There was kernel of truth in Adkins analogy that SUFC is like a rollercoaster, it was probably the only thing he got right during his short lived tenure. We spiral down, pumping the brake to little effect, and then we ultimately start rising up again. It’s in our DNA. The PL relegation season was an Oblivion style rapid descent, but as quick as it was it felt like we bottomed out under Jokanovic. And now we’re on a roll lads.

I’ve watched enough SUFC to know momentum has been building this last few weeks. You can see it in the player’s faces as well. And once that momentum gets going we’ll be difficult for anyone to stop. If we can keep grinding out wins at home when teams park the bus, then the playoffs are well within our grasp. And despite the defeat, the Hull match under Clough broke the Wembley hoodoo for me.

Stranger things have happened eh? :)

Agree......also I wouldn't be as nervous as normal if we did reach the play-off final.

There's several reason for this.
1: I genuinely believe if us and the opposition in this league played their best...then we would win.
So the pressure is more about how we perform...we don't need to worry so much about the opposition playing well.

2: We've recently been in the PL so the prize isn't as special as it would be if we'd not been in the PL for 20 years.
Also I can part understand the theory that it's better to be winning most weeks in the Championship rather than losing most weeks in the PL.
So it would be easy to console myself and look forward to another promotion challenge next season.

3: We've started the season so poorly and not been that impressive really.
So if we did reach the play-offs I'd see it as a bonus and actually enjoy the experience...instead if being fearful.
For the 1st time ever I'd been going to a final at Wembley in a positive mood optimistic about winning instead of the dread/ pressure/ fear of failure.

Just a cautionary note. It's going very well but it's worth remembering that we've largely been playing weaker teams and that tge same players are going to have to olay 2-3 games every week with little in reserve.

We have much sterner tests to come for the rest of the season.

What's the lyrics?

I think the win at Fulham showed character. We really did expect to get tonked by them.

That enforced break and MGW not being available may have fucked it all up a bit.

Not saying we can't win them, but it's going to be harder.

Fulham
WBA
Bournemouth
Huddersfield
Blackburn
Middlesbrough
QPR x 2
Forest
Coventry
Stoke

11 of the last 20 games

We're also playing mid-table teams next month (Millwall, Swansea, Hull, Birmingham) while they still have something to play for and Cardiff and Reading in April when they may still be in a relegation fight.

If we only have 3 strikers were going to struggle, especially as 2 of them dont score goals anymore....

It's probably worth revisiting the fixtures too.

Not only has the team and Hecky helped put together 5 wins and 1 draw from 7 and (6 wins from 8 inc Reading), but it's been done against a backdrop of 6 of the 8 being away games.

We now have the rather enviable fixture balance which, sees us have 60% of our remaining fixtures at home and having played most of the top 8 away - Fulham, Bournemouth, Blackburn, West Brom, Boro, Forest.

Still plenty to do but we are in a position to have a good tilt.

But look at the venues ☝️

7 of those 11 are at home and the away ones apart from QPR are all the lower down teams.

If we can't be beating a lot of these teams on home ground then we won't deserve to go up.

Let's not forget, we already best Fulham away and last season we'd have beaten Bournemouth as neither of their goals would have counted.

We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

COYRAWW!

It’s absolutely ripe to throw the kitchen sink at.

Here we are and here we are and hear we go
Sheff Utd are on a roll
Here we goooo oh
Hecky and Stuart McCall !
Interesting how the lyrics evolve. Where I was on the North Stand it was something like:
And I like it , I like it, I like it , I like it
La la la like it
Ooo-ooh oh
Hecky and Stuart McCall
😆

What’s nice atm is that we go into matches expecting a win and are disappointed with a draw or loss which is how it should be, I never got that feeling with Slav when Hecky was caretaker last season the damage was done so we were doomed by then.

Aye, means it's in our hands though

I’ve watched a fair few championship games this season apart from Blades games and if I’m honest, other than Fulham there isn’t a lot to pick between them all.

Bournemouth aren’t looking that great after a really good start, West Brom seem to have fallen apart and even Blackburn for all their good form, aren’t actually that good in my opinion. They just do the basics well and have a good game plan.

We have lost to some pretty shite teams already by a combination of sloppy play and the Prem hangover.
Now at last it looks like we have some cohesion, with the players we have (which actually are worthy of a top six spot easily - if not top 2) then there is nothing to fear.
Couple that with the momentum we are building and fingers crossed a couple in tomorrow and we should really be pushing for second.
Of course we could easily get slapped by Brum next week and see our season fizzle out over the next month or two.. but it’s looking less likely.

Another match, another win. Two goals which were top quality at this level. We dominated that.

Players getting bang in form, Ndiaye continuing to improve, McBurnie doing a good job and of course MGW to return. On to the next one Blades. Enjoy. UTB ⚔️😍
