They started off great, but then nose-dived into mediocrity. Not after leaving us, but whilst with us.

The player that you thought was the new saviour, only for them to be released out the back door later.

  • Jon Harley - Loan hero to average fullback
  • Owen Morrison - Skilful winger on debut, released at the end of the season.
  • Katchouro - Player of the year to missing sitter after sitter.
  • John Cofie - Decent start, no idea where he is now?

Sheffield United 1980-81. Won the first 3........relegated to Division 4 on the final day of the season.

The Moose, all the talent in the world squandered by the love of a kebab. A cautionary tale for us all, I'm sure you'll agree.

Brayford should be top of the list, surely?

Bayford, Mousse, Higdon, Monty...

Remember seeing Higdon's debut and thinking yeh, he looks decent, could be a good signing, think he scored too.
Little did I know that his debut was the best performance he would ever have for us.

Our fans used to joke they had been a body swap and he had a twin brother playing for us instead.
That would explain his incredible down turn in form, after a few games he looked so poor, unfit and out of his depth at league 1 level.

Wasn't that the 1-2 loss to Brizzle City at the Lane where their front man and goalscorer Wilbrahm had been signed by their manager because he was in the same bar on holiday and was out of contract, yet Higdon scores for us and we think he's the shit and just turns out to be ... um ... shit?

Yes. Yes it was.

pommpey

Florent Cuvelier had a great highlights showreel but 'lost his way' in S2.

Willie Falconer scored on his debut and that was about it.

I thought Scougall would be a real star but he wasn't.

Having seen Olsen for Everton, I was excited and optimistic.

Oh so many to choose from ffs

David Cotterill.

Fucking phenomenal when on loan; considerably less so when signed.

EEL, for a youngster, looked a solid enough defender and had a goal in him. Hoped we could get him permanently at the time, but we upgraded and he never really kicked on.

Phil Starbuck, reasonably good on loan, reasonable bad when he signed. But did introduce us all to “Christian Blades”,
yep,honestly he did

Leon Clarke.

Great until we gave him a new contract, then became more focussed on spending all that extra money rather than scoring goals.

Bit harsh on Leon.
Think it was age more than anything that caught up with him.
Plus he will always be remembered for his man of the match performance at Hillsborough.

Trying to think of the name of a young striker back in the late 80's, came in and scored 2 on his debut, looked absolutely brilliant....did sweet FA afterwards.

Edit: Got it, Tony Daws. Scored both goals in a 2-0 away win at Blackburn, then if memory serves me right, scored in the following home game...

Went on to have a decent record at Scunny.

He didn't score in the following home game, he missed a sitter v Brighton and we never saw him again. Went to scunthorpe and became a legend. Then ended up playing for Middlewood

This might be my poor memory, but seem to remember being really impressed with the pace and athleticism of John Pemberton, and less so as time wore on.

His record for Scunny is around 1 in 3, thought it was better than that.
