email from club - NO MORE TICKETS ON SALE IN KOP - standing & wrong seat usage

Surely the shallowness of the Kop is an issue ? Maybe not

The main issue at the moment thou, as mentioned previously, is how do you get fans to sit/stand in the space they are allocated. Rail seating by itself wouldn't resolve this
Simple, close the areas until the selfish arse holes behave like the vast majority of society and do what they agreed to do when the purchased a ticket?

Absolutely nothing against the club here because I can’t really see what else they can do.

However, I’m struggling to see why fans supporting the Euros and Rugby World Cup are celebrated for their passion (this was on BBC Breakfast news this morning) when standing up and celebrating, but the same isn’t extended to Sheffield United fans.

As has been stated many times on this thread, standing up isn't the issue

They need to define what 'peristant' standing meams. Seems that some standing is okay, especially if it's rugby or women's football, but standing all the way through a Blades game isn't. But there's no guidance on when people can stand without fear of getting chucked out.

No they don’t.

It’s a called a ‘seat’ for a reason. If that isn’t a clear enough definition, then these people are a liability to all if left alone using a fork to eat a meal, without them been told how to use one!

Stop playing daft.

So you are saying that people should stay seated whatever happens on the pitch? If a goal is scored and people stand up they should be thrown out and banned?

Anyone else attend the rugby at the Lane yesterday?

Hilarious seeing the different approach at the same ground I've been attending for over 40 years.

Nothing was too much trouble, beer in the stand, go where you want, and funniest of all, SYP stood across BL after smiling and chatting to everyone passing by 'safe journey home'

I know football fans don't help themselves but it's always a small minority. The way you're treated for following different sports at the same ground by the authorities is stark and imho, part of the problem.

For starters, I'm convinced drinking in the stands would be less problematic on a few fronts at football. I completely refute the idea it would lead to more drink fuelled incidents. More like leisurely boozing instead of chucking them down quick before and at half time.

When did our beautiful game get so complicated
When Thatchers Government got involved and the Taylor report...Not sure what they knew about football and standing on terraces, I can guess though.

That is your choice. The club hasn't asked you to do this and your( and fans like you) aren't the issue that the Club is trying to resolve

If you saying I’m not part of the problem, I agree, but I do admit that there is a problem with blocking gangways and not standing in your allocated space.

What is annoying is that the club has lumped me in with these inconsiderate fans and because, by my own admission, I’m a persistent stander. I have no defence.

That’s how you alienate you fan base.

They do define it. In the research they commissioned looking at the safe standing trials, the final report has the following:

Persistent standing: standing to watch live sport in seated areas for prolonged periods of time, not just at moments of excitement (such as a goal celebration).”

A photo of fans standing up at a game isn’t for example going to tell you whether it’s an example of persistent standing, as it doesn’t give an indication of how long the standing lasts. The Kop leaping to its feet as a cross goes in and then celebrating someone scoring isn’t persistent standing. Standing to sing the GCB song isn’t persistent standing. Standing up to sing “stand up if you hate Wednesday” isn’t persistent standing.

Now, the massive elephant in the room, the actual problem. I have witnessed this numerous times since getting promoted from league 1, getting to my seat and finding friends and family members of people stood in my allocated seat, squashing the whole row up and causing people to form on the gangways. That is what is being targeted with stopping selling match day tickets and that is what will ease SAG and SCC's collective worries and threats.

And that is the problem that could have been fixed months ago by the stewards (backed up by a couple of SYP and good communication) moving amongst the crowd during play and checking tickets, not having legalised thugs blocking the entrances and attempting to intimidate fans.

How difficult is this to understand;

Steward approaches a fan standing in the isle and asks him to return to his seat.

Fan says he can’t because someone is standing in it.

Steward goes to the seat and kicks the fucker out.

Fan returns to his seat.

Rinse and repeat for 4 matches and the problem goes away.

Have you been on the top of the Kop recently? You can't just walk along a row, identify someone, and kick them out. The rows are impossibly narrow. You simply can't get past people

I don't think the issue is standing all game. Technically yeah that is persistent standing but I think this can be allowed.

I think it's the persistent standing in a gangway etc and wrong spaces and areas along with grouping up in small spaces.

Yes, I understand your point, but with good communication from the club beforehand, so we know what the stewards were doing, I’m sure fans would accommodate as we do with late comers or someone going for a piss.

I haven’t, been away this season but I do remember the Stewards at Barnsley pre season having no problem kicking out a Blade standing at the back. Admittedly there is more space between rows.

I am a season ticket holder back row near gangway F.you can click on the tickets in any area of the Kop. the people in the next few rows down are all season ticket holders. All stand up all through the match and choose not to sit.I have nothing against that we stand on our seats in the back row. to see all the game. had no problems at all.they are fans who stand in the gangway does not bother me.not my job or my business to tell them to move. I think most fans enter via the john st turnstiles.and don't walk up Shoreham street to the turnstiles there.I think this is part of the problem. a couple of signs telling fans even better on the match ticket direct to Shoreham st turnstiles.no one wants any sections of the kop shut. An email from the club to all supporters asking if you can you assist the club in this matter would be good.and Bramall Lane upper the seats should be the same price as the Kop.this may help as well.

I agree for the mot part. The only issue I can see with this is the (relatively, I think) recent habit of launching a pint in the air when a goal is scored - see any number of videos from the Euros etc.

While I'd like to be able to enjoy a pint while watching the Blades, I really don't want to go home from every match absolutely soaked in warm lager 😂

I've noticed an issue the last couple of games where a couple of the John St Kop turnstiles have been closed at 14:50ish! This is completely mad. As you say, MOST fans come from the direction of town. We've dodged the massive queues by walking down Shoreham to the other turnstiles, but we did this on our own initiative. None of the stewards were directing people that way.

At Leeds and almost every other club with a decent atmosphere people buy behind the goal when they're young and wanting to be in the mix, then when they're old and or want to take their young kids, they move out to the flanks.
It's common sense to almost everyone other than us, who can't even manage to give the atmosphere generators 8 rows of the KOP.
Why don't you and your mates do that then.

I really hope we're not getting to a point where "persistent standing" is not allowed, as some seem to be suggesting.

I have had a season ticket at the back of the kop for around 20 years, for no other reason than I prefer to stand up to watch a football match. I keep that seat and keep standing up in the knowledge that everyone behind me has the same preference and so I'm not upsetting anybody. One day I'll get to a point where I'd rather sit down, so I'll move elsewhere, probably a few rows further down the kop. The entire fan base knows this is what happens, and it's never been an issue. It would be a massive shame if the club had to put a stop it.

Standing in the wrong seats is obviously a different argument (although it's never bothered me personally).

I'm the same, I went to my first game in the late 70's and have stood in the same place right at the top of E ever since, barring the odd game where I'll try somewhere else in the ground. I will go for a drink with mates before the game but won't sit with them, I prefer my traditional place. It's absolutely fine. People respect each other and help each other. Never felt in the slightest bit in danger. People tend to respect the smoking rule and tend to nip out for a fag, which is one reason why there are people standing around the exits - you can see a bit of the pitch while having a smoke. I'm sure the exits would clear immediately if there was a geniune emergency. They're using a massive hammer to crack a tiny nut imo

Guess where l’m filing this load of bollocks?

You state you only attend a handful of games a season, some where you use a mates ST and others where you sit elsewhere. Now you’ve stood in the same place for years.

Fantasist.
