Comments please as I'm a little bit confused about what I watched today from Berge. I don't think I can remember him giving the ball away or making a misplaced pass once in the game.
Furthermore, his precision passing was superb, how fleck missed converting his ball at the end only he knows!
Berge I don't think ran today, he jogs and glides around, very assured, quality..
However, despite his yellow card I don't think he made a single tackle/challenge, does anyone agree?
For me he needs to drive with the ball more and take people on, he's a big lad, he's getting game time now, we might just have a match winner on our hands, if the key to unlock his ability can be found , he could dominate games....
What do you think?

Its one of 2 things for me:

1) His hammy still isn't 100% and he's trying to hide it
2) He doesn't want to be here

Maybe both. He did some decent things today, but there was times he could have bust a gut to get to a loose ball first and chose not to.

He stopped one of their breakaways on our left first half and won us the ball back.
Steady game for me, he improved as the game went on, decent effort on goal late on when he pushed forward more... Way more to get out of him than we're seeing so far I think..I still prefer Norwood in the deep playmaker role though.

I would say hammy above wanting away. If he wants away then the best thing to do is be his best self

For me he needs to drive with the ball more and take people on,

I felt there were numerous times when it was exactly this. Not so much what he did do but what he didn't. i was begging for him to run at their defence, we know he's got the skill to do it, really frustrating.

100% this - i would play him with Norwood , him being further forward.

I thought he was OK-to-decent today. Our best midfielder, though the bar wasn't particularly high.

He kept the ball well, I can only think of one single misplaced pass and he got it back immediately anyway if I recall correctly. I imagine his pass completion/accuracy was the best on the pitch. Didn't do anything spectacular but did smuggle the ball through tight spaces to find a player in a forward position on multiple occasions (mainly MGW) but it ultimately led to nothing.

Decent effort from outside the box and then a really good cross into Fleck who couldn't sort out his feet in time - that could've been the winner.

Think we all want to see more of that driving forward with the ball at his feet, but in his defence, opportunities to do that today as our deepest lying midfielder against well organised opposition were few and far between.

That's the conundrum; as a CDM he's steady, sees a lot of the ball and keeps it moving without being spectacular (which some will criticise him for). When he plays further up, he'll see less of the ball (which he will also get criticised for) but when he does see it out toward the right hand side he has more opportunity to burst forward to get a cross in, shoot or get on the end of something. Still not sure what his best position is to be honest.

Wherever he plays, I would like to see him take a few more risks in possession going forward, both in terms of dribbling and in his passing.

If he doesn't want to be here then he needs to start putting himself in the shop window, if I was a scout I would have left at half time

Kids a rolls Royce

I now get the rolls Royce comparison.

You tell all your mates you got one but never drive it and spends most of it's time in the garage with a cover over it.

If you do have to drive it, you stick to below the speed limit, never push it to its max and never take side roads or country roads in fear of getting a few specks of dirt on it

Not a fan of quality then ?

I think the general feeling is we all think he's got some quality, his end product could improve by being played further forward, he has a decent shot and carries a goal threat. Maybe he needs a hod carrier to scrap and win the ball for him - then let him do his stuff. Not sure who that might be in our squad, perhaps fleck or osborn...? Norwood behind him I agree is a good call, and, despite a not too confident start Hourihane has got better and better each game - we can't play them all but the squad is looking like it has different qualities and might just take us all the way.
Since my first Play off final v Crystal Palace I've been to them all and seen us disappointed every time - this year even given our rocky start we might just have the luck with us, if we end up getting to a final at Wembley then Berge, Norwood would not look out of place! Keep going Lads

Overstating it a bit, going forward I thought it was his most Coutts (Praise be to Paul Coutts) like game.

Defensively, maybe his size counts against him. He'd have to be supernaturally mobile to be able to contain the hyper-agile athletes he's regularly up against.

If he had the all round agility to go with his size he'd be a midfield Haaland and I'm pretty sure the only time we'd ever see him at the Lane would be when we played Man City.

He just doesn't like Berge......repeatedly states it

Best midfielder on the pitch today ,he never gave the ball away 1,2,3,4

Kids a rolls Royce
😃🙃😃😃😃😃😃he did the simple things quite well that's it ....sideways and backwards..most of the time ...
No tackles no defence splitting passes no taking players on ...
Want really for 23 million
He should be ripping this division a new arse hole

Not really into the game today 1st half better after the break but a deep defensive midfielder he is not Norwood is better in that role as evident when Norwood came on Berge looked much better further forward.

Given his physique I wish to hell he could learn to attack the ball with his head both in attacking plays and defensive. He should be a real headache for opposition defences from set pieces and a real asset to our defence when we’re on the receiving end and he just isn’t.

I'm not sure were this rolls Royce bollocks comes from ....
I can think of another car with the RR
Reliant Robin ...
Don't get me wrong I want him to be a massive success but after 2 years....it's not going to happen is it

I don’t think I learned much today. When sitting deep he doesn’t stamp his (unquestionable) talent on games and doesn’t cover sufficient ground.

But get him on the ball high up the pitch, and he damages opponents. How we get him there I’m not sure.

The riddle remains unsolved.

Today was a cameo of his tenure with the blades. Hot and cold good in spells but seems too nice a bloke his size should be a midfield general imo.

My frustration is that if he doesn’t want to be here the best thing he can do is be brilliant, catch the eye of a top club and get his move. Win, win. ££££££

Of course there’s also the Range Rover….
Cost a fortune to buy & maintain.
Luxuriously equipped & plenty of ground clearance.
Look the dogs bollocks though performance & reliability can be an issue.
Depreciation is a problem.
I have no idea if any of that’s true by the way as I’ve never had one - just watched my mate chuck away a ton of cash owning & maintaining one.
Thought Berge did well today without being incredible. I just always want him to be better than he delivers.
