People mitigating for Berge saying that he needs time to readjust. Well yesterday a comeback Berge contributed just as much as a fit & healthy Berge earlier in the season.

We've had adapting to a new country, needs a run of games, covid, physical nature of Championship, he's in a rubbish side...What next? The texture of the grass in UK is different to what he prefers?

He's a dud. Nothing short of a miraculous turnaround will change that.

Agree.

To quote Warnock 'blame pitch, tactics, formation'

He's played under 3 managers now.

We had we were playing him in the wrong position or he was adapting to the UK or he's had injuries etc, etc

Guy is either nowhere near as good as the talent envisaged when bought or lacks the desire to make it at the top level. Probably a bit of both.

The notion he will go elsewhere and shine is a misnomer too. Surely good players stand out in bad teams or raise the level of others? He shrinks and just plays at the same level or worse as other Champ players.

Massive disappointment and been a dreadful signing. To think we have spent 60 million on him, Brewster and McBurnie. If we recouped 10-15 million for the three now it would be a stretch.

Berges value is probably less than two thirds of what it was and the other two not sure you'd get more than a couple of mill if a team gambles on a reclamation project.

Wilder is doing great at Boro and he was fantastic for us for the most part but these signings (and others) could hamper the club for 10 years. They have been an absolute disaster.

They barely play and when they do are completely ineffective.

Berge.

Too many fans miss the point entirely.

When we play shite he plays even more shite because he is so superior to the rest of our squad that, as shite as they are, when they manage to play even shiter, it makes Berge look really, really shite, when in fact he is on a completely different level in terms of technical ability, foresight and any other measure I can't be arsed to mention.

So he ends up passing to players who aren't where he thinks they should be. Or not passing to players who should be somewhere else. And because the opposition's players are also shite, he can't tackle them or track them because they don't go where good players, like him, would go.

We're shite, and Berge has played in the Champions League y'know. He's played for Valerenga and Genk, and they don't have shite players who made him look bad. No sir.

Fair report apart for a generous mark for Egan. I do think Sharp’s reaction after the game was justified given the grief many of their fans give him (he was abysmal during the game though).

We need a massive rebuild but it won’t happen because just like in the McCabe days the only impressive thing about our club is our support. Yet again we have owners who would be more at home in L1, which is probably where we will be sooner rather than later.

Sadly accurate pommpey. I watched the first half through a blurr of alcohol, which I’m not used to , being an occasional drinker. Sadly I was lucid for the second half. Not sure what to make of that « performance« . Wes didn’t have much to do actually, apart from picking the ball from his net twice. Such a lacklustre performance in front of a large away following. Straight after the substitutions we concede two. Like you, pommpey don’t know why we’ve signed Hourihane, he and Berge seem more concerned to avoid being injured which unfortunately makes them little more than bystanders

Sharp should have ragged the gobshite allover . Blokes like him need fronting every time

Yeah. That would have done the club and him the world of good.

What a silly opinion you have, feller. You do understand that every person in the public eye has a phonecam (or plural) on them at all times now, yeah?

Billy is club captain, an example-setter and vastly experienced in this game. He knows that the best way to shut these idiots up is banging the ball in the net, something yesterday I feel got to him after his sitter.

Very unprofessional of him and I hope it's not repeated because from next game, opposition fans know he can be got at.

Wilder signed Lee Evans, soon saw that he'd inherited a shirker and correctly moved him on asap.

Sander Berge is playing at a similar level to Lee Evans.

Seems to be a history with Derby fans and Sharp. I‘m sure opposition fans will have noticed his reaction unfortunately, so get ready Billy.

Gawd. Where to start?

Listen. I am not accepting this piss-watery 'we haven't played for five weeks and it's disturbed our karma/momentum' horseshit. It's not a practical excuse, or even a reason behind why we simply gave the game up today. Derby again, weren't that good. They are where they are because of who they are and the amount of poor play displayed by them today against what should be ostensibly a Premier League outfit. As people reliably assured me when I was super-critical of last seasons deadbeats, with this seasons squad we should be - on paper - picking teams like Derby up and wiping out shitty arses on them. As it stood, and with all Derby County's shortcomings, all they had to do (as with most other teams this season) was weather any powderpuff attack and hit us when our concentration lapses. Both their goals were exactly that.

