I was thinking about this earlier and Swiss seemed to post the same view as me in another thread. Considering Beattie actually looked a threat for the first time since coming back yesterday, would he be useful to have around next season? I think, given a full pre-season with the team and providing he stays cheap, he'd be worth keeping.

The likes of Kevin Phillips are still around and doing ok so I think given a full training regime and a few friendlies to gain some more game time to get his sharpness back, Beattie could bag a few and get plenty of assists for us. He was unlucky that he came back when we had such an effective strike partnership in Cressy and Ched so hasn't had chance to get match sharpness back. Almost every time he's come on a game's been won and we've played the ball around our back four. Not exactly what a striker thrives on. He did get some good clearances in from opposition set pieces though.

Yesterday was the first time we've really been chasing a game and got the ball up to him and he managed to get a good assist and could have scored barring a good save. If we got some pace out wide or in midfield, I see no reason why a Beattie and Cresswell partnership couldn't work.

So, would you keep him or get rid?

Its a No for me I'm afraid... if there was a 'Yes, but only if we don't go up AND he plays for peanuts' option I would have picked that. I believe that a focused and fully fit Beattie (i.e getting a regular starting place) could only be a benefit to a club in League One, unfortunately I don't think he'll get that regular game time and I think his wages could be better used in bringing in promising younger players.

I like the guy, and I can see that having a player of his experience at the club could help younger players bring their game on but for me I think his wage cost will outweigh his actual contribution to on the field benefits. And honestly despite all the "He's a great guy to have around the place" comments from staff and players, on the field is only place it matters.

He came on when we were chasing the game at Charlton too. And was still rubbish.

Unfortunately Wilson's substitute policy hardly gives anyone a chance to get match sharpness - 5 mins here 10 minutes there - Wilson has totally mismanaged Beattie since he returned"!!

id defo keep him.
we all know what he`s capable of,and at 33 theres a couple of years in the tank.
The bloke just needs a goal to get his pecker up.
I cant think why we`d want away with him to be honest, next seasons going to be tough to bring players in,whatever league where in,i think it makes sense to keep him.

Unfortunately (cause he's popular with Blades) it's a no for me. Use his wages to get a good upcoming striker. It will be the no.1 choice whatever happens this season.

I'm amazed there are people who would throw more money at Beattie. He looked good yesterday, but on thw whols has added nothing. I have some sympathy for all the strikers who've had limited chance to get going, but you can only judge on what you know.

Highly paid, looking his age and not doing it now or recently. I'd rather gamble on Hoskins who did it in this division last season for a poor team, but not based on anything we've seen from him.

If we want a player like Kevin Phillips, why not just get Kevin Phillips?

No get rid and give the chance and wage to someone else. Gutted to say it but he shoyld never have come back.

BT seemed a completely different player yesterday, he came on and just knew the job he had to do. Another day he'd have had a goal.

I know he came on when we were laying siege to their goal, but it seemed that everyone knew what to do when he came on.

I would also say that it wasn't just BT, it was Cressy and Flynn as well. It was like the rest of the team had been pissing about and then the shit just got serious. Macca raised his game, O'Halloran slotted in better on the wing, Lowton started getting forward.

But I thought BT stood out, he went where the ball was going and the ball was going to where he was. His little glance across to where Lowton was running to just as the ball came in through the air was clever. Many strikers would've headed for goal, but he saw Lowton and just nodded it into his path.

So why would I give him another crack based on one substitute cameo?

Well exactly because of the above. He showed once again that he is a much better striker than this division, he has tonnes of experience and if he is able get a full preseason under his belt, then get him on a 1 year renewable deal.

If he's cheap enough for us, then lets get him, perhaps get him on a coaching role as well. The youngsters will gleam a heck of a lot from him - Philliskirk and Tonne in particular.

Would I start him at Exeter on Saturday - Abso-fecking-lutely

There's no wonder he loves us...:)

Another couple of hundred grand down the toilet (or in his bank), no goals, no threats on goal, no nothing - then 20 minutes of effort and we're thinking about chucking more money into his pension pot.

I'd start him next week though.

Ha Ha I know, its a bit daft, but experience is priceless and if we can get him playing regularly and in form then its almost a no brainer... unless he's way outside our wage budget

So close to my opinion I could've written that myself. He hasn't done anything much before yesterday, although his link-up play has still been strong, but, as I said, we haven't really had him on the pitch when we've been playing in a way that would suit him. Much like we've changed our game this season and Ched flourished, I think with a full pre-season behind him and a regular start in an attacking Wilson team, we could see Beattie's proper second coming.

I may be living in dreamland but it could save us spending a bit on a forward when we've got somebody of his calibre already here.

As garbage as he's been this season, if we can get him on cheap enough wages, I'd keep him. Just look at how much of a difference he made yesterday, if he can find that form then he's definitely worth a shout. (And lets face it, barring a good save, he would have scored a really good goal)

I think his wages will be too much though and if thats the case then I would say no, get rid.

Get rid of Beattie.
Just because none of us trust the manager to buy quality, the scouts to see quality etc, doesnt mean an old has been ought to be kept on.

Let him earn his new deal in the play offs, he might be 33 but based on his latest brief appearence he's still got more about him than Porter or that sprinter from Bolton.

Need to see where we are and who we have left before this decision is made.
Let's see after Satdi and if we are involved in a few more games - let's see after that

we could have had Kevin Phillips last season.. apparently it was all sorted out (by Ted Hemsley by all accounts) but big Kev wouldn't sign the cheque and then we went and got that guy from Wolves instead (forgot his name.. memorable huh)
if BT gets the goal that gets us promoted then you'll all be saying different.. we haven't really seen BT play yet.. hopefully saturday was a glimpse of him getting back to his best

We could get Messi if Kev would sign the cheque. It'd be a big cheque mind, but the point holds.
