So would I, but in reality if we played like that every week it would be the other end of the table that would be concerning us.

This season is about finding a stike partership, (and a right winger, if that's the best we've got). Cofie looks just like he is - a 19 year old learning his game. To make a real impact at that age, you need to be exceptional in some areas. I don't think he is.

Positives - Quinn, Blackman (lots to learn and wasn't very effective but looks like he will be), Howard. Not many others came away with much credit today.

Always enjoy a win, however we play. We will need to play better if we are going to do anything this season though. Blackman & Howard looked decent. Bit disappointed with Cofie and Macca. After a good, positive & pacey start we kept giving the ball away. Good attendance - more than I expected.

Agreed small, second half a better team would have been out of sight.
Last ten minutes they could, ney should have got 3. Better teams will batter our defence. Even Rotherham looked too good for our defenders apart from poor finishing.
Saying that, shroesbury as G Sinclair calls em were'nt going to give us 3 points for nowt.

Blackman was superb and if we got free kicks every time he was fouled the scoreline might have been different, Quinny put himself about but was mostly trying to make up for the rest of midfield/defence who were seemingly still on holiday. Shrewsbury probably deserved a point, looked organised and were happy to defend the 18 knowing that we had no quality to attack directly and it'll need a great header from where we'd deliver. Their tallish skinny black lad looked alright, they all just lacked some composure in front of goal.

Clear chance fair enough, but they had lots of blocked efforts that were too close for comfort and poorly finished others. I think your'e in a majority of 1?

But defenders are supposed to block efforts. Shrewsbury created one chance in our box in the second half from what I can remember which to me means the defence did ok.
The 1st half thou I thought Shrewsbury deserved a goal and I thought Collins in particular was poor that half. Doyle and KMac didn't help matters by keeping giving the ball to the opposition.

Mate we were woeful today. For a neutral watching that game you would have had the Blades as the newly promoted team that had never ever been in the Championship. I seriously can't remember a performance from last season (that I saw) that was that bad.

We had a brand new team out there that at times played some good stuff but at others passed poorly and didn't hold the ball up. We had a better team last season probably on three times the wages that this team is on(maybe more)...we can't expect miracles

Thought we were disappointing really, I've no idea what Cofie did all game. I thought McAllister was generally poor. I don't know, it's only one game, we've kept a clean sheet and we've won so can't complain about the result, but we have to improve a lot if we're to take on some of the better teams.

Will be interesting to see how we do at Coventry, I think a draw.

It was good just to grab those 3 points ridiculous first day scores.
Liverpool losing 3-0 not to mention the 5-0s by Fulham and Swansea.

About right.

We'll probably have a very patchy start owing to the 'new' team. By October/November we'll know a lot more - about the new faces and DW...

I saw, but I had Coventry down as a mid-table team this season with us near the top. it's only one game, but I saw enough to have concerns about a top 2 finish (or even top 6!). Just hope that they are ironed out soon.

Just out of curiosity, and without wishing to take this off-topic; could Coventry become a permanent lower league club? No ground, high debt, and a landlord who is now taking them to court for owing rent, attendances getting near L1 levels and with the new rules on wages/turnover, that could seriously hinder their chances of ever getting back up.

Those who are pessimistic think we'll be relegated again, the optimistic think we'll be champions.....in the end it's the first game of season, we had moments of good play that showed potential, we had bad moments which showed problems needing addressing. Lets judge them after 10 games.

He's lightweight and gets bundled off the ball easily. He was disinterested most of the time and was so unfocussed a couple of times that he didn't realise that the ball was coming his way. Get rid now and stick with Porter and Miller (and Cresswell if he's staying) for the second striker. Blackman will (hopefully) come good. I guess you weren`t at the home games v Exeter, Oldham and Carlisle then?

With regards to yesterdays performance, I thought we looked a bit rusty thats all and we shouldn`t be reaching for the razor blades just yet. As a previous post has stated, we`ve got a lot of new players so lets be patient with em eh? Admittedly, we were under the cosh for a lot of the game but I thought we defended well when we had to. Howard and Harry Mags were excellent for me btw.

Me and my mate went to look for our midfield at half time as, Quinny apart, we couldn`t see them on the pitch!! Unfortunately, our ginger maestro continued to play on his own in the second half too. Although it was good to see McAllister score a lovely goal, he didn`t seem to kick on from there. As for Macca and Doyle, lets hope this was just a bad day at the office.

Up front, Cofie and Blackman suffered because of the poor midfield performance as they did not get much service from them and hence, didn`t work together and show us what they can do. To suggest that Cofie should be packed back off to ManU already is quite frankly, fuckin ludicrous. Give the lad a chance FFS.

All in all, we were fortunate to win but we`ve played better and come away with nowt. 100% record so far, roll on Tuesday night.

I went to all three and over each of the 90 minutes we played better than we played yesterday.

I'm not reaching for the razor blades because I know it was only the first game, but yesterday was awful.

Please reread my post. I explained why I think he should go back. He is too lightweight for League 1 football and won't be a regular in the team. Just because he's signed for Man U doesn't automatically make him a good player. In my opinion playing him is ludicrous. Let's build up a fixed front line of our own players.
