Typical Bergen Blade. Even has thought through the squad numbers. :)

I'm just amazed that football forums across the world don't already have posts like

Hey, have you heard, there's this Norwegian guy who's come up with a system that perfectly maintains the link between numbers and positions!? It's brilliant, yet so simple! Apparantly the FA are looking into it and will be making it compulsory from next season! Years of chaos are finally over!

I read an article once about squad numbers. Can't remember where but, We always associate #2 with RB. South American's for example have RB's as #3.

I'll try and dig it out

Originally it was like this:

Bees I may be being harsh on, but I never rated Brian Owen Gary Gayle.

I was very much a Tuttle and Wirmola fan boy mind.

Best defensive pairing we've had! Put Roger Nilsen at Leftback, Bradders at Right back and Kelly in Goal and they'd stop Spain even if they had Chris Hoy, Wiggins and Ennis up front ... At least thats how I remember it

You'll never beat Paul Beesley, he was the best I have seen until the back pass law changed then it went all a bit wrong!

Was it then that he became known as "Spoon Boots"

Yes, what a fab defence that was. Those were the halcyon days when we failed to win between Aug 93 and Jan 94 and scored 3 goals (1 a penalty and one an own goal - Glynn Hodges managed the other one) between 2nd October and 1st Jan

:-)

Darren statistics, statistics, statistics you can use them to twist your argument anyway you want... But I know better :)

These were the defenders, so quite what your goals scored stat is about, I don't know. So what if we failed to win, the defence did their job...

Don't start arguing with me about stats :-)

The defence conceded 16 goals in 13 games....

Err... ok, ... in the PL conceding an average of just over one goal a game isn't that bad.

Actually, 10 of those goals were shipped in 3 games v Newcastle, Man Utd and Arsenal. In 10 games v Blackburn, Wednesday, Coventry, Norwich, Villa, Chelsea (when they were crap), Swindon, Everton, Wimbledon (when they were good) and Liverpool, only 6 goals were conceded and there were 6 clean sheets.

The defence was probably a better than average PL one, it's just that our forwards (Littlejohn, Flo, Cork and Andy Scott) were shit.

You win this time.....

Kin hell don't know why that pic came out so big

Ah but that was a proper programme Metal - not like the glossy shit that they charge a second mortgage for nowadays, which is all full of adverts for stuff no one wants

The only bit I used to read in the programme was the old match reports from years ago done by Nick Udall who has also had a few books on United published. Stopped buying them got too many now our lass says.

Yes, and unfortunately we managed only a 0-0 draw in 5 of the games in which we kept a clean sheet (Everton, Swindon, Liverpool, Blackburn, Coventry). The only game we won was 1-0 v Chelsea with the own goal.

The only one of the 5 0-0s we looked like scoring in was the Liverpool game on Boxing Day, where Bruce Grobbelaar, of all people, was brilliant for them and denied us 3 points.

As you say, the forwards were hopeless.

Moral of the story: selling your best player is a bad idea. United have never learned this lesson.

drew 0-0 lost 1-3 at Blackpool on the day before (15th /16th April) we finished 10th in Div One.

i must have misunderstood the thread.. apologies.. i didn't realise that we were on about 50's lineups
