Great game., I thought. Frustrating as fuck, two teams more or less on par with each other in terms of capability and resurgence. Both teams on new managers and both wanting the playoffs badly. But ...

First half I though we showed exactly where we are in this league. Forest obviously had a decent plan and stuck rigidly to their 3-4-1-2 and pressed us massively. Middlesbrough will be taking note (as if Wilder doesn't already know) that we don't do being pressed and the amount of iffy passes in that first half was bordering on criminal. Fodders pulls of a class save early on and their penalty - my two buddies were in the BLUT tonight and figured it was - look at the replay and see how Spence 'plays' RND like a fucking fiddle. Great nerve again from man-of-the-moment Fodders to guess down the middle which embarrassed a lively Johnson. We did have the win to play for in the second half, despite the fucking Sky commentators sounding like they had a copy of Shoot October 1974 with a poster of Brian 'having said that' Clough open in front of them to spaff their wad all over. Even the studio pundits, louche, slightly effete Jobi McAnuff and the Dawson brother seemed to be urging Forest to win. That lass presenter though. Guilty 'would'.

But second half we flagged again on 55 minutes and Heck hooked Seriki putting ... Osborn on ... ? ,,, in his place and the much lauded return of Jobbo. Instantly we looked better and a more together unit and Forest started to ship a few head shots, one of which is Billy's deserved goal. Yes! We're in front! Don't fuck this up. And yeah, we then went on to push the play up the pitch, making the class mistake of bringing McBurnie on (instead of a defensive midfielder) and they get the corner which sealed our fate. Aside from the fact that on chances, we should have lost this game, to do exactly what we did at Millwall and pick players up is somewhat typical and somewhat unforgivable. McBurnie in those situations is the 'floating marker', tasked with attacking the player who the cross is aimed at. But again, like Millwall, the moment the goalscorer's head hits the ball, he's not even airborne - or in this case, even near the player. The ball zips past him and into the Bramall Lane net. Fucking hell.

We have to learn lessons from the past two matches. Firstly, McBurnie needs to leave. He offers nothing to the club that say, McGoldrick could have done before his injury or even a tired Billy Sharp. And if we are shop windowing him, then it's failing. He's fucking bobbar. Secondly, we have to look at how to deal with teams who press. Pressing is okay, but if you press say, Man City, they draw you in and either play past you into space, or they glide past you leaving you chasing the fart you left spinning. Okay, that's Man City. But dealing with the press can be coached and it's one for McCall to get his skecthpad out. Thirdly, we have to defend setpieces effectively.

Foderingham 9/10: Great early stop and a steely penalty stop. Pick himself these days. Fallowfield? You listening?
Seriki 6.5/10: Fairly solid first start from this lad. Seems to understand the RWB role well, if not yet at the level of Baldock and Bogle, still looks like he has potential
Davies 7/10: Good personal battle with Davis which he seemed to enjoy
Egan 4/10: Fucking nightmare first half and not much to redeem himself in the second
Robinson 8/10: really impressed with him tonight. Showed real levels of focus and dealt with incidents well. Johnson in the second half practically disappeared
RND 6.5/10: Another personal battle with Spencer which he did okay, if looking ragged by the end
Berge 6/10: Quiet first half and slightly better in the second when Norwood went off and he was left to create from deep central positions
Norwood 6/10: Some good (the ping to Seriki) some bad (multiple fluffed passes)
Fleck 6/10: Another decent game, albeit with a typically Fleckeque moment where he's clean on goal and is swiped by their centre forward on the chase
MGW 7.5/10: Another impressive display at times if overplaying it unnecessarily at times. Great assist for Billy's goal and was still at full pelt into injury time closing Forest down
Sharp 7/10: Constantly leaned on by Worrall and fouled by others. He's a professional nuisance but he's our professional nuisance. Well taken goal I'm sure you'll agree Fallowfield.

Osborn 7/10: Instantly got his big boy pants on and caused them trouble down the right.
Jebbison 5/10: Faltering re-debut for him and to me should have ran on goal, drawn the defender then passed. At 2-0 Forest are sunk
McBurnie 2/10: Shite. Winding the ref up and appealing for fouls that aren't fouls are simply fucking bollocks. Grow up you daft fucker. Get attacking and get scoring, or fuck off

Hecky 7/10: A tough game for him and his players and at least we didn't lose, which on balance we could have done.

Perhaps Fallowfield could point out that Billy’s header should have been 6 inches further into the goal to avoid any possible rebound off the post !!
Otherwise mainly spot on as usual recently.

Not sure what you were watching tonight

Wes was great, the back three were no better than a 1982 Three Feathers defence.

Davis for them getting rave reviews?
Davies was head and shoulders. Davis was the best opposing player I've seen this season, strong, fast, went both ways, everything we need. Not sure what you were watching.

Wes 8
JLT 7
Sharp 7
Osborn 7
The rest 6 or below we were fucking shite, back to to old ways of booting it anywhere and gifting goals in the last minute, just not good enough. Promotion teams grind that one out we are also rans. I wouldn't be booking a Wembley hotel if anyone is thinking of it.

