Outgoing? SANDER BERGE ON WAY OUT ?

On Monday night the camera panned in on Sander at the final whistle with a huge grin on his face chatting with a Watford player.
Yeah I think it’s probably Berge’s biggest weakness. You don’t need every player in a team to be that leader but you need a few against Watford outside of Baldock I couldn’t name you one.

Ramsdale?

Fair does.
However we only sold after the player tried to force the move to Arsenal. (And also admitted that he was going to down tools unless he got it)
We were happy to retain him otherwise.

Norwood has his flaws, but he definitley is a leader and a competitor.
Sorry don’t agree, pointing to where someone else is doing his job does not make you a leader.
If he is a leader he should take responsibility in the middle of the park and control the centre circle but he sits too deep.

I know we give him the armband but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him really get into it with a teammate. I’m sure he offers lots of advice and is a good older pro but there’s something to be said for having those teammates you just wouldn’t want to cross

Just seen wet spam have signed Cornet from Burnley for 17.5m. Berge should be shipped out if anyone offers anywhere near that for him. Cornet is a decent premier league player and Berge diddn't exactly pull up any trees int premier league.

I'm a fan of Berge but don't think he's worth what we paid for him now.

That was Cornet's release clause value so not a true sense of his value. That said, nobody bid higher.

You would think that Berge was world class with the way some on here make up excuses to defend him. Yes he has had injuries but the game has passed him by except for a handful of games when he has played well. We have him long enough to make a reasoned judgement on his performance. The critical piece that is lacking in his game is that he does not demand the ball enough. Ah well players need to find him with the ball....yes but he has to be more visible and demanding. He has skill but his influence on games is intermittent.
Compared to MGW he has been disappointing.

What can be done if player nor manager can't find best form/place for him? Can we just hope that one of the new faces will be a key that opens all Berges locks?

This thread would be a lot shorter if Berge would be same level with Fleck and Norwood and we could just write him off.

Berge has done virtually nothing to develop himself since being here , despite Hecky telling us that he's sat down with him + told him to pull his finger out + affect games by becoming more assertive.
I really can't understand players like Berge who have talent + are young enough to improve but simply won't drive themselves up to the next level.
It is so frustrating for us fans.
Surely he realises that to improve , all he has to do is acquire the kind of desire or "will to win" which he watched MGW display last season.
He should be telling himself
"I'm gonna burst through the lines carrying the ball , coz I know I can do it"
Or
"I'm 6'5" and I am NEVER gonna lose another heading duel".
Or
"When we get a corner , Norwood & Fleck can fuck off , I am gonna demand to take them"
But he's just not got that in his mentality + if it can't be coached into him , he's destined to stay miles within his own potential.
And as for dem Blades , I wonder what the £63m+ we invested in Berge , Brewster & McBurnie is now worth ?
It's a cruel business.

It has always felt, that Berge needs to bought into the game. Which is how it is for some players. It's a question of whether his output is worth that investment from the team and he has only recently been playing as an inside forward. He kicked on towards the end of last season, with Basham back in the team, who would regularly carry the ball into that inside right area.

This thread was started within less than a year of Berge signing for us. 😄

I don't really understand this. He plays the role he's asked. Sometimes extremely well. He's extremely competitive and clearly desperate to win.

Tell you what, he might not be a world beater (yet) but for 25 million ish he would be a really good buy for a Prem' club

This is another example - not enough players zipping around in front of him, those behind him not passing to him.

Once again, everyone else is the problem, but not Berge.
It's possible that with loads of players zipping around that Norwood would also be class, in fact it's more than possible cause I've seen it with my own eyes in this league.

All players look better when they have others taking a bigger share of the load. Like you, I'd play Sander further forward because that is where I've seen him play his best games for us. That's not to say he can't be a world beater deeper, but he simply hasn't done that in 2 1/2 seasons

Usual suspects out whenever Berge dares not to a smash a hat trick, complete 10 rampaging runs and single-handedly dominate the midfield.
That might have some merit, should he at any point in his career with us have scored a hattrick, completed 10 rampaging runs or dominated a midfield.

There's one of us using hyperbole here, and it's not me. ;)

That’s quite a bar to set him!

We get "best player in the league", "cheat code at this level" and "if he were English he'd get in the England squad" (all genuine quotes though that last one might be paraphrased).

Yet we shouldn't actually expect him to do anything on match day. Cool.
Now THATS a strawman…

He does get a lot of focus, you can say he should be able to manage it, but maybe criticism affects his game. He's got used to being loved and there's a lot of expectation. Just hope he continues to provide us with exciting football like he has done so far, mostly.
