It is for Wednesday like it was for us in 1994 and 2007 for us - all the odds in our favour and what could possibly go wrong....

On 1994, I would like to know if any club has been relegated in such a combination more unlikely circumstances- a last minute goal against us, one rival coming back from 2-0 down to win and the other getting an unlikely point away to that seasons' runners up; each of these on its own would have been unlikely - but all three?

Given that Man Utd had won the league and were resting players, I think there was always a possibility WHU would get something from that game. Remember all they needed was a draw.

Having checked, it's actually not correct! They also drew 0-0 with us at home and lost 0-2 to West Ham. Going into that last game their home record was P20 W14 D4 L2, whilst Ipswich's away record was P20 W4 D7 L9 . So the latter actually had a fairly decent away record (losing less than half) for a team near the bottom.

And of course, we were winning 1-0 at home to Ipswich going into stoppage time earlier in the season...

And if in the 90th minute at our home game against Oldham this seasons, Maguire had kept his arms by his side and let Simonsen smother the ball, we would have had an extra point and be favourites for automatic....

Agree totally. Without that, we'd have 3 points more from teh Oldham game, an probably have got a point at Walsall (if not won).

Maybe Lowton diving it like a lunatic and getting sent off when we were 2-1 up v Oldham was the pivotal moment. Without that we would have probably won that game and got at least a point at Walsall.

I am now firmly of the belief that it will happen. Why? Because the 'Soccer Dice' have spoken, and they have spoken in a way that one could truly believe of Sheffield United.

My brother bought me the Soccer Dice when I was about ten-years-old (so 1976 then), and I've just managed to unearth the missing green one (the other is red). I rolled home team first, Exeter v United, followed by Wednesday v Wycombe, three rolls per team per half.

United went a goal up early on but Exeter equalised midway through the first half, before going 2-1 up just after the break. United equalised right at the death, but I feared it would not be enough...

However, drama at Hillsborough as Wednesday battered on Wycombe's door but got nowhere, with the away team netting just before half time. The pattern was much the same in the second half, and with the last roll of the dice, Wycombe broke away and banged in a second. The scores finished:

Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Wycombe Wanderers

A game which might give all Blades a bit of hope: Crawley Town 0-3 Hereford United last Saturday. Every man and his dog would have backed Crawley, who would have effectively sealed promotion with a win, to beat second bottom Hereford. Particularly as Crawley were unbeaten in 13 games. Admittedly, Hereford weren't (and still aren't) relegated but I'd still take a similar storyline at Hillsborough on Saturday.

I had a feeling Marie Antionette's winner in the 143rd minute against Carlisle was going to be the key moment in the run-in and so it may be. I know it didn't matter in the end for us but at the time, it's comparable to Unsworth's winner against Hull in 06.

It only takes a game like ours against Stevenage and the footballing gods giving us what's due and there may yet be a final twist. Strangely I don't feel half as nervous about Satdi as last week and you have to believe that the players for both teams will have had a similar change in mindset this week which could yet work in our favour.

My Blackpool mates are loving the prospect of the play-offs and they're fully expecting to triumph once again. They may be heading for a fall but contrast that with our lot and despite what you may or may not believe in, it has to have an effect on the team.

Contrast Blackpool 2 years ago, twice behind at Wembley and they came through it, for the Burnley game, we were pretty much resigned to defeat as soon as they scored. It showed on the terraces and pretty much the same on the pitch.

True but I think many fans were still quite hopeful at half-time and if Browny had scored that pen who knows. The atmosphere against Burnley was completely different even with an hour still to go.

The fact that we'd set up as a 4-5-1 with Craig Beattie completely lost up front would have had an impact. Did we even have a shot in that first half? Had we been given the penalty when Walker was brought down it might have been a different story but I think the team reflected the fans who reflected the team. We were poor.

If we end up going to the play off final under Danny Wilson I would expect a 4-4-2 line up with an attacking emphasis and we fans will have had long enough to forget about missing out on automatic to get behind the team.

Personally, I think we might just make the auto spot...

Yep, Blackwell has to accept part of the blame, we'd been excellent taking the game to PNE in both semi's then he reverted to type for the final. Admittedly we missed Hendo and Wardy, and Halford wasn't fit but we did go out with a whimper.
