Sorry if this has been asked and answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find anything.

When was the last time that a current Blades player played at a World Cup? I can't think of any in my lifetime (but I may be wrong) apart from maybe Alan Kelly at USA '94? He was in the squad, but did he play?

Seems likely that Iliman might get a few minutes at least this year, so when (if ever) did a player who was our player at the time, last play in a World Cup?

Jostein Flo for Norway 1994 world cup in USA. Came on as sub against Brazil 0-1 down and they won 2-1.

Started the fans wearing Viking helmets. Never seen anybody head a ball as hard as he did. UTB.

Was Suffo technically still our player? I know he had left and never played for us again, but was he still registered to us at the time of the World Cup?
We loaned him to Numancia in April that season soon after the West Brom game. Although he might have technically still been on the books, I wouldn't say by that point he was our player in the same way Ili is at the moment.

Hard to say that Suffo was still playing for us at the time of the World Cup in the summer of 2002, ironically he was also sent off in his, and Cameroon's, last game in that World Cup in a 2-0 defeat to Germany. Even more ironic that he came on as a sub in that game in the 53rd minute and was sent off in the 77th.

Another one for the historians is, if Iliman scores a goal, will that be the first time a current Blades player has scored a goal in a WC Finals?

The only Blades player I can think of that's actually scored in a World Cup Finals (though not playing for us at the time) is our current Assistant Manager, Stuart McCall, who of course scored for Scotland in the 1990 World Cup whilst playing for Everton.

Edit : actually just thought of another, Martin Peters of course!

Yes it will. Suffo and Flo did not score.

We've only had 6 players go to World Cups whilst a United player.

Mind you, thinking about it, Tony Currie might well've gone had England qualified in '74. He played in the last qualifier - a 1-1 draw with Poland at Wembley, where a win would have seen us qualify.

TC might have struggled rot make it in 1974, he missed the end of the 73/74 season because he needed a cartilage op.