Agreed with a lot of that however there's the usual -1 for berge for been berge

Quite worrying that we have been poor for quite a while IMO and scraped result against WBA/Blackburn even though we were the poorer side same again tonight

Im not sure we have played well in a long time bar the 4-0 swansea home game

Davies was head and shoulders. Davis was the best opposing player I've seen this season, strong, fast, went both ways, everything we need. Not sure what you were watching.
I always find Keinan Davis an interesting watch. He always plays outstandingly well against us going right back to a 2-2 draw at Villa Park but never looks like scoring. We’ve played against him 8 times now and he’s never scored.

In fact he’s made 81 career appearances and only scored 5 goals but looks terrific whenever I see him play.

Got to be honest, I didn't realise he'd played that many times against us. He was excellent last night. Imagine him playing alongside Sharp and MGW, he'd be frightening. Everything we hoped Mcburnie would be.

Personally thought Berge, Fleck and Norwood 4 each.
Davis for them was superb ,probably the best away performance at the lane by an away player this season.
Fantastic January loan signing for them, that investment could get them promotion.

My report online shortly - think most of those marks are way too high. Forest were far superior tonight and on another day they win that game comfortably. We had about 15 minutes from 90. I thought the two wing backs looked out of their depth sadly tonight and the midfield had no control. I thought only Wes, Robinson and Ben Davies/Sharp/MGW for 2nd half (those 3) were more than 6/10 - the rest were wasteful on the ball and did not do enough off it.

We have looked really poor for me the last 5 games and even in the excitement of Blackburn, we got away with one. We easily could have had 0 from 9 in the last week where we have probably been 2nd best over this run.

We seemed to have lost the fluency and control and looked a tired mob tonight. I felt we stole a point when they in the end actually really stole the point in literal terms. Weird one but we have to play much better than we have recently if we want to stay in the top 6.e
That's pretty much as I saw it, Pommpey must have been on the ale.

I couldn't believe how many people immediately post-game, and now here it seems, even after sober reflection, thought Seriki was so poor?

I mean, he's at least third choice but all this "completely out of his depth"? He looked ok enough to me, but clearly he should only be used when there are no other options.
Seriki's main problem was his lack of ball control, his first touch was rarely a good one and that's not because of him being young or on his debut, it's one of the most basic things for a footballer that experience really shouldn't make much difference to.

He showed bits of promise attacking when he did get control of it, but even then he often lost control again and overran it.

To be fair, I though Norrington-Davies was just as bad or worse than him.

If its not being young or nervous on his debut what is it then ?

Bloody hell, pommpey. This doesn’t happen often but I agree with every word.

Fantastic finish from Billy have mistake my opinion on sharp for me hating him

Sharp is a fantastic finisher one of the best in the league he was poor for me the first half of the season but has improved since hecky took over , however he doesn't do much else IMO

He doesn't hold the ball up as good as mcburnie or link up play and he certainly isn't as fast as Jebbinosn

If we play with sharp we lose that focal point upfront and it leads to us not controlling games as much hence why we have been dominated recently by WBA/Blackburn/Forest because the ball doesnt stick up top

Its just an opinion Don't know why people get there knickers in a twist I just try and voice an unbias opinion

Decent match to watch, but they were better than us, particularly midfield where Norwood and Fleck were outmanoeuvred and outfought. And after one good match for us against Swansea, Berge has reverted to type for 20 mins at Millwall, and all the match yesterday. FFS go and win the ball and grab the game by the scruff of the neck like Browny and Duffy would have done. Languid and stylish don't cut it against tough opponents like these Sander.
And remember at Forest earlier in the season, we were the better team. That's now been reversed
Think we're about the 8th best team in the league. And I think that's about where we'll finish. So I'm regarding the play-offs as a bonus if we get there.....

We looked what we are at the moment - threadbare. Too many injuries in key positions. Not the youngsters fault but their inexperience showed and two left footers on the right side of defence didn't help- both Osbourne and Davies did ok but were hampered by their position. I agree with you pommps about the MCB sub. I can only think PH was looking for him to defend corners.

Wes 9

Seriki. 3 Woefully out of his depth and it had a definite impact on the match, as shown by how the game completely transformed as soon as he was replaced by a left footed midfielder.

Davies 7 For a left footer I thought he did very well at RCB

Egan. 4 Good god one his worst games

Robinson. 8. Delighted with the player he’s morphed into, excellent right now and undroppable

RND. 4. Some people have been quite positive about him but I don’t see it at all. Jon on the four blades podcast was right, he’s completely average. Tonight he wasn’t even that. Definite pen, if your man gets across make sure you don’t make contact. Drop him for Osborn imo.

Fleck. 7. I thought he did pretty well tbh, especially amongst the absolute chaos of that first half, starting to look switched on and dangerous like he did in those excellent runs of form he had towards the end of previous seasons. Shame about the not finding someone after that drive in the second half but I still think he could be a big big player for us once again.

