Basham or even Bogle could have worked for me.
Maybe but if Hecky had played a RWB or RCB at LCM, or even RCM and we’d have conceded again, he’d be getting called an idiot this morning. An obvious problem doesn’t always have an obvious solution. He did what he thought was best, in terms of getting a result, which, as you say, was the most important thing.

..and if he keeps doing what he thinks best he is doing his job. If he keeps collecting points at the current rate he is doing his job bloody well !

I think many don't understand the work that is out in off the ball. They rain it a lot. So midfielders do the defensive side. I doubt Bogle or Basham are trained on it.

When I was growing up in the '40s and '50s (before substitutes were allowed) the term 'utility player' was common. It referred to someone who could play in a variety of positions, if required. Not necessarily a brilliant player, but someone who was hardworking and reliable.

Nowadays one doesn't hear the term. Could this be because, with so many subs available off the bench, the 'utility player' is no longer needed?

Ben Osborn is playing above his level because utility players are still needed.

I honestly think he could probably play in goal as well if he wasn’t about as tall as my Nannan.