The matchday side contained the utter failures of the past with Robinson now a wretched example of a player who needs to move onto another club and start again in at LCB. We have Berge who is simply working his ticket, Norrington-Davies who seriously - is the only alternative option to an already poos Enda Stevens, the midfield a complete fragile mess of Norwood and ... I dunno ... Ndaiye ... McGoldrick (?) and up front leading the line Billy Sharp aged 35, who as it seems has blotted his copybook with an unsavoury altercation with bating Derby wankers after the game. Hardly captain stuff, Billy.

The first half we were in and out of the game. We looked to get a goal, maybe two ahead, but how is this gonna happen when you have shit crossing from Bogle and RND and some frankly head smackingly crap development play from a midfield which looks more like last seasons clueless shitbox, Norwood reverting to base principles and the other two just playing duty traffic cone to Derby's more agile central players.

Second half we completely sank and sank further when McCall and Lester decided to make changes to change the game. It did just that and we simply regressed and died. Two goals, one a Maradonaesque waltz through the final third and the second a failure of playing progression on the edge of their box translated into their player bending it into the top bin thanks to catastrophic recover play (C3PO taking RND out) and again a failure to press and deny shooting opportunity and we are home and hosed.

Simply no excuses. Not good enough United. We should be far better than what was seen today. What saw instead was a side far below the Championship promotion side a few years ago and we have spent £100+m on them.

Foderingham 5/10: No chance with the goals
Bogle: 5/10: Good going forward but cutting inside and crossing was shite
Basham 6/10: Lovely tekkers, but was uncharacteristically skinned for their first
Egan 6/10: Decent first half but in the second he looked bereft of confidence
Robinson 3/10: Nice long throws but defensively he's done at this club. Please move him on where he can regenerate his career and credibility
RND 5/10: Plenty of endeavour and bustle but fuck all to show as an end result
Norwood 3/10: back to last year's levels of pointless hollywood balls and substandard midfield industry
Berge 2/10: Utter shite. A complete waste of a transfer fee. He has nothing at all to offer the English game and is simply lightweight and ineffective, despite many people remaining bone-hard about his capability
Ndaiye 4/10: Lots of graft but with the sum total of fuck all
McGoldick 3.5/10: A poor outing. He's not nearly as sharp or effective as we've seen him in the past. This season should be his last.
Sharp 0/10: Billy loses all his points here for that fucking stupid reaction to wanker Derby fans outside the ground. You are our club captain and our talismanic waypoint through some challenging times. Cunts outside your game don't matter. Leave that for bellends like McBurnie.

Hourihane 2/10: Can anyone tell me why we have signed this berk on loan?
Brewster 2/10: Completely out of his depth. Another useless, waste of money
Osborn 2/10: Just to cap the raft of pointless substitutions

We've just regressed to Slav levels of uselessness with today's outing, foretold by some pretty shit football last week. We have a few short days to sort this shit out or Preston will push us further back down the table and we can solidly forget any bounceback fantasy most of us hoped would happen.

We need a fucking vast clear-out and give January has resulted in zero arrivals or departures apart from the frankly useless Olsen, I don't hold out much hope until the end of the season and if we turn in performances like todays, we might be involved in a relegation battle come the end of the season.

Face it. Sheffield United aren't very good, at all.

What we have us a squad full of shit that hasn't changed much over the last five years...and doesn't look like changing anytime soon sadly.

There was so much wrong yesterday.
Nothing up front
Nothing in midfield
Defence a shambles

Most of what you so is spot on, I'd be a bit easy on Berge and Brewster both coming back from injuries and long layoffs.
Norwood was shocking, Berge ineffective, you could go on and on, it needs a clear out of the "old guard" (with a few exceptions) and a rebuild but we all know what the problems.

That's ok then let anyone abuse you and turn the other cheek ,give me a cantona ,a Billy ,a Curtis anyday of the week .

Yep. That's 'life in the public eye'. Not sure if you are fully aware of the levels of personalised, sometimes pretty sinister abuse which goes on every minute of every day on line and from the terraces to the public figures either in politics, media, sport or otherwise? It exists. The worst reaction is 'reaction'. It qualifies that abuse and flags the recipient as easy to rile. I don't expect to see my club captain, experienced as he is and universally loved by Unitedites, facing down some lowlife Derby shithead just because he has 'said something'. What if this said shithead has a knife? What if he is a better fighter than Sharp and knocks him clean the fuck out? I don't want to see Billy Sharp act like this. He is better than that entirely and have loved the way he has demonstrated to opposition fans when he celebrates a goal about the 'fat lad from Sheffield' tag. When it's nestling in the back of the net, that's his comeback. Cantona's reaction similarly was ridiculous and sent the professional game backwards.

