It could still be back on once they get a new manager, apparently thats why he couldn't come as they sacked Hutchings when he was in contact with us.

....worth a punt? Free Agent!

Cotterill joined the Swans in January 2010 from Sheffield United for a then club record fee of £600,000 after a loan spell at the Liberty Stadium.
The 24-year-old made 21 appearances in his first season but played just 16 times last season and also went on loan to Portsmouth.
Cotterill, who has won 19 caps, has not appeared for the Swans this season.
The Cardiff-born player began his career as a trainee with Bristol City before he moved to Wigan Athletic for a fee of £2m in August 2006.
He made just 18 Premier League appearances in 18 months for the Latics before joining Sheffield United in July 2008 after a loan spell at Bramall Lane.

Definitely, I liked Cotterill tbh and if Quinn does go, we could have Flynn on the left and Cotts on the right

It would bring some much needed pace, running to the byline and crossing etc, although Tuesday night we did look quicker on the break, creating options as we broke

Send the one from Wolves back - if we haven't already - and it's cost neutral. Keep Squinny and have four CM options, him, MD, KMac, LW.

Absolutely. Not a premier league player by any stretch, but would be very useful in This league

There's a definite trend with Cotts - come in, impress, go off the boil, leave. I may have missed go out on loan before leaving.

A shame, because when he was on his game he was fantastic - and I think a lot of his off-games were down to the system not playing to his strengths. He was never going to be a battler.

Too good for this league, and I doubt he left us with fond memories.

The way I remember it was come in, impress, go off the boil for a few games, get frozen out of the squad despite replacements performing poorly, impress when called upon again at a crucial point of the season, leave.

Still only 24. He'd have been in the youth team when DW was at Bristol City - made his debut the season after DW left. Were we able to afford him, I'd definitely bring him back.

But wherever he goes, at whatever level, he ends up on the bench at best. Jonathan Stead is just the same. It can't all be Blackwell's fault, surely? Oh, hang on...

Don't need him. Three of our four goals the other night came from right wing area crosses, passes or runs. How many have we got from that area this season? Next time you watch just look how many different people supply those. Even the OGs ched has got from there. Wilson is developing footballers who are comfortable when having to cover or change position it would be hard work for Cotts to be developed like that.

Tend to agree. With Lowton at right back, we don't want a Cotts-type player in front of him. Willo dovetails well, whereas I reckon Cotts would leave Lowton exposed as well as negate his attacking freedom.

I have a memory of Cotts tracking back towards Naughton and getting completely in his way, not what you call dovetailing, this allowed Chis Eagles to cut in and score a cracker.

Care to elaborate?

On a couple of fronts ,Blackwells treatment of him (one of the reasons Naughton wanted away) he was bullied at training and on the pitch mainly due to him being the closest one to shout at and also Blackwells legendary non use of wingers. We had Cotteril ,Dyer, Quinn and Treacy available for some games but he would rather play Halford or Naughton or Cresswell or anyone else who would cover the full backs and get the ball forward quick instead of passing or taking players on. With those players under the present manager playing in position we would have some team. Can't understand why Halford was never tried in centre mid.

I think my favourite was Newcastle when he switched the legendary wing man Jordan Stewart to the right wing rather than bring Cotts into the action. Spent 15 minutes like this before Cotts came on and created three reasonable scoring opportunities in the quarter of an hour he was allowed.

Ah yes... I was treated to Jordan Stewart's right-wing efforts at close range. May as well have stuck Derek Dooley's statue out wide and tried to bounce the ball off its head.

No thanks, wouldn't fit into our team for too reasons:

- doesnt have the work ethic
- cant cross a ball for the strikers

We don't need pretty wingers who have just one trick, we need players who can add something

i really wanted cotts to be a sucess in much the same way i wanted billy biglegs to do well in a united shirt
i had to accept that neither player was ever going to do it for us and i wouldnt use blackwell as an excuse for either of them it is too simplistic

Can't cross ? Have you ever seen him play ?

Yes, I used to catch his crosses on row z of the kop, had to move my season ticket because the ball boy needed my seat

Nowt to do with united or Blackwell, he's been shite for us Wigan and swansea

I found a programme the other day that had one of those insightful interviews with Cotts that revealed he drove a £100k plus Aston Martin at the age of 21. Now, without going off track too much, a developing player who'd proved fuck all on a consistent basis had made his fortune already. Could this stunt a player's hunger? I doubt we'd fit his wage aspirations.

As a player I liked his pace but never thought he was brilliant. His crossing was inconsistent at best. Half the time though I also remember bemoaning the fact that we clearly never practised basics like where the strikers would run to in terms of being ready to receive a cross. To me Blackie was all about getting the ball in their third of the pitch and hoping something fell right.

If Cotts was that good he should have thrived at Swansea, but in fact he was hardly a regular in their side.

Last season they loaned him to Portsmouth.

Hardly a great testimonial.

He makes David Carney look good
