I was asked to plot our season against Fulham in 17/18 - the season where Fulham started fairly poorly and then went on to 88 points, 3rd place and won the Playoffs.
If they'd beaten Birmingham in their last game of the season they would have gone up in the autos ahead of Cardiff.

I did the graph after the Swansea game and I have updated it here. I have also made improvements to the colours and the line style and I think it shows the comparison much better. In fact I think the similarity from the start to the present is absolutely amazing.

After 17 games in 17/18 Fulham had 20 points, and then Game 18 was the classic 5-4 Game at Bramall Lane. Fulham then roared away to 88 points, 3rd place and won the play-offs.

After 17 games (Blackburn Away) this season we had 19 points. Slav then drew with Coventry and won at Reading before Hecky took over.

The graph shows the Fulham 17/18 results as a dashed line, and this season for us, with Slav and Hecky's games in a different colour. What I find amazing is that Slav's results for us were almost the same as his Fulham 17/18 results, right up until he left. At almost the same point the upturn started - Slav's last 2 results with us produced 4 points - and Hecky has since almost exactly matched Slav's Fulham line. We are currently on 53 points and Fulham were on 55 after 32 games. It shows that runs like this can be sustained. If we can get close to Fulham 17/18's 88 points we will probably also be 3rd - but maybe Bournemouth can fall apart for us.

Interesting, I wonder if Slav had got the wingers he wanted we would have still gone on a run. Wes was alluding to nothing really being that wrong with SJ in charge but implied it was more to do with getting used to the changes SJ wanted to make. I do think the lack of pre-season played a part in that.

Wow those lines are incredibly similar. However I would say that I never got the impression that we were about to turn it around under Slav (or certainly not in the short term), whereas under Hecky I quickly got the impression we were on our way back. UTB

SJ needed the January transfer window to come around sooner. Really he needed those wingers in the summer, getting them in January would have been too late.