Billy should be more professional and should have ignored the derby scum. I hope the thick derby cunt who threw a firework at a little lass gets caught.
Very bad day at the office results-wise. however, we must improve against Preston.on Tuesday. or the points gap to the top six will be harder to catch up.

I get your optimism, but frankly, this team is too busted to get anywhere in the playoffs and furthermore if lucky enough, in the PL again.

I am not entirely sure what happened to us in the first season in the Premiership under WIlder. I feel last season was a season delayed, where the chickens, some pointless, incapable and expensive, have certainly come home to roost. Truth beknown, we should have been straight back down but we stayed on the merit of some pretty gobsmacking results. The writing was on the wall first game back post lockdown and for the remainder of the season where our results were inconsistent and flakey with only a few high spots.

The next five years we need to cement our place in this division and build a team which has strength in depth and capability to endure in the PL. We never did that under Warnock and Wilder's ambitions were dismally flawed.

pommpey

Yes and the man who spent it slopes out the back door with a wedge and walks into a job with a chairman who is wealthy and will spend money on the team which historically he's done before.
Be carefull Gibson like Warnock! Wilder's record spending big money is not good as we found out.
I think you'll find Gibson is way too savvy to give Wilder carte blanche on signings, unlike our idiot chairman.

Spoke to a Derby fan in the pub after. I said that their midfield pissed on us completely in the second half. His reply was - 'Well it wasn't hard was it? Who's that big dopey cunt with the turning circle of The Ark Royal? He was comically shite. And the bloke who came on as sub was even worse' So, step forward Sander Berge and Conor Hourihane. Even the opposition fans are laughing at you now
Still with Berge, he's 'playing in the wrong position', 'not fit yet', 'brought down by the players around him being crap', 'needs games to adjust' etc... etc..... Well how about overwriting that list with 'He really, really is very, very crap indeed'. And just leave it at that.....

Disagree and that's my and Billys right. Someone gives you shit defend yourself ,would be cowardly not to

So for every time something unsavoury comes from the terraces, players have got every 'right' to 'defend themselves' by fronting up and offering physical confrontation or violence or something?

Do you live in the real world?

pommpey

ps: I am sure Billy Sharp will appreciate you speaking on his behalf

Fair assessment Pommpey. Squad needs an overhaul from past-it players, expensive trinkets, crap loans and those that are just utter shit. If nobody goes in the JTW itll be madness. The likes of Gray and Vardy cost nowt, those kind of deals are out there to be had coupled with decent loans.

It's baffling that Robinson keeps his spot n the team. Surely a combination of RND and Stevens in the left defensive positions would be better, whichever way round they are placed?

Very much 'needs/must' for him

I feel a bit sorry for him, TBH.

Ndaiye showed fleet of foot it’s not his fault that the other 10 are ‘proverbial’ but him and Jebbison will be sold on we all know this it’s just a matter of when and for how much and I’m guessing that we’ll never see the money either. It may be another 10 years before we see the Premier League again which seems to be our decade eclipse for a season or 2 if we’re lucky perhaps our salvation is the academy and I hope/pray that any money may go into that.

I've always felt sorry for Robinson as well. In fact I reported Wilder to Amnesty International over a year ago for consistently torturing the poor bastard by playing him in PL games against opponents who not only humiliated him every week, but us as well.

But the spineless gits weren't interested, call themselves a "human rights" organisation?

He's never been good enough but that's not his fault; he doesn't select himself for the side.

However, it is indeed a mystery why he still finds himself picked by new management, despite all evidence of his lack of ability.

I can only assume he fulfills the sort of role that the manager's son would perform at the club, but our managers don't have a son in the squad so poor old Jack is the whipping boy.

The leage table suggests we are a mid-table Championship side, and despite spunking millions to improve that's exactly where we are and probably where we belong. Yes we'll flirt with promotion the playoffs and relegation every now and again but we are where we're supposed to be really. The Slav appointment promised to change this, albeit short term but without backing he was a Micky Adams 2.0. The new regime makes sense on paper but investing in youth and development is long term planning and you need to tread water for several seasons if this is the approach which is what we're doing now.
Without MGW we're just a workmanlike side with no creative spark whatsoever.

UTB.
Bout nails it

Got the ball into Derby's 6 yd box four times yesterday which is more than the rest of the spineless lot did, long throws I know but the only tactic we had that worked.
