The analysis also excludes any players "not listed as English on www.fbref.com". I'm not sure that excluding someone like Wilfried Zaha helps the statistics.

Edit: Silent Blade I'm pretty sure that's not at all what Ball_Sup (Phil) is trying to say and I'm not entirely sure what your agenda is.
Building a bridge back to Silent Blade ...

I was merely trying to report/quote the bit in the link that mentions Sheffield United. I was not trying to put any judgement or spin on that. I'm sorry if I misled you.

Could someone explain to lay people this "thing" and also why it generates antagonism. Thanks. BTW Phil as a recipient of your blog to my inbox may I say how much I enjoy it's content and well structured , witty prose. Keep going.
Basically it's a report that is published every year. Every Academy gets points for players who progressed to play in the EPL, EFL and National League in a particular season (in this case 21/22). The higher the league, the more points. So, we'd be getting points for Maguire, Walker, Calvert-Lewin, etc. Tot all the points up.

Got it. Thanks.

Makes sense why we fell in that case, as Sharp, Jags, Ndiaye, Jebbison and RND technically dropped from being Premier League players in 20/21 to Championship players in 21/22, following our relegation. Ramsdale too if they’re basing it on the opening day of each season (although I suspect they do not).

Ndiaye doesn't count as he's not English. Possibly, if a strict interpretation of English is being applied, RND is excluded too.

It's based on minutes on the pitch so Ramsdale will have given us a fair bit, another issue compared to the previous season is Calvert-Lewin's ongoing injury.

Ah sorry, wasn’t aware of that bit 😊.

Leicester's score for PL players is 6 times higher than Crewe's. Crewe played lots of homegrown players as they finished bottom of League One so their academy is ranked 9th and Leicester is ranked 21st.

A recent Training Ground Guru Podcast was with Sally Needham, Human Development and Performance Culture Lead at Sheffield United Academy. It's maybe got a bit too much jargon in, but I think it's an interesting insight into the Neuroscience that goes into developing players. Sending Adam Davies for singing lessons for example. Anyway, it's not all about - kick it harder...

Interesting pod. Takes me back to my army days, which I can only understand the psychology of it with hindsight.
The reference to the special forces guy was interesting. ‘Train hard, fight easy’ lol

Tough job with such a broad remit, from 9 year olds, to adult coaches at academy and first team level. The younger they are, the more receptive they should be. Her having the UEFA A licence is great for acceptance and respect.

The most appropriate comment came at the beginning. Everyone is different. Know yourself.

Interesting and enjoyable thank you.

It transpires we've had the Sleepologists in today. The Carrier Bag Firm can get right behind that initiative in the afternoons...

Training Ground Guru have published their 2023/24 Academy Productivity Rankings. The basics are - Academies are ranked according to Graduates making League appearances. As is the modern way, more and more of the explanation and detail has gone behind a paywall.

The headline is that Shirecliffe is rated as the 10th most productive Academy. Up from 18th last time out. And is the most productive Cat 2 Academy, just ahead of Charlton Athletic.

I think this shows what great work is done at shirecliffe. That’s some achievement to be 10th when you look at funds most of the other clubs in the top 20 have.

Also interesting that being tier 1 doesn’t necessarily mean better or more successful. Look at stoke and Burnley
