It all had to come to an end, didn't it? Shame it's against Millwall, because today they weren't much cop to be honest. I did expect us to come away from that game with at least a point from that if not overcome then, given the way we have been playing. But make a few changes to give players a rest and it shows how quickly we regress into a formation and style which is redolent of the disastrous Slav experiment. Bringing in the serially shit Hourihane and trying vainly to squeeze a fart out of McBurnie was always gonna be a tough one and Ndaiye playing on his own without Bogle and MGW shows that todays team was ready to be beaten.

The first half was uncontrolled chaos. Like two boxers slugging punch for punch we just couldn't dodge and jab. Whichever approach we tried it was always broken up by a poor pass or overplaying it and the midfield looked clueless with Hourihane in it. Their keeper only had one stop to make of note and that was Egan's header straight at him. I don't know what is more frustrating - us having chance after chance after chance and squandering them, or us just stopping any vestige of threat. The second half didn't improve things much until Hecky slowly fed us with MGW, Berge and Fleck but by the time that had happened, we'd gifted them a goal and were simply kicking the ball against the garages.

We've done well - but we've dropped points we needn't - 2 versus Hull and three today and that may be the critical difference come judgement day. The elation of Blackburn is quickly forgotten when we make hard work of a shit side like Millwall and come away with fucking nowt. I just hope this honeymoon period isn't over because games are becoming fewer and the window of vague opportunity is closing.

Foderingham 6/10: One dodgy save but there when we needed him for the crosses
Baldock 6/10: Usual Furious George stuff. A decent outing if at some times still shithousy and clumsy
Gordon 7/10: Very impressed. Composed and gets himself about the defence. Has potential
Egan 6/10: Marshalled well, but lost Cooper in the melee
Robinson 7.5/10: Still impressing me with his improved demeanour and footballing capability
Norwood 4/10: Largely ineffective today. A fucking pathetic attempt at lobbing a penalty area full of players. Fucking drop your shoulder, pivot on your hip, get your knee over the ball and volley through the centreline, for fuck's sake. I don't think he's had a shot on target for many seasons now
Hourihane 4/10: Positionally and affectively crap from start to when he was thankfully subbed
Ndaiye 3/10: Missing Bogle and MGW. He simply had no one to play his game with
McBurnie 2.5/10: Simply not good enough as an attacker. I have no fucking idea what he thinks he can do out of the box and as a playmaker. And he was static, caught under the ball with his feet still on the deck for Cooper's header
Sharp 4/10: Had nowt, as usual

MGW 7/10: We looked entirely a different team when he came on but why the fuck not keep Ndaiye on and have him and MGW as inside left/right attackers wih Billy as striker? Surely getting shut of the ineffective and never looking like scoring McBurnie was the better option?
Berge 6/10: Looked capable but nothing he did actually produced
Fleck on for a few minutes

Hecky/Lester/McCall: 4/10: Must do better

They scored and put bodies behind the ball fear football from the fucking « Lions » !!!

You are wrong about McBurnie being the worst player. He is just an easy option for you to pick on. We lost because we gave away a needless free kick and Millwall were successful in blocking our players to allow Cooper have a free header

Is that the only reason we lost - honestly?

Yes, we didnt really create much and neither did Millwall
Ok

Seems a too simplistic view for me.

Resting our two flair players who have been refinding form and fitness , imo, resulted in us not creating the not much you refer to

Hence millwall had very little to do to win the game by also creating their not much you refer to

Millwall knew they would get a chance from Wallace's excellent set plays but we gave away countless free kicks - not just one. It was ridiculous the fouls we kept conceding.

They were always going to get a chance.

The goal was clever play - Sharp does it a lot for us. We have to be stronger and Egan/McBurnie have to meet that. A free header for their most dangeorus player from set plays is inexcusable. Egan needed to power through his man. They were never going to give a free kick.

What concerned me is we created absolutely nothing. I always felt they might get something from a situation but we should have the players to pass through them but noone took responsibility. It was a safe and timid showing from the midfield and attackers. Not sure the defence were that bad outside the goal but we never got beyond them and never turned them round at all.

