Up front now? With Mousse gone for pizza and pasta and Brewster now out for a few weeks, can we afford to go with Sharp, Mcburnie and Didzy as our out and out striker options? For me there is zero pace in any of those 3, and I'm not sure we'll get enough goals to get into the playoffs. I wouldn't being Jebbo back, as 1. I'm not sure he's ready, and 2. I'd rather him be starting week in week out and learning the game ready for next season. This leaves us with one option, and that's to get someone in on loan. If the rumours that we are getting over £300k for Mousse, that should be reinvested into a loan forward until the end of the season. Just my opinion, but it will be a shame to miss out on the play offs, as it's a weak division this year (Fulham apart). Obviously the big problem is who do you get at this late stage? Maybe a youngish lad from a prem side, or maybe a Shane Long type of player (although he's hardly prolific). Just think we need one more forward (more than a defender now).

Jebbisson can step up to the plate,is a better option than Mcburnie + fully match fit at no extra cost, spend the money on defence
If we don’t go up this season they’ll be big guns after Jebbisson.

I was all for leaving Jebbo where he is until Brewster got injured today. Bring him back (unless we get a loanee).
Its mostly 2 games a week from now, another injury or suspension to a striker and we are fooked.

Morning all. Refrained from posting this for the last fortnight but things have accelerated. I've got a lump under my jaw that won't go away and has actually grown in size. Started off as a swollen gland when I was a bit rough but stayed there despite getting over it. Saw my GP and seen a dentist. Dentist referred me to Charles Clifford, GP referred me to Hallamshire. Ultrasound and CT scan at Charles Clifford now results in more appointments at Charles Clifford and NGH for a biopsy-led ultrasound. The language used by my dentist amongst themselves and the deafening silence from Charles Clifford has got me on high alert. The most likely is a blocked saliva gland (a stone), other scenarios are the ones we dread. Every phone call gets me panicking. I've also lost feeling on the left side of my top lip and slightly into my cheek. A 'shadow' in my gum has appeared on the dentist xray which could show bone erosion.

It's the not knowing that is the scary part. So I might be on this thread more often. Fingers crossed, eh?

RECALL BURKE!

🤣
And Moose.

Well, you started it.

No past it has beens on loan looking for a last pay day. We should be after young, hungry players with a point to prove.

Should be chancing our arm with a Liam Delap or Cole Palmer (more unlikely) with the promise of minutes.

Alternatively bring jebbison back if we're serious about him leading the line next season

Why would we want to chase promotion?
We'll get batty raped every single week in the Prem with this squad. It'll be worse than our last pl season.
Im praying we don't go up this season.

Play Ndiaye upfront with Sharp and put Berge in behind them until MGW returns. What's the story with him re injury?

I think we need Jebbeson back now, we might not have any money for other areas if we loan another striker..

To be fair it's time mcburnie got a run in the team, he needs to grab this chance now..

My prediction. Sharp & Mcgoldrick up front..

I agree we need more upfront if we are going to mount a serious playoff push. But in the past, we often go into these finals with no strikers
and we all know how it turns out.........

Seems a no-brainer to bring Jebbo back now Brewster is sidelined and Moose has left the building. We won't have another chance, before the end of the season, to reinforce the squad. Gotta think about the club first, not personal development. I'd have preferred for him to stay at Burton, until the summer, but our circumstances have changed. Needs must.

Begs the question, how did he perform?

I posted that on a different thread, but the reality is that on the basis of that he looked nowhere near enough ready for the Championship.

Which is not to say he wasn't any good but he didn't hold the ball up and didn't win headers. He looked good when the ball was in front of him and he had possession.

He had two half-chances. For the first he helped a ball on about 10 yards out, it was on target but he didn't catch it cleanly and the keeper made a smart save. The other time a rebound came to him inside the box, he lashed at it wildly and I think it probably ended up outside the ground (there are low stands behind the goals at Lincoln).

He looks, not surprisingly, very raw. Clarke-Harris of Peterborough scored 30 times in League 1 last season and he looked bloody hopeless last night, so anyone expecting Jebbison to come in to our side and make a big contribution is, I think, going to be quickly disappointed. And we know how understanding some of our fans can be.

