email from club - NO MORE TICKETS ON SALE IN KOP - standing & wrong seat usage

There was a short term solution actually announced: if the club survived in the Prem for one more season the Kop posts would've been removed. The cost was 10-15million. This would've opened up a number of restricted view seats and enhanced the match day experience for regulars on the Kop. Such a missed opportunity.

My understanding is that the most most important point of any project isn't just building and labour cost
but also minimising lost revenue due to the potential of capacity reduction.

So there's a really strong argument to do what's currently happening at Anfield adding a 2nd tier to the away end.
Basically we block off the land behind the Kop and do much of the building work on there, so initially there's no actual reduction on capacity.
As the project gets closer to completion then a section (maybe 2,000 seats) right at the back of the Kop would need blocking off with final works done during the Summer.

So the vast bulk of the Kop would remain fully operational throughout the modernisation work.

As the Kop has the worse facilities in the whole ground it does really need doing sooner or later.
but as mentioned earlier regards safe standing in the short term an answer might be the trial it in the Kop corner.

This was also the case with the Anfield Main Stand (our South Stand). A much more serious piece of work. I always envisaged our South Stand getting done first but maybe the current Kop issues will force an owner's hand. I believe the new Anfield Road will take two years to complete (scheduled to open next season). The Main Stand took slightly less than that, but it was an easier build.

I really don't get this. If someone really wants to go to a game, it doesn't matter if they sit on their own as you a watching a game of football with like minded people who you may end up speaking to anyway. You can actually watch the game without distractions

If someone is desperate to sit next to someone they know so they can hold hands during the game, you just ask them to move seats to the BLUT or move to Gangway A of the Kop so they can sit together
Some people don't "really want to go" they are just happy to go if it's easy & the circumstances suit. Which should be fine.

I agree. The process is simple. You just have to register on the database ( 5 minutes max ). People don't hesitate to subscribe to various things....Netflix,Sky,Facebook, buying tickets for concerts or other sporting events etc so registering your name and agrees to obtain a ticket shouldn't be an issue as far as I can see. Once registered, they can be added to your 'family and friends' account if necessary.

I can can see an argument which, if there are any unsold tickets a week before a game, unsold tickets can be purchase by ST holders/members in loyalty point order( e.g. maximum of 2) .

In an ideal world this would be a great solution.

As mentioned previously, the Prince wants to sell the club and isn't interested in any outlay that won't offer a short term return. He's not going to fund a Liverpool Kop type solution.

Best we can hope for imo is rail seating on the Kop Corner.

Back to the original issue:

From the South Stand I could see a team of yellow-jacket stewards were deployed a couple of times to clear the top of the far gangway (F or G?) about ten minutes before half time and ten minutes after.

The Kop looked fairly full but the were significant gaps at the back between gangways A and B.

There were members of the Burnley backroom team seated in amongst the United fans in the blocks that were unavailable for sale in the South Stand so it might be that what few seats were available were block booked by the visiting club.

You can buy seats by the exact row and number. The ticket website has allowed this for years. Put you and your mate's customer numbers in, and you can buy more than one ticket together. So you have no excuse.
And also a simple phone call to the ticket office and they will swap you seats so that you are sat together.

Lack of money etc will be the club's excuse for not doing the Kop and South Stand. however they could rip out the seat from the middle to the back of the Kop. replace with standing or they could not sell any season tickets as they do now. Then give everyone the opportunity for group bookings so that ten mates could sit together etc. until they get around to redevelopment. may not stop people from standing up. but could work for the short term.

I am pretty sure the club will need the approval of SAG/Council for any standing area to be allowed.

With the current issues can you see SAG/Council agreeing to this ? No, I can't either

And from the vlog of a burnley fan, the gangways looked clear throughout the match, I would guess the blockages at half time were people walking up to the back at 40 minutes and standing at the top waiting for the HT whistle.

Good on the stwards for addressing this, it remains to be seen if the problem returns when we start selling matchday tickets.

Well we will see tommorow night as the kop was more or less sold out for Rotherham match before it was postponed

The rest of the ground was just about sold out too, including the BLUT.
A friend told me that the 31,000 tickets had already been sold.
After the match was postponed quite a lot of tickets were returned for refunds, however I've looked at the ticket site and sales are going well again.

Just checked and there's only 200 tickets left
About 100 left in the BLUT and 100 in the Kop corner, thats it's.

So should be very close to a sell out. Rotherham have sold all their 2,700 tickets.
Even with the restrictions on the Kop still reckon it will be around 30K tomorrow night.

Looking forward to seeing the 2,700 Burnley fans being told to sit down.

The point is that there won't be 3,700 fans trying to stand in an area with only 2,700 seats.

This is what is happening at the back of the KOP.

That’s one of the two points that was raised as an issue. The other was persistent standing.

So some fans buy tickets scattered about all over the kop and then find a spot to congregate together, and all because they couldn't buy seats together.

^ This is the problem ^

During the Warnock PL season, we used to buy tickets on the BLUT so we could ' be' with our mates, our KOP central, season ticket seats, would then be sold to others.

So you can buy seats together, some choose not to though.

There's an article from online Sheffield just popped up on my insta about the safety of both Sheffield grounds, ours come out worst. Won't let me copy and paste but from an article in the star

Is that the one about violent incidents around the stadium? If so, it’s really nothing to do with the discussion on this thread.

And further, it states within 1km of the ground. Doesn't even say whether this is matchdays only or all the time. I would fully expect more crime within 1km of Bramall Lane at any given time as this would include a lot of the city centre. There's not so much around Hillsborough.

Yes. Everyone behaved themselves today and remained seated in their correct place for the full 90 minutes. Huddersfield tickets go on general sale next week. Probably.
Kop is locked again for Huddersfield ticket sales.
Boooooo!

Fuck me, what do we have to do? They'll be telling us not to do coke in the bogs next.

Easy to stop that. Just one person in the cubicle at the time. Those that can’t be separated from their mates are fucked then.

If tonight was the last game in front of a full Kop for, god knows how long, maybe forever looking at this Council‘s record, what a truly Shitty way to go out.
