Sorry no report last night. Very tired and been at work from 7am to 8pm today. Work crazy at moment so hard to write really detailed match reports from mid week games. Hence no pod either.

It was another flat and disappointing performance, much like Saturday. We probably deserved a draw for possession, shots at goal and overall play but they actually naybe had the best chances if not as many. We looked too predictable in terms of slow build up and going wide all the time.

Key creative talents Ndiaye & Berge were off it again. Atmosphere was flat and at times I could hear player shouts from the back of the South Stand. It always felt a 1-0 either way but they did cause us problems on the break. The time-wasting and stop start stuff should have been stopped by the ref but we still have to be better.

The goal was so soft but 2nd half other one Norwood shot we passed and passed but there was no penetrative at all. QPR doubled up on our most dangerous players and we could not move it quick enough. I never really felt we got a concerted spell of pressure and in the end it was a very good away performance from the best side we have seen down the Lane.

We look a tired bunch where the injuries have caught up with us but with another 10 games to the World Cup break it is worrying seeing how flat and lacking in energy we are. The injuries are ridiculous but the sheer number suggests it is not just bad luck and the whole medical, conditioning and fitness department needs to be urgently reviewed.

I have suddenly gone from thinking we look like winning every game to now thinking I'd take a point each against Stoke and Norwich. If Berge and Baldock are out for any time, we will have a real hodge podge team the next few weeks.

Ratings-

Foderingham 5/10 - Poor on the goal. He hasto save that. Just went through him. Made one decent save outside of that.

Baldock 5/10 - Tried hard but crossing poor again and defensively he struggled when they came at us. Missed a good headed chance snd injured himself having to go off.

Norrington Davies 7.5/10 - Our best player again. Competitive. Won tackles and attacked when he could. Hugely improved this season.

Basham 4/10 - Looked someone on his last legs at times as quicker players left him for dead. He seemed obsessed by trying to nick it and just got in some awful positions. A real struggle for him and Egan.

Egan 5/10 - Not much better than Bash. Cynical booking and then he was getting done routinely for pace. We looked all over the pace at times. After the goal he made a mistake and they nearly made it two. A few awful headed efforts when well placed too - complete contrast to him for Ireland.

Bogle 6/10 - Decent first half with a few good runs and link with RND. Had a decent shot and dome other tricky pieces if skill. Faded badly after the break and looked exhausted. Not in it and then taken off.

Norwood 5.5/10 - Seem such mixed reviews on him from last night. Some said he was excellent but some said he was awful. I thought he gave it away a lot and had his hand up apologising so many times! He played a few good diagonals, one great cross 2nd half and the shot which was our best effort 2nd half. He was too slow to do things at times and it frustrates me he never carries it to being men out.

Doyle 6.5/10 - Thought along with RND our best player first half and was busy and got in good areas. He looked full of running which means his fade outs in second halves are worrying. He wS at fault with Wes for the goal for not going with the runner. Worrying he is struggling to last more than an hour but I still think he was better than the other two in midfield even when he went off?

Berge 5/10 - Pedestrian safe performance. Not involved enough and game just went in around him for too long. One or two moments (good shout for a pen) but he has to stamp his authority more. You can see why teams have doubts about shelling out so much on him. Of course he will still be a big loss if put injured.

Ndiaye 5/10 - One good run where he did everything right apart from the finish but he was mostly ineffective in both a more attacking position and more withdrawn. He has had two games where he has been a bit of a spectator. Need to get him the ball more.

McBurnie 4/10 - Nothing stuck,he dived looking for fouls and looked so sluggish. So sluggish and was blowing even before HT. Stupid to get booked and suspended at the end. Looked like the McBurnie of last 2 seasons last night.

Subs:

Khadra 6.5/10 - I panned him.Saturday but he did OK last night. Few good runs and crosses and was a threat. They pressed him and had 2 men on him.

Brewster 4/10 - Still waiting for something...anything from him. Runs into blind alleys and hides behind his man when the crosses come in. Never looks like scoring or even a major threat.

Sharp 4/10 - As above. We looked even less of a threat when we changed the strikers and those who started were poor. Sharp offers little as an impact sub as he lacks pace or physicality to worry tiring defenders.

McAtee - Did OK with a few runs and offered some decent link down the left.

QPR - Decent. Well organised, worked hard and a threat on the break. Chair and Willock were the best two attackers on the field. They denied us space and stopped any sustained pressure.

Ref - Gave loads of 50 - 50s to them I thought and should have booked the keeper/defenders for time wasting much earlier. He looked at the assistant on the Berge one, who looked back but both bottled it for me.

Thanks for the report, DB. Would rather have something from you than nothing!

Always appreciated.

Probably agree with most of those ratings except for Bogle.

Yes he was playing on the left but that shouldn't earn him bonus points. 5/10 at best.

Clear , concise & cogent report.
I concur m'lud.
Some embarrassingly poor performances.
The standards from Bash & Egan are really worrying.
Norwood is part of the reason we play our whole attacking game in front of the opposition defence. He collects it at the back , never drives forward , never plays a through ball , never does anything unexpected - just passes it either 5 yards or 50 yards to someone ahead of him , but never quick enough or incisive enough to give the recipient an advantage over his marker.
No wonder Norwood gets high passing stats , his passes are safe + never advance us - he is the beating heart of slow non-penetrative Wilderball + I am heartily sick of him being the only route we have out of our own half.
McBurnie reverted to playing the twat last night - the worrying thing is that his more expensive colleague offered absolutely nothing when he came on ...I want to run on the pitch + get hold of Brewster + SHAKE HIM UP , tell him he can't keep waiting for it to happen .. he's got to make it happen , stop hiding , impose himself , do something , anything , FFS.
Mousset has gone but we are still stuck with £40m of strikers who have major deficiencies.
Sharp is now too old to compensate for these two.
And Berge ? Where did he go from 10th to 85th minute ?
I picture Berge driving forward against a backpedaling defence + feeding Ndiaye , but it just doesn't happen - if those two or Khadra/Ndiaye could develop an intuitive partnership , they could be devastatingly effective - c'mon Hecky , play the cards in your hand.
It's no good expecting Ndiaye to be fed by McBurnie , they are miles apart in terms of their "football brains". They were the two up front last night and we wouldn't have scored if we'd played till Christmas. Someone other than Ndiaye has got to run at defences carrying the ball , get them rattled + then Ndiaye swoops in for a goal. It should be Berge.
Last night our attacks were predictable Wilderball down the wings + crap crosses - can't Hecky change instructions during the game ?
Yes we have injuries but I expect much better from a lot of those who played (and managed) last night.

The 2 reasons why our good start is in danger of being de railed. We are in danger of disappearing into a sea of mediocrity if solutions are not found quickly. Board meetings this week should be addressing the continuing injury problems.

We've won all 7 games with Anel in the team and lost the 2 without him. Not going to solve the all the problems we are going to be experiencing over the next few weeks without left sided players but having him back against Stoke would be a plus.