Let him develop at the lower, Wednesday-level, with less pressure and maybe next season we can see what we've got.

Totally get this and yeah, ideally, we'll have a solution that doesn't require a recall. But, if not bringing him back is the difference between being able to rotate players in and out, as fitness / fatigue requires V's struggling to put out competitive teams and maintain our league position and trajectory then l choose the former.

I don't think anyone is expecting him to become the best in the Championship but he did look promising when he played last season and he is a presence.

But the reality is that with no Brewster for a bit, no Mousset, no Burke, no Gibbs-White and we're playing N'Diaye in the 'Duffy role', it leaves a 36 year old and a 34 year old to play 6 matches in a month, supported by a guy who is getting back to fitness.

Without opening the debate, both McBurnie and McGoldrick have missed games due to covid. So they either had it or there remains a possibility they are unvaccinated and will be most liable to become unavailable if they get classed as a close contact to anyone. That would be a disaster.

So the question is really, who do you want as your 4th striker with 18 points up for grabs? Jebbison, who has 9 goals in 1,436 minutes, a goal every 1.77 matches or Osula, who hasn't played a game of men's football yet.

I understand the point that Ron_Justice and Champagneblade are making, and it seems ludicrous to be in this position when we all know that our squad had far too many forwards in it, but that injury situation will probably clear up soon enough and I don't see why it's necessary to halt the progression of a promising young player who's not likely to get many minutes if he comes back.

We're not going to be relegated and although we could, feasibly, find ourselves in the play-offs, should we overcome all historical precedent and win that, then I'd probably go into hiding for a year because next season, in that unlikely case, would be brutal.

Just our luck with no confirmation that MGW will return that we should lose Brewster and Ndiaye to injuries which leaves us with two old men and a player who by all accounts has been hit hard by Covid as our only options up front. If we were playing a game per week we could probably live with it but we go into a very important run of games that will come at us thick and fast, this is what will derail our revival.
Jebbo is best left where he is, he is clearly not ready for a run of important games at a higher level, we'd all like him to be the next Brian Deane but he isn't.

Inject Moose with stem cells to get him through consecutive games.

A bit left field but, why not try Bogle in a more advanced role?
He has the dribbling skills to worry defenders, can cross and has a shot on him. We also have cover for him at the back.

I was going to put this in the Bogle thread but thought I would comment here instead. I don't know how Bogle became a defender when he can't defend or tackle. Basically he swings at the ball, 50% of the time he misses completely and of the other 50% half result in free kicks as he takes man and ball. It is ok when playing crap teams like Luton and Peterborough but he is found out against better teams. What he does have is a bit of pace, some good ball skills and control, he has quick feet and can link up with others in tight spaces. His decision making and crossing need some work But has a great shot in as well and he is not afraid to shoot. I think he could play further up front in a second striker role or at least that would be where I would be trying to develop him. Baldock comes back in at wing back. Given this I would leave Jebbison where he is on loan

True, but the money we would make would enable us to start putting together a decent side to come back in 2023/24 for Premiership season 2024/25

No more fucking about, Jebbison has to be recalled, and I'd be bringing another youngster up to train with the first team and sit on the bench.
We cannot rely on 2 35yr old strikers, and one that's been a bit crap so far, if were serious abart pushing for top 6, we need to get goals, we also need to be forging partnerships for next season.
Come on Hecky, you get paid to know this shit!!

I dont think it's the right time to start playing a wing back as a striker, especially when we have a decent striker out on loan, that can come back and play?, also, it would leave us short on cover at RWB, would it not??
We rather recall Jebbison or bring the likes of Hackford through, we need a strong side to push on, not a cobbled up one.

If we are not chasing promotion then what is the point for our players to be on the pitch and for fans attending matches?

If we will be a yo-yo team in this decade like Wendy did in the 1950s decade (up 1950, down 51, up 52, down 55, up 56, down 58, up 59) then I would settle for that

The cash injection is very much needed. Ok we won’t go up, we aren’t good enough, but we need the money. You don’t turn down promotion to the PL.

I worry that Brewsters injury could be this seasons Ched moment

Hackford is out long term with an ACL injury.

Can't bank on Brewster finishing the season never mind the playoffs he has a recurring hamstring problem.
