Apparently, people who've been down to get tickets have been told we've sold around 20k so far

only another 19k to go then, I don't know why the FA charge the prices they do its a disgrace. I know it was championship play off but how many did we take against burnley?

I think the prices are fine. They have 5 grades, so you don't have to pay 88 quid a ticket. Me and my dad got the cheapo 34 quid ones. 34 quid to me is more than fine for Wembley. It costs more to go to bloody Arsenal. Also it's pretty awesome we've sold 20,000 so far. Such brilliant support for a 3rd tier team.

According to a friend who works in the ticket office we've sold close to 23k thus far

I'm sort of heartened that so many fans have decided not to go to Wembley. Maybe it shows that ultimately football will have to have a major rethink at some point.

We would have sold out at sensible prices at Old Trafford. But that would have meant putting the fans first. And yes I understand about Wembley contracts etc and that was another farce.

There's a disgusting greed about football in which those involved in football seem to think it's their life goal to squeeze every last penny they can from the fans. And they've done a great PR job at convicing fans that it's somehow the only way it can be.

The clubs can't even resist making a killing on the coach travel which could have been provided at cost price to help fans.

Once the novelty value of Wembley has gone - which it did for us against Burnley - then you're just left with a pain in the arse journey and an expenisve day out for 90 minutes of third division football for the prize of playing in the Championship for another 12 years.

The PR and the gloss may still be fooling some people but many like me have sussed it. Unfortunately many like me are still daft enough to get a ticket.

Shame this isn't at Old Trafford this year, you could have had 40000 we could have had 30000 and job done, although i dont remember it being much cheaper last year to be honest.

Not to mention the little extras like £27.50 parking, £4.30 pints etc. The only reason they charge these prices is because they can.

I can't say I agree, really. Something the authorities can't win. I remember when we were in the semi against Wednesday and the game was originally planned for Old Trafford (I think - it wasn't Wembley anyway). After much moral outrage about us not being allowed to go to Wembley, the game was moved. If the league had come out this time and said that as both teams are from the North, they'd have this game at Old Trafford instead of Wembley, there'd have been a lot of criticism about Northern clubs being treated differently.

As for the prices - true, parking etc is expensive, but I doubt it's much cheaper at Old Trafford. If you want to go down by car the just park at a station a few stops up the line from Wembley Central and get the train in. You'll get away quicker after the game too.

As for the £4.30 pint - well that's only about 15% more expensive than most places down here, and a 15% mark up at an 'event' isn't unreasonable. Bear in mind the costs of selling anything are much higher if you can only sell for a few hours in an average week.

It was elland road capacity at the time was around 35000 and spurs v arsenal was designated as being so big it had to be at wembley . I think most would have taken old Trafford who's capacity was around 45000 at the time

I think when we played the porkers, Wembley was a special experience. It's now overdone - especially for us.

I do think the prices are extremely silly for 3rd division football. The ground really isn't that special, the atmosphere's crap, the congestion a pain in the arse. I'd go for Old Trafford every time now.

Thank god for cigarettes and alcohol.

Fair enough. All the same, I think there'd have been a lot of criticism of the decision if we hadn't been allowed to go to Wembley this time.

Might be back at Old Trafford next year with Wembley hosting the Champions League .....

Wembley is a biger pitch and with our style of play that suits me.
A few people still say if we had gone for the smaller pitch in 93 then the result might have been different.
Lets keep them big open spaces and make huddersfield run out of steam.

Tearstain

Talking of Yorkshire sides followings at Wembley, I notice York took 9,000 with them today. Obviously a touch outnumbered considering they were playing Luton, a few miles down the road (they took 30,000). Didn't seem to matter though - a Yorkshire club back in the league.

The FA know that most clubs see wembley as a great venue and as most teams go there at best every 5 years, then fans will just pay anyway... So what if wembley is cheaper than arsenal. It doesn't make it right.

But it misses the point entirely.

At the cheapest ticket £34 is far from cheap. It's far from affordable when you consider transport is at best £25 from what I've seen here. From Sheffield it seems most coaches and trains leave around 9 am and plan to get back around 9pm, so you have to buy food... God forbid fans do this inside wembley. You're looking at around £80 for the day out and that's for the cheap seats.

In my opinion the cheapest wembley ticket should be less than the most expensive standard tickets in that division for the play offs.

