Improvements needed in match day atmosphere?

What's needed is an incentive from the club to reward those prepared to stand and sing. Perhaps a honorary title such as Combined United Nominated Team Singers with the initials of our new band of ultras on the front of our matching tee shirts?

I have lots more ideas like this if anyone's interested.

See you next Tuesday…..

Herta lost 4-1 at home in the Derby. And slipped into the relegation zone. In a "you're not fit to wear the shirt" moment, the Herta Ultras "ordered" the players to take their shirts off & leave them in front of the terrace before they went down the tunnel.
That would go down well at the Lane, Norwood gets the arse on when the fans aren’t jizzing in their seats at beating QPR 1 nil.

Obviously, as an English football fan, a lot of Ultra culture is completely alien to me. I was at Italian Serie D about 6 months ago. The home team got beat. At the end, the players "had to" go over to the Ultra Curva & have a few things explained to them. The first guy was unceremoniously told to fuck off to the changing rooms. Eventually, the Ultras decided on one player they could do business with. He was "allowed" to approach the fence & the debrief began. It got more & more civilised & friendly as things were got off chests. Once the deal had been sealed, the player came back to the other players standing a respectful distance away & told 'em the details. The Ultras let the rest of their Pyro off & both fans & players applauded each other.

Mad, alien to me, but utterly fascinating.

The odd 3pm Saturday kick off would work wonders tbh.

There’s also still a level of animosity against the club and owners bubbling under the surface.

With the big speaker system we have why not crank up some ear drum popping crowd noises through them.

Just play a noisy crowd loop for all of the 90 mins

They did drop in some loud crowd noise during playing the video on the big screen pre game at the Reading match.

We need a standing kop, end of. It's not rocket science but because of Hillsborough it's still toxic even though it's far safer than standing in seated areas. But also the club could do more too. The flashing lights on and off and fireworks was quality, we need more of that type of thing. As fans we could create our own anthem that is more like the one in the psv clip, we can still have the greasy chip butty of course.

Also people on the kop just need to sing more! Apart from the back few rows too many don't any unless we've just scored, if you're on the kop you should be singing in my view.

Improvements needed in match day atmosphere?

Before I start, I must state that there are many aspects of the manufactured match day atmosphere that I, and many fellow fans, find totally cringing. I am not advocating ‘happy clappers’ like at Leicester, half time cheerleaders, massive pyrotechnic fire disasters, or the club and the fans spending thousands of pounds in the pursuit of the American razzamatazz. But there must be ways in which Bramall Lane, especially for lunchtime kick offs, can be made to feel less humdrum and for us to capture some continental ‘joie de vive’ during our matchday experience.
Below is something to debate and discuss. I do hope the club will at least read the below and for a relatively little outlay can implement some of the ideas.

There was a questionnaire circulated by the club asking the views of the fans with regard to safe standing, what has happened to this? If it were to be implemented how? As seems likely the development of the Kop area is likely to be delayed or shelved so any developments are some way off but this could be implemented relativity quickly, but where and how?
In my view the most obvious place would be the John Street corner, currently linked to the family stand but could be adapted?? Even if it was not converted to safe standing, it could still be allocated and see the creation of a section to anyone who wanted to ‘sing’ – much the same as Celtic have done with the ‘Green Brigade’. A ’Shoreham Boys’ section if you will
This also allows a great deal of space for flags banners etc as at the moment the whole area is bland, drab, lifeless and dull.
Enough of the truly ambitious stuff. More mundane, what happened to the flags that were a part of the match day experience? Passed overhead etc they just disappeared?
Even more mundane, and apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, what has happened to the Flags that were part of the kop? The fan paid for ‘Billy Sharp’ flag – what has happened to that?
Look I am not saying this is all the fault of the club as the fan group at Forest ‘Forza Garibaldi’ have worked wonders at the City Ground and if a group of likeminded Blades could be as proactive then things might happen, but could not have done what they have without the support of the club? I doubt it.
Recent games against Barnsley, and QPR have shown that even with 26,000 Blades in the ground it can often feel very flat. We need the club to be a catalyst for the creation of a much better match day atmosphere at the ground. Is it time for the excellent social media team to expand its activities and engage in the creation of a better match day experience?

Good post. I agree with the John Street corner been the obvious place for safe standing. I think the atmosphere can be great but not consistent, I would love to see an ultras segment at SUFC after all if Ipswich Town has one Palace etc why can’t we. I get it would have to be a section of the stand because not everyone would be up for it but below is Portman Road 👇🏻. Hopefully Bramall Lane heirachy can give the green light on something similar to this and we can get a movement going at BDTBL. ⚔️.

When you've got threads popping up from so-called Blades, effectively saying that it isn't nice any more to call the pigs (Wendy) pigs, and others agreeing, I'm not surprised that there's little or no atmosphere at the Lane. I sincerely hope that this forum is not, in any way, representative of the Lane attendees. If it is, the club is well on its way to pot and the appearance of paper clackers in the stands is only a matter of time.

Most clubs don't really have much atmosphere anymore, wasn't it a few years ago stoke smashed the decibels record now it's like a morgue, there's only really palace but they sound more like German or Italian fans and I hope we don't go down that route, even Huddersfield last night had drums and shit and I'll admit it created abit of extra atmosphere but if you need a drum to get the crowd going ya might aswell stay at home.

Would you rather us go down the sounding like those watching at the Crucible route? Have you ever actually been to a match overseas?
I have actually,I've been to Barcelona vs Getafe and not necessarily overseas but celtic vs Aberdeen and your point is?

Today is a big game, we’ve played quite well and its still an absolute library. Yes fans will be louder and more excitable when we are constantly attacking but the crowd today has been silent after a solid half of football against good oppo. We aren’t a patch on what we used to be and attendance numbers aside quite poor. Today highlights the need for change. Very drab atmosphere.
Where do you sit ?

As you say, it’s a different culture, not sure why our fans want to copy that. Too cheesy for me.
