walker and that's only cause he is a Blade.

Ive heard Walker is a pig

I stopped listening to Football Heaven over a year ago fed up of hearing the same old idiots spouting the same old crap. I think they even ring Brian the Blade and his ilk up to come on the show its that poor.
I do listen to the commentary of our away games it is pretty decent coverage, but P & G and FH are very poor programmes

Ive heard Walker is a pig

Funny you should say that.

I listened to P or G the other night when Brian the Blade claimed Wilson was the worst managar we have had. Walker said "I don't support the Blades" (or something very similar) and later on said, "We're all Wednesday aren't we?"

I think the latter was tongue in cheek but the former statement sounded from the heart

Final Straw - Blackwell being 'Expert Summariser' at Colchester - Brian the Blade would have talked more sense and he's an absolute TW*T

I heard that too Walker stated he was definitely no Blade, something which I think Brian the Blade knows only too well being a wind up merchant. The sack Wilson call was just a wind up surely and Walker fell for it and got a bit irritated shall we say.

Paul Walker is a Blade. Whether his radio persona differs I couldn't say as I don't wish to listen to all that guff.

But he is.

I'm sure he has admitted to thiswhen he was on Radio Hallam in his pre Radio Pig days.

I'm wondering if he isn't any more.

I understand he got a real huff on in the Warnock days because Uncle Neil made a twat of him a time or two and the stuff I've heard attributed to him that he's spread off-the-air borders on malicious shit-stirring.

He probably was once a Blade, but has fallen out with the club.

Chucked, teddy, pram?

God job we aren't all the same....

I listened on Saturday, driving home from the match. A Blades fan called in asking Staton if he had heard the rumours of Larnell Cole joining united from Man U. Staton didn't have a clue who he was talking about and responded with a dismissive; who? Never heard of him? Can you spell it out for me?

Some on here might not have heard of him, but a journalist ought to be aware of the football talent - Man U Young Player of the Year and a player who played in the second leg of the FA Youth Cup final against United, coming off the bench to score the winner. You don't even have to know much background, but at least the name and not be so dismissive of the caller.

I tweeted in some background on Cole, which I understand was read out, but I was home and had turned off by then.

His neanderthal act on the breakfast show really annoys me, I hope it's his "shtick", if he really thinks and behaves like that he is a grade A twonk (to say the least) and should be sacked.

For those wondering about Walker I read he was a Blade in one of the old programmes when he first started out at RS I think.

I suppose if your job is to be completely impartial it could be possible to lose the affiliation or have the same feeling as we have for the club.

I'd have to have some sympathy if he was "twatted" by Warnock. That can't have been pleasant. Might make me think twice about the team.

If I ever had to have daily conversations with pricks like Brian the Blade and the other tossers that call in then believe me I would probably come to hate us and other local teams more as well.

I have got to the point where I can't listen to it apart from the away matches or driving home on a Sat night.

They should have a programme on Friday nights, as a preview and then straight after the matches for an hour only. And that's it!!!!!

As to the opening post I don't think it's a boycott just giving up listening cos its shite

I'm sure he has admitted to thiswhen he was on Radio Hallam in his pre Radio Pig days.

He was openly announced as a Blade when employed as a tea boy and excruciatingly unfunny stuntman on the breakfast show. It's typical of this clown's unmitigated arrogance and manifest stupidity that he:

a) Think's nobody remembers;
b) Regards himself and his fellow hacks as so authoritative and prominent that it actually matters which team they support and that listeners should not know.

It's the sort of juvenile, amateur stuff that makes local radio presenters legends in their own postcode. Walker's risible self-importance is in direct inverse proportion to his ability. A true Pygmy amongst midgets.

The Football Heaven numpties are quite welcome to read this out if they want. It might make the show remotely interesting for once. They can sandwich it between the 15 minute interview with the Pigs' office cat and the 53rd version this year of "Which flat-snouted nonentity of the last millennium would you like to see back at the Piggery?"

I gave up on this nightly insult to the intelligence a long time ago. If memory serves, it was around the time I stopped buying our equally embarrassing local paper.

After listening to tonight's offering Blades fans need to Boycott Football Heaven. I think it was Rob Staton on the show tonight who got a very good call from a Unitedite about the Nigerian investment, and the McCabe's friendship with Dave Kitson and how much wages we would be paying for a striker who was not really needed and possibly not wanted by Danny Wilson, to which Rob swiftly moved on to the next caller.
The next caller another Blade asked him why McCabe was not pressed much harder for answers in the recent interview on RS and virtually told them they were crap at their jobs.

Guess what he was cut off after being told he was not allowed to criticise the presenters on RS. Then he gives that gormless tw@t Brian the Blade 10mins airtime to sing the praises of Kevin McCabe, not much point to the phone in at all if we can't have a balanced set of viewpoints from both sides but have to listen to a pratt like Brian the Blade who don't know is arse from his elbow, jesus on Saturday he phoned in to say sack Wilson FFS ........... RS = wankers

The only bit this evening I heard was on the way home from work, when the airwaves were hotting up with discussion between Owlstalk's Radio Sheffield's impartial Mr Staton and James Shield on Alan Knill and the squirrel.

I had of course already read all about it, but knowing their thoughts on the matter will indeed allow me to sleep easier this evening :)

I am ashamed. In post 87 above I have used an apostrophe inappropriately and unnecessarily [Think's]. Even worse, I disgracefully failed to notice my error before editing privileges expired.

I particularly apologise to TAMUS, Fiery Blade and Large Mendonca who all wasted 'likes' on me and are now shamed by association. Please feel free to "unlike" yourselves, gentlemen.

Foxy, please suspend me for 14 days. Come to think of it, I have a better idea: I hereby apply for the vacant position of Scapegoat.
