Whilst we seem to be well down the road with the Swedish/Bosnian international, when you look at the refreshed list of out of contract players, it does make you think the rest of the recruitment is going to be loans.

Here is what I see as limited, senior and possible remaining options with no fee attached who are realistic (eg I doubt Ben Foster, Lorus Kanus would come to second tier to compete with Wes and I’ve avoided plucking some random uncapped foreigner would not get a visa) and not above 30:

Goalkeeper - Alex Smithies (Cardiff), Jamal Blackman (Hudds), Zander Clark (St Johnstone)

Centre back - Hördur Magnússon (CSKA Moscow, formerly Bristol City), Naby Sarr (Hudds), James Lawrence (St Pauli, ex-Arsenal youth), Aapo Halme (Barnsley), Philippe Sandler (Feyenoord, ex-Man City), Andre Wisdom (ex-Derby, unattached)

Midfield - Jean-Michel Seri (Fulham, but wages?), Carel Eiting (Hudds), Tom Rogic (Celtic), Romaine Sawyers (Stoke), Charly Musonda (Chelsea)

Forwards - Tom Lawrence (Derby), Ojo (Liverpool), Erik Botheim (Krasnodar, Norway U21 Capt), Jordon Larsson (Spartak Moscow, Sweden Intl)

The latter two both released by Russian clubs from their existing deals.

Some options but not sparse.

I’m sure a few more younger ones will be available but this is what leads me to believe it will be loans and we’ll be reluctant to be paying fees much.

And some on here STILL believe we will be favourites for promotion? Not without recruitment ,we wont, and even then it depends on who.

Nice bit of research Champers. There’s definitely some players in there that I’d be more than happy to see come here.
Sandler, Musonda and Larsson would add good depth to the spine of the squad.

I think we have to be careful.

Midfield is a particular worry in terms of contracts.

For instance, it's fine loaning Doyle as long as neither Berge or Coulibaly (but neither have given me much confidence that they want to stay here) leave, but we've got Norwood, Fleck and Osborn with contracts running out this summer.

We desperately need permanent signings through the door. It gets more desperate every year.

This.

We're looking at the last season we have a recognised spine of a team. Unless we get some investment from somewhere, it's difficult to see where we go next

Lolley, Laryea, Panzo and Mighten all available from us on loan if you promise not to ruin them with hoofball?

We'll keep kicking the can down the road as long as the ownership situation is uncertain and that means loans loans loans
Loan strategy means our transfer strategy.
It involves keep making unrealistic requests to people, (to either the club in question or the player or both) for a gimme, which they are obviously not prepared to entertain, over and over again, until the last week, when we get the barrel scraper out.

Loans seem a sensible approach given the youngsters we have aren’t ready and neither is it clear who is going to make it or not.
Loan better quality than we could bring in, and if we don’t get promoted we can assess how the kids got on in league one and fill the gaps.
I see logic in this approach, also you’re talking as if Norwood, Osborn and Fleck will be retiring. We could still extend them for another 2 years if we decide we need them in the Great Reset.

Loans seem to have worked very well for other promoted teams.
Apart from M.G.W. we seem to be having difficulty attracting even players on loan, how many times have we been allegedly in for players and they,ve chosen to ply their trade elsewhere? The loan system is good but we have to "sell" the club to prospective signings,we don't appear to be doing that very well.

Mmmm, my guess is we’re busy trying to get loan players on the cheap, by
haggling over the loan fee and wages, whilst other clubs with ambition just come in, pay the asking price and do the deal.
It’s generally about money at the end of the day, even in the loan market.

I can't wait to watch our 33 year old midfield duo of Norwood and Fleck in League 1

Which top loan deal have we missed out on?

Fleck and Norwood will be coming up against younger, fitter and quicker players with pace.M.G.W. showed how it should be done.

Also maybe players agents probably looked at our second season in the P.L and saw us become the worst P.L. team in history.

The big worry is that we'll find ourselves in finance problems with only 5 senior players on the books.

Players like MGW won’t be available until the very end of the loan window, after PL squads have been announced and once they can see all the offers on the table.

I think Heckingbottoms long term plan is to promote players from within the academy. I believe he sold this policy to the ownership to get the job in the first place.
There are a lot of talented players who are maybe not quite ready for first team football, but if he doesn’t want to block their path, loans are surely the way to go?

This is a problem though because you don't normally get several first team league players from an elite Premier League academy from a year group, and we play in the academy league 1(ish) equivalent. If that is the plan, and they're not good enough, then we're in deep trouble.

My suspicions about this happening with this group arise from the fact is that no one is trying to steal them.

I know your modus operandi is to be on the wind up, but taking it at face value:

None of them could get in your team and you finished just one place ahead of us.

How is borrowing them for our team going to make us go one step further?

Best we could do would be to sign your first teamers who drop down the pecking order due to new signings but even that is unlikely.

We already have your first choice left back. The midfielder we'd want from your 21/22 team belongs to Man U. Yates in the only central midfielder that belonged to you. Zinkenargal just moves to your owners other club. Your main centre forward belonged to Villa and Johnson is your star player.

I'd be amazed if we had any dealings from you. It's far more likely you'd come for Lowe but I doubt you'd pay what we'd want for Berge.

Jesus.... Yawn. Some of you are so unbelievably negative. You could moan about us winning the Champions League. Glass isn't half empty, it's been smashed.

Are you like this in your every day lives?!

We should be winning the World Cup by now! 😂