Really flat performance that was devoid of energy and purpose. We were slow all game. The McBurnie and Sharp combo never works. They were both poor but I felt Ndiaye was even worse. We got nothing at all out of the front 3 in terms of movement, hold up/link or even nusiance factor. Millwall defenders won't have an easier game all season.

Still it's one game. We need to play our best players for the run in as not sure the rotating your best 2 creative players is going to see us getting the necessary results. they have had a rest now - so need to play a run of games.

Pretty much spot n pommps, it’s still passing me off the amount of stupid, needless free kicks we manage to give away. As soon as an opposition player wriggles past us we seem to nudge, tussle or pull them back when there’s no danger whatsoever. RND for their goal is a prime example. Add to that the number of needless yellows and suspensions could also become a factor towards the end of the season.

UTB !

We need to have enough players for the play offs. Aiming for the play offs is more realistic than aiming for the automatic spot so we need to be careful that we could be running on empty before the end of the season

Harsh on McBurnie to mark him lower than the others, however, his first 5 mins summed him up for me. Lost out to a defender with the ball ricocheting off him, him the shittest of shit volleys over the bar, fouled a defender. That’s a microcosm of him as a player.

Thought they targeted Gordon and he panicked on the ball a lot.

MGW and Berge subs at 0-0 with them not sat behind the ball would have yielded a goal, unfortunately they had already scored so it didn’t.

Millwall were crap, we were crapper. That’s about it.

On to the next 2 home games where we could do with 4 points minimum.

I'd rather get enough win for the playoffs! Automatic has gone - we are 8 points off Bournemouth and they have 2 in hand with only 13 left for us.

No good having rested player if we finish 7th-10th! Today was a more winnable game than Forest and Boro for me - so was surprised he changed it again so much being honest.

Fleck, Berge and Gibbs White have barely played recently. I was surprised he took out both the latter two and it showed as we created absolutely nothing really until MGW came on.

I bet he does not rotate as much again as showed we offered nothing attacking wise and Millwall coped with us easily.

Let's see if Paul's calculated risks will work.

McBurnie is McBurnie but he should have got a 5 because he, at least, was McBurnie. I don't expect much from him but there were players out there who did less.

Robinson - well, I have in the past reported our manager to Amnesty International for even playing him in games where it is torture to see the poor fellow so out of his depth, but you are quite right, he has improved immensely in the last few weeks and now he may be better than the L1 centre back I had him down as.

Norwood - you're right about that "lob", Does he think he's the reincarnated spirit of George Best or something?

Millwall gave a very typically Millwall performance and I don't mind saying I admire that. Runs have to end, now to start another good one.

This. The goal happens, although the free kick is a frustrating one.

We were shit going forwards and you can blame a few for that today. Some get a pass for previous input, some don't

Thanks for review first match not seen in ages apart from 20 min before half time whilst waiting for my kids to climb a wall at Gulliver's theme park managed to see a stream.

Don't get these people defending McB. Appreciate it's their opinion but saying it wasn't just him being poor it was rest of team as well is just what it is a simple excuse. He has been not very good every time he plays regardless of those around him. Sounds like another chance he was given by Hecky and he is just not right for the Blades. We have said this about other players before and largely they went so why can't some people see he just doesn't fit or prove the doubters wrong.

Agree 👍

McBurnie is a very poor striker at this level. At best he is league two. He offers us nothing. He is slow and doesn’t score goals . 18 million quid! What a waste of money. I would suggest that Jebbison at 18 years old is a better bet. At least he can run whereas McB just ambles.
Be careful his mates will be saying you're being personal, you dont like him and he's a great striker 🤣🤣

This - totally

Well said

Enjoy your views, first time I've ever felt the need to comment.

The 2.5 for Mcburnie is wide of the mark. I agree he's not been anywhere near good enough, but he was better than sharp today.
Sharp was constantly throwing himself to the floor and fluffed the half chances he got.
Billy has miles more credit in the bank, but if any of our front two today deserved a 2.5 it was Bill. The ratings should be for their performance on the day, not previous endeavours.

The Millwall goal was caused by the blocking in the area and Egan losing his man. Cooper comes running in unmarked to a free header. If you're stood still in the box marking your player and someone comes over the back of you unmarked, it ain't your fault. Egan was clearly given the job of dealing with Cooper, something he fails with every time we meet them.
