For those who think he is a splay-footed pub footballer (not many of us I know) - this from the OS!

"It was from a crisp, accurate pass from Montgomery, down the right channel, that paved the way for the goal."

Could we have finally found Michael Brown's replacement?

More please, Monty!

;)

Was a very good pass. Clarke looked v good as well.

Hey Dunc. Great post. Pinchy to look like Hades from the Disney Hercules cartoon

And he's also made a brilliant comment about a Wednesday player "Lines":

"I don't think he's ever played higher than League One and maybe emotions took over him."

I've said for a long time that Monty is a better player than people give him credit for, and we always seem to play better when he is in the side.

Just don't understand why he gets all the stick that he does when he has spent his entire career at the Lane (11 Years and counting), played over 350 games for us, has played on through the pain barrier and generally given Sheffield United his all, and loves the club to the extent that he has rejected moves elsewhere to spend his career at the Lane.

Having seen wankers like David Carney, Lee Hendrie, Marcus Bent and Nyron Nosworthy take a huge wage out of club for minimal effort, yet people still choose to lambast Monty, i can't get my head round it.

well said mate. here here

Sorry I'm late. I've been having therapy. It wasn't a good pass at all; It was an excellent pass demonstrating remarkable technique. Well done Monty.

That said, if Willo or K-Mac had played it, would anyone have been so moved as to start a separate thread? It's the sheer eye-rubbing, head-scratching 'did that really happen?' factor isn't it? Many of you would say he's not expected to do that - It's not his job - If he could pass he'd not be playing for us etc. So to that extent you are trying to have your cake and eat it, aren't you.

I haven't imploded. I couldn't go last night but I've seen the goals and I'm absolutely delighted. Can't get carried away on one performance but Phillips and Clarke's contributions were not far short of amazing, given their lack of match sharpness and limited time with their team-mates. For all you fans of the dear departed bench-warmer 'Cotts' - thats a proper winger for you - taste the difference! Lee Williamson - two games in three days for old glasslegs eh? Two outstanding performances to boot. I'd have thought we might want to reflect on such matters?

I don't lambast any of our players on matchdays. That's not support. This forum is an extension of the taproom and I treat it as such.

Monty is a model of commitment, tenacity and fitness. He is admirable for all the reasons Brownie gives. But for all that he is just not a good footballer. I really wish he was.

I really think last night might just be the most significant result of the season. Well done Danny. Well done (I suspect) Billy Dearden. Remarkably well done Matt and Billy [Go on lads, you know you want to, don't you!?]. And yes, Well done Mo......Aaaaaaaaagh No I can't.......I can't........I can't........

[Addendum - Don't worry about Pinchy, we've just sedated him]

Great post Pinchy. Despite our good natured history of disagreement over the years, I respect your views generally and your (half a) nod of recognition in the direction of Sir Nick is rather heartwarming for this Monty lover :-)

Last night laid the bogey of losing to upper echelon teams in this division and given a fair wind, we can make great strides over the next few weeks, looking at the fixtures. However, as we all know, football has a habit of kicking you dead centre in the knackers.... (hopeful intake of breath at this point..)
