Everyone played their part today and I thought Doyle was particularly outstanding. He did his usual terrier impression winning the ball but also played some astute passes out of defence and in the last third also. his workrate was tremendous and I think, along with Neil Collins, he's polished his reputation considerably this season. Hope their many detractors can bring themselves to recognise this.

We are starting to show an air of power and precision now and to come from behind today against a team who were well pumped up for it today, showed we have a streak of determination running through the team nowadays.
Cressy worked so hard today and as usual threw himself in for the second one where one or two may have feared to tread. We need the grafters as well as the artists (McDonald was very impressive once again today).

Flynn once again impressed me with his all round game, he does everything very well and rarely gives the ball away. This kid will do well for us in the future in my opinion.

Harry showed his mettle against Hughes and Burgess, probably the toughest pair of strikers he's faced this season?

It's looking good so far, January will be a test on and off the field!

Doyle was very professional today, nothing spectacular, just did his job. He allowed McDonald to play the pretty stuff and Macca obliged nicely

I still remain to be convinced with Flynn. He looked better in patches today and took his goal really well but he gives little or nothing defensively and unless the ball is played directly to him doesn't look interested. You can tell that he is capable, lets hope he that a run in the team can give him some confidence which others now play with.

Flynn has a long way to go. He needs to play a run of games and get consistent.

Agree that Doyle had a very good game and deserves to keep his place, even though Monty may be fully available again. McDonald is also showing signs of becoming a class act for us. There are many, many players in the Premiership that can't do what he does on the ball. It is sometimes a relief when the ball comes to him as you know he's going to get out of a tight situation and make a sensible pass.

His often poor defensive ability wasn't a big problem today, but it remains his weakness, and the reason why he isn't playing in the Premiership. Is he aware of it himself?

as doyles' biggest critic i am happy to say he played well today.. agree about macdonald .. he creates space from nowhere

Thought all the midfielders played well today. Notts didn't make it easy either. Doyle tends to pass the ball better than Monty, (not sure if the stats back my opinion up) even if he sometimes goes sideways more often. If K Mac was fitter, he would play a higher level. Flynn did well today and took his goal well. He will improve given a run as mentioned above.

Collins for me MOM.

Doyle did well, but I thought McDonald was excellent in the middle of the park. When he has the ball at his feet he shows a touch of class with his array of passing and distribution. He's the one that can open up defenses. Just needs to inprove on his defensive duties and then we have a great midfielder

Thought he played well yesterday (as I have outlined in DB's report thread). It's been a fairly up and down season for him. He has played quite a lot and no dount contributed to us being where we are. Yet he has started in all our four league defeats. Also, we have not lost when he has not started! This obviously does not look good. But twice he has stepped up to the plate and done the defesnive job, after Monty as been injured. He has worked hard since being dropped from the squad (after the Wednesday game) an has taken his chance. He has started all of the last 7 wins (on the bounce) and hence has to be given some credit.

League games with Doyle starting in the team: W 9 D 2 L 4
League games without Doyle not starting in the team: W 4D 3 L 0

Of course this is subjective, as there are too many other variables that could be affecting results. I'd be interested to see goals conceded when he is in the team and not .... if any of the stats buffs have spare time on their hands.

Are you saying that that there are too many variables to accurately gauge one persons worth to a team?

Aren't "League games with Doyle starting" that same as "League games without Doyle not starting"?

:)

No. What I am saying is that looking purely at results and whether someone featured and making an assumption based on that is not wise. For example Doyle has featured in a losing team, from the start, 4 times this season. Yet whenever he is in the team we have not lost. Looks bad on him. But we have not taken into accout standard of opposition (he played in the losses against Charlton and Huddersfield), other players playing in the Blades team, whether the games were home or away etc.

So why does Doyle get the special olle love treatment and beattie doesn't?

Totally agree. It was the 1st time this season I remember our central midfield 2 having good balance and Doyle needs to keep this up. It was was the first time I can think of that Doyle had a good game for us. If we need to lose anyone now to balance the books, let it be Monty now that Ertl is fit
