... we can play better than last night and Boro can play worse?
We might be wanting to panic at some point but not yet, and don't throw the look at our fixtures card.
If we fluff it it's our fault, so lets not.
Let's be fair here Boro deserved the win no doubt about it.
I do think the way we played last night made Boro's performance look more impressive than it was, but I take nothing away from them either.
Yes Hecky is right goals change games and before they got their 1st we could have conceivably been 2 or maybe even 3-0 up with the chances.
After the 1st half I felt it was fairly even but we were surrendering possession far too cheaply and we needed to get a grip on that.
This is what was feeding Boro 1st half. Us giving up possession either under pressure or actually not under pressure and often the locations on the pitch that we did so.
2nd half Boro were the better team but they got a great and fortuitous start with Norwoods tackle more or less inch perfect for Archer to smash in.
After this I felt we tried to force the issue and Boro were slowing the game down, whilst also trying to catch on the break which they did to good effect.
The problems from the first half again was that we were giving away possession too cheaply.
At the time I felt the ref made a big mistake for their 3rd goal but watching it back, McAtee passes to Jebbison who then tries another pass and we lose it. Yeah I reckon some refs would have pulled that back but technically he let us play on for a few seconds then that was that.
The 3rd goal knocked the proverbial stuffing out of us, we did a bit of huffing, Jebbo could have scored a few times but that was about it. You could see the players looked a bit dejected and Boro looked elated. It's what happens sometimes.
For me it's not a night to forget, if I were the management and players it's a night to respond too. We need good performance and win ideally come Sat.
There were many areas not just giving up possession that need reactions too, too often the decision making going forward was just a bit to pot. Taking too many touches on edge of their area, trying to beat one man too many when a delivery would have been better and the midfield too easily got stretched and that again was large part down to needlessly losing the ball.
We shouldn't panic, or be too downbeat. Let be clear here that's our first defeat since November or in 10 games.
We need to take each game as it comes as it is still entirely in our hands, it doesn't matter what Boro do to a large extent and who knows Luton aren't out of the equation either if Boro are now in it.
Last night is one of those games that might be a bit of a character defining one.
It might galvanize us or it could give us a bit of a wobble short or longer term.