It's ironic that Huddersfield fans complained at our pricing for the league game this season, but have snapped up more than 15,000 tickets just to play the same team at wembley.... Presumably these won't all be the cheap tickets!

I can't say I agree, really. Something the authorities can't win. .

They can win by just sometimes putting fans before greed, tradition before greed, common sense before greed.

If they have to have it at Wembley why do the FA and United have to try and screw the fans for every penny they can in the process?

The cost of the day out from Sheffield and Huddersfield is obscene.

If Wembley is so special and the prices are right then it would be near full on Saturday given that we are big club and Huddersfield are hardly a small club. Instead there will be 40 to 50,000 empty seats and the footballing authorities won't give a shit cos they'll be too busy counting the cash and planning the next big rip off.

And yes we would have taken more to Old Trafford or Villa Park. Which is also where the FA cup semis should be.

it might be expensive if you have to pay for kids/wives etc, but iv got a ticket for £34 and return travel for 19.50. at 53.50 for ticket n travel, its a cheap as any away day of any real distance id say and this is Wembley. better than going Exeter (id imagine - in fairness i have never been to Exeter).

id far rather be going to London for the wknd than Manchester.

if you're a kop monkey like me be careful of buying the expensive tickets 'cos the prawn sandwich brigade don't like the swearing/singing/standing and what have you and will attempt to get you removed from the stadium.. that's what happened last time anyway

Old Trafford maybe but Villa Park has a capacity of less than 43,000. We would have been given less than 20,000 tickets and we’ve apparently sold 23,000 already. United would have had to limit sales to one per customer and if there had been a sell out, we may even have seen the touts getting involved. Why would a day trip to Birmingham be better than a day trip to Wembley/London?

The point is that a club can earn a trip to Old Trafford by reaching The Premiership or simply by being drawn away to Man Utd in the cup. You can only get to play at Wembley by the traditional methods of Play-Off Finals, Cup Finals and now Cup Semi-Finals (I agree these shouldn’t be played there).

Yes, the ticket prices are expensive at Wembley but they are set by The FA and would be similar at Old Trafford or Villa Park (even higher once the touts step in). If people are that bothered about being ripped off at Wembley and the surrounding areas, drive down, park at a tube station for a £1, take your own food and drink.

There are cheaper ways to do it but many people will want to spend their time and money in the pub and at the ground as it’s part of the occasion

I agree that Play Off finals should be at Wembley.

Semi Finals shouldn't. they should be decided after the draw for a Neutral venue within reach of both clubs.

If we'd played Wednesday at Elland Road we would've won

Can't agree that cup semi's be played at anywhere with a capacity of less than 70,000...... a percentage of tickets always ends up with the host club and the FA lackeys and most teams can put out 30k fans for a big game. Unless some fans get to be disappointed then there is not a lot of scope to play elsewhere other than Wembley or maybe the Emirates and Old Trafford. Villa park the Sty and the scum hole up the M1 just are not good enough any longer, too small and in some cases ready to fall down.

  1. It was ellend road (as already touched on)
  2. Wembley was twice as big as ellend road
  3. "We dont beleive that Sheffield United and Wednesday could fill Wembley" - we got more that Aresenal v Spurs the next day (I think)
  4. OT is a 75,000 seater stadium nowadays and could therefore comfortably fit the vast majority of everyone who wanted to go (based on current ticket sales levels)
  5. My ticket for Wembley was £15, and that was in the first row of the 2nd "tier", a similar ticket was £20ish for the PO in 1997. A comparable view is £54-£64 this time around

Prices don't seem to be a problem as the most expensive tickets have sold first, its the coach prices i find a joke the club should not be cashing in on the travel IMO anyway. I hope we are close to selling out nothing worse than a half full stadium of that size.

A fair point but I would have restricted the choice to either Old Trafford, Emirates or The Millenium Stadium. That way:-

a) There would still be between 60,000 and 76,000 tickets available.
b) There would always be an option, even if Man.U, Arsenal or both reached the FA Cup Semi.
c) New Wembley would remain a "special" venue for finals and internationals only

Too late now anyway, that horse has already bolted sadly...

Well my days cost £105 so far but that is on the first class train, going to take a big bag full of cans and sup them in the sunshine on Wembley way soaking up the atmosphere.

But at the end of the day if we dont win Ill be £100 up as I've got all the money I've won on the piggies and several free bets on Hudds to win, if we win then I wont care as its all dirty money anyway. Roll on Saturday! UTB!!!!
