Outgoing? SANDER BERGE ON WAY OUT ?

If Brentford were willing to agree a deal with Hull for Keane lewis potter, which is worth up to £20m with all the add ons and clauses…… then surely £22m is much more of a sensible investment for an international player, who has already played in the top flight??

It’s a shame if he goes really, but if he wants to leave then we are going to struggle to twist his arm to stay. Top flight football is where he wants to be, in order to boost his international chances….

Leicester I’m not sure are looking to pay such a substantial fee at the moment… but the Brentford knocking I don’t get, because they have shown willingness to spend big for their targets.

I understood that Berge wants to switch club so all we can do is wait for acceptable offer and wish him goo luck.
I bet there is lots of players we can afford and who are making impact, which shouldn't be hard as we are now relying to: Fleck, Osborne and Norwood.

Hasn’t the original source to these Leicester and Brentford rumours been rubbished already.

All the other articles are copy and paste crap based on that.

Hecky has already said, and I actually trust Hecky which is a nice change that Sander will not ask for or force a move. So he stays unless a large offer comes in.

I don’t doubt he sees himself playing above the championship but he did also credit United and Hecky with him making good progress last season in a recent interview.

Let’s be positive and keep him.

We’re already looking at being blessed to have seen MGW in a blades shirt, I for one don’t want to see Sander develop elsewhere and think what could’ve been if he’d not left us too early.

He plays for Norway, who are ranked far lower than say, RND’s Wales.

He looked like he couldn’t cope with the premier league at the first attempt.

I don’t think they are great adverts for £20m + players.

Look, you just don't understand Brentford's business model. I am sure one of their fans will be along soon enough to explain it to you.

If Leicester were to be one of the interested teams, would it not be worth exploring if we could get Hamza Choudhury as part of the deal.

He has just a year left on his deal. He’s 24 also.

Can’t help but think he could solve a few problems for us.

He plays alongside Norwood and does the role we thought Berge would do. You have Fleck and Coulibaly in there too.

You then decide to deploy Doyle further forward as one of your number 10
options that Pep seemed to fancy and you add Khadra.

Team looks no worse overall and you’ve got a healthy fee into the club.
When was the last time Choudhury played a first team game? 3 or 4 years ago? And that is out of his own personal choice. Presume there may be underlying reasons for this. A heck of a take to swap your best player for him and some cash. But also a very Utd thing to do.

He played 12 games in all comps for Leicester last season

You can make the case for Berge being a 20m player. He's a unique talent, he has the skill/size combination I think I have only ever seen in Ibrahimovic. I think his problem is he is set on being a defensive midfielder. He's just not that good in that role. He isn't assertive enough, doesn't take control of a game, nor does he offer the defensive protection an elite level DM is expected to provide.

For him to play DM he either has to go to a team playing a double pivot which limits his options, or he is looking at a relegation battle and potentially ending up in the same situation he is currently in. He really needs to commit to the AM role and put another season of that on tape.

Good post - it’s worth remembering that the rest of the football world knowall this, and it looks like nobody who’s qualified thinks he’s worth anywhere near £20m.

Well they won't do considering we've ruined him
He's never been a defensive midfielder or wing back in a million years, it's taken our management two and a half years to figure that out, when all they had to do was click on YouTube

He played his entire career as a DM before we signed so what the hell are you on about!

A defensive midfielder that spent most of his time breaking forward, he didn't do much defending because he can't do it

You do realise that before he joined Utd, he played for 4 seasons with Genk as a DM in a double pivot and also plays there for Norway don't you JJ?

A DM doesn't always have to do a huge amount of defending. You do realise that don't you??

He's almost always played in a 4231 as part of the 2 at previous clubs and also for Norway.

As long as there's a pure ball winner/destroyer next to him then that's still probably his best position.

Unfortunately we don't play like that, and probably never will, so I'm still a bit perplexed about why we signed him for the amount we did.

Yes, but he still moved forward, and still looks better going forward than defending

And in a team that can defend and isn't deliberately conceding possession like we did in the Prem, he might have looked better in it.

But in our team he isn't a good enough defender to play that position

That's exactly my thoughts
He isn't part of a sound defensive structure at the Lane, when we are under pressure for two minutes you just know a goal is coming, but some other teams can just shut the shop up and defend all day.
He might have been able to shine in that role if we had him in our first season in the Prem. But then again, he did have ample time to prove himself.

He has been able to show something whilst he's been pushed further forward however.

Maybe we've found a new role for him, his old role at Genk involved him getting forward, but he probably had the cover behind, but with us that defensive role was his main responsibility

And he just can't do it IMO, not for us anyway.
He looks far better when he's playing further forward
