Do people think anyone will come in for him?

Do people think he will in DW plans if no-one comes in for him?

and if NOT.. Might it be better to pay him off and release him?
Especially before the FFP comes in.

Clubs will come in for him and we should be looking offload at a minimal price, or if need be, free. He has no place in our side under DW.
I'd love to see him at Wednesday :D

No, No and Yes

They only way we'll be getting rid of monty is if we cover some of his wages if he goes to another club, otherwise he will be here til his contract runs out.

You must be really bored to have come up with that one!
He has been a good servant at the club just let the lad leave with some dignity.
By the way how long was your professional footballing career?

UTB

Agree with all that until the very last sentence. Hell no!

Can i ask were in my post i have slated the lad?
Im interested i knowing what peoples thoughts are on the possible outcomes.
Its an quite important subject for many reasons. The main one being that we HAVE to cut our wages, and i reckon Monty is on a nice wedge. He clearly is not in DW plans so the clubs must be exploring ways to get him of the wage bill. Im also sure that Monty wont like another season stuck in the stiffs.

Dignity and the fact i havent played professional football do not come into it. Maybe we should all keep our mouths shut about our club as we are not professional footballers?

So, we all have to have had a football career before we can comment on United players. Or can we comment on other teams players with impunity?
Montgomery fills plenty of column inches on United forums....and rightly so.
Wilson will want to get away from the systems which over the years have had United yo yoing over three divisions and Montgomery alas has been part of that, but not sometimes and increasingly in a good way.
Let him have dignity of course but no player should be immune from critisism.

Or we pay the last year of his contract off with a lump sum.

Say for the sake of argument he is on £500K a year and he is willing to sign for club X who can only pay him £250K a year. He would then probably take a lump sum of £150K-£175K to cover the remainder of his contract

Has there ever been another player in the history of football that's been with a club for 12 years but is hated by so many of the fans?

'Hate' is a strong word. In over 60 years of watching football there have been very few players that I despised - you could probably count them on one hand. I certainly don't hate Monty. He's never given less than 100% for the club.

Maybe you need to look at yourself, and your own standards.

I appreciate hia effortand dedication. He is just the worst pro footballer on Earth.

Don't be ridiculous. Do you expect to be taken seriously with statements like that?

There are worse, admittedly. I wouldn't want them in my team any more than I do Montgomery. He is certainly amongst the poorer players to wear a SUFC shirt (and I've seen some bad ones). His level of ability is an embarrassment. His entertainment value lies in comedy only.

Hes played in the Premier League allegedly the best league in the world, most United managers have picked him that says a lot I know he hasnt been great this last 2/3 seasons but has always given 100% and made himself available for selection when obviously injured. It is time he seeked a new challenge but I have seen far, far worse players wear a Blades shirt

Fair do's on the player bit! but for too long Monty has been an easy target for any old moaner on this site!. Agreed he has never been the most gifted player but the slagging he receives from some fans is not justified. Players not as good or dedicated have legend status amongst supporters, what a fickle bunch.
UTB!

He is allegedly A midfielder. Yet he can't shoot, cross or pass. So yes I do expect to be taken seriously. Worst player I have ever paid money to watch.

Do people think anyone will come in for him? Hopefully, and if we can get any type of a fee it would be a bonus. He never had anything apart from the ability to run around a lot, now his legs have gone he can't even manage that anymore so fingers crossed he'll be wanted by someone or other.

Do people think he will in DW plans if no-one comes in for him? To be honest that's been one of the big plus points in Wilsons favour for me. He seems to want a bit more than a combative (Doyle/Monty) midfield pairing and he has tried to get us playing a bit more passing and possession football. To that end Monty has to be the one to make way, and Wilson does seem to have finally moved on from seeing him as the first name on the team sheet.

Especially before the FFP comes in. Yes, he'll be on a bloody good salary and all things being equal he should be no more than a make weight next season so get rid, rather than pay him a small fortune to sit on the bench when we could use that cash to add some creativity.

I think the best thing we could do is transfer list him, he'll most likely not get another club to pay him what we're paying him, so we'll need to pay the difference in wages for the next year in order to get him off our books.

Monty is an easy target for any half-decent opposition midfielder. Literally hundreds, most of them nothing special, have left him chasing shadows, week-in, week-out. He's the best paid training cone in history. The time is long overdue for him to be a burden on some other club and a bizarre mix of despair and hilarity for a different set of supporters.

"Fickle bunch"? Some of us have been disclosing the uncomfortable truth for a very long time indeed!