Berge. 6. One of few players on the first half to give us any sort of control of the game amd whilst he was much quieter than against Blackburn and Swansea he was very unlucky with the ref having it in for him tonight.
Berge is all about the right hand side and for the first hour he had a left footed RCB and Seriki to play with down that flank, so very much having to play with one arm tied behind his back.

Norwood. 4. Yik. Uggh. One of his stinkers. Impressed that Hecky was proactive enough to take him off.

MGW. 6.5. Lot of stuff he tried just didn’t come off and he had a frustrating first half.
However, he takes risk and that touch of class on the goal is exactly why he’s on the pitch.

Sharp. 7 Would’ve been a 4 but for the goal as his general play was poor. Excellent finish and that’s 90% of his job. If Forest had him they’d have been 3-0 up at half time.

Subs: Jebbo 4. Looks decent in general play with his presence and movement, but he blew two big opportunities to play someone in and seal the game

McB 4. One good defensive header but lost the ball weakly and stupidly in the corner. He’s just not a good player is he?

Osborn 9. Changed the game from right wing back, can’t ask for too much more. He looked very good and injected some real quality and purpose into the game for us.
That's how I saw it.

Overall we were poor. Generally out fought and out paced. A quality ball from MGW and a quality header from Sharp gave us a lift. Osborn was energetic when he came on, he did well.
Foderingham 8. Some good saves and a few scary moments but saving the penalty deserves a good mark.
Seriki 5. Worked hard but looked raw. Getting on the same wavelength as other players and being more composed is what he needs to work on.
Davis. 6. Solid enough.
Egan 5. Mixed good with terrible.
Robinson 6. Solid enough.
RND 4. Tries hard but limited in both defending and attacking.
Norwood. 4. A good tackle and a few good passes but not influencing the game.
Fleck 5. Some really good stuff and then anonymous for periods of the game.
Berge 5. Bar a couple of good runs and a shot in the first half he was poor. He doesn't look to get on the ball enough and doesn't attack enough. He is a luxury player. Fine in a dominant midfield but when the going gets tough he doesn't show enough grit or leadership.
MGW. 6....struggled early on but can't be faulted for effort and attitude. Sublime cross for the goal.
Sharp 6. Worked hard and won frees. Well taken goal.
Osborn. 7. Did well.
Jebbison 5. Worked hard and butchered a pass to MGW. Attitude looks good and think he could be the best option to play upfront with Billy.
McBurnie. 4. Not on long but back to pulling and dragging and complaining to the ref. Not the type of character we need. And that is not mentioning the lack of quality and skill.
I agree with all those apart from MGW who i would give 7.5 as the lad never ever stopped and although things didn't always work out for him there were times where it seemed like he was playing them by himself.

And Robbo also a 7

I agree with some of that but he is a goalscorer and that is his job. Another up front could do the job you refer to alongside him.
I value having different views on here but I don’t think many of them could be seen as unbiased !!

Pretty spot on analysis please oh please McBurnie go please go

For me we need to play 2 strikers from now on and let either MGW/N'Diaye roam. When Jebbison came on he occupied another CB which freed up MGW to roam and pick up the ball in the pockets and does what he does best. Putting Osborn gave us energy to get up the pitch more. We had a flat 3 in mid and still looked overran. Berge looked tired. Egan was a shambles. Davies put his head in to stop a goalscoring opportunity for that so well played however he's in and out the team so must be hard for him to get settled. As soon as Norwood come off it allowed us to build play from player to player instead of him just pinging it. RND needs a rest. Jebbison offered running power and pace something which mcburnie doesnt. Jebbison will get better.

Davies was head and shoulders. Davis was the best opposing player I've seen this season, strong, fast, went both ways, everything we need. Not sure what you were watching.

I watched him go past players who should have sussed him after the first 5 minutes. We have a habit of making opposition players look outstanding, even if they aren't.

I agree with all those apart from MGW who i would give 7.5 as the lad never ever stopped and although things didn't always work out for him there were times where it seemed like he was playing them by himself.

And Robbo also a 7
Yeah that is fair enough. MGW shows more heart and willingness than most of our players. Plus he is skillful and creative.

Agree with the report. I actually enjoyed it and thought it was quite nail biting stuff. We made some sloppy passes in the first half straight to them. Sky were having a Forest love in right upto Billy's goal it then turned over to a Billy Sharp Love in till they suddenly put up the stat for late goals by Forest and it was back to the Forest love in again. Then of course McBurnie decides to have a fluffy tea party in the corner and invite the ref to join in a moan. Meanwhile they go up other end and score from a set piece. I would have preferred Ndiaye to McBurnie coming on.

I thought the ref was shocking particularly in the first half. Loudest chant of "your not fit to referee" that I've ever heard on TV and no way was it a penalty. Forest players falling over at the meerest touch. Super Wes again, a point, we didnt lose, 7th today, still in the mix and we've got a patched up team its amazing where we are.

Pause for thought. Just think what a team Hecky/McCall/Lester would have with a fully fit complement of players problably be in the 1/2 spot.
