From the kop looked a clear pen to me but ref seemed certain at it being a dive (which doesn't say much tbh). No replay of it in sky highlights or sufc youtube highlight (maybe suggests it was a dive), if it was a dive I'm glad the ref caught it cus I hate seeing it from any player but would like to think ours are above it, having said that being from man city academy I could see him being taught to go down at any contact.

I don't think VAR overturn the ref's initial decision. It was a dive. 100%.
If there was contact it was too minimal.
I don't mind our players trying to buy penalties but they've got to do better than that.

Outside of that, good performance by McAtee. Particularly first half. Looks a player. One of the few positives to come out of today.

Stood on his foot but not enough to go down. Who even fucking knows any more.

Clear dive, correct decision
Hecky would demand a meeting with the referees association if it had been at the other end 😩

The player kicked Mcatee’s foot, it’s absolutely clear. My flabber was gasted when ITV stated tonight it wasn’t a pen.
He tapped his foot and he went down like he'd Ben shot. Was there contact? Yes. Was there enough contact to make him go down. Not in a million years. He was looking for it and expected the defender to follow through, but he didn't.

Looked like contact from my position but possibly a exaggerated response in going down.

I thought it was a pen but looking at the responses on here you can see why it could or couldnt be given, so many fine margins, but would i like to see var back. No way ,without it we get something to moan about

At the time I thought it was a definite penalty and vented my frustration. Having seen it again I think there was probably a slight touch, but no need to go down. Having said that I couldn't see any reason to go down whilst in a good position like that.

I don't like diving or exaggerating a dive - classic example yesterday when Toney ( Brentford) was touched, threw his legs out like a frog and got the penalty, which was the correct decision but didn't need the dive in my opinion.

SUTV clearly shows that they 'Touched' toes!, NOT a pen IMHO.
I'm sick of this diving/cheating, not too long ago it was called the 'Foreign Disease' creeping into our game!, but it is now something that is performed by 1 & all!, even practiced on the training grounds by some!.

Was having a discussion with Brett ormerod he said Anel was off I said how when the other defender is playing him on .

I agree. If he had carried on with the ball we may have scored. Hopefully he has learned something.

There was definite contact. Whether it was sufficient to bring him down is another thing but that doesn’t seem to matter nowadays.
Thing is if you don't go down you get nothing, so although not good to see, we can't blame players for going down easy..i thought there was slight contact, so fair enough.

It was a penalty the left foot going forward was kicked backwards which would have been the standing foot as the right foot was being picked up thus momentum caused McAtee to go forward onto the floor.

Anyone who doesnt believe me get someone to kick your forward foot when you are walking and see how you gain your balance !

;)

Agree. Refs will never give penalties if you're fouled unless you end up on the ground.

Yes there was contact, and theoretically should have been a penalty (got the man and not the ball) but never going to be given.

As others have said, maybe better off just trying to square the ball across the box rather than win the pen.
