Does anybody else agree that they should play the whole of Annie's Song before we play the scummers next month rather than the "first line prompt" just before kick off?

One of my favourite memories of the Lane is before a derby match against "them" with Annie's Song played from start to finish about five or 10 minutes before kick off with the Kop in full voice.

In the most recent home derbies it seems we only play the first line just before kick off, just like any other game but it's a great build-up and atmosphere builder when the whole lot gets played.

So, Foxy, if enough people on here agree, could you pass this request on to the club please?

Much appreciated.

Play it or sing it?

It seems like you want the club to pipe the music and try to generate a false atmosphere. Better off let the crowd sing the songs, the crowd celebrate goals and just generally create our own atmosphere without the need for a band, 1st line prompters or words on the screens... At least I think thats what you meant!

I hate the first line prompts before each half and I like to decide what and when to sing, but I do like it when they play the full version of Annie's Song about five minutes before the kick off (which is what I'm asking for).

Why not followed by DW on the Mike singing STAND UP IF YOU HATE WEDNESDAY

OR...

They should just fuck off with the "first line prompt" full stop. Americanised shit! We sing it when we want to sing it. We'll probably sing it at kick off anyway so just don't bother.

I do agree that we should play the full song before kick off. Liverpool always play You'll Never Walk Alone and all the scarfs are raised.

We should have a re-jig IMO.

1. Announce the teams in full
2. Welcome out the teams and play whatever song they come out to.
3. (When they usually name the teams) Play Annie's Song in Full

Oh yeah and it's MAGNET !!!!

Fully agree about getting rid off all the prompts but I wouldnt mind them playing the whole thing before kick off but not at kick off, we know to sing then.

MAGGOTS!! :)

Without the prompts you just get people starting singing at different times all over the place and it loses the full impact until everyone gets in sync. Short of someone shouting "go" or counting us down then the prompts do the job. Doesn't matter so much with chants during the game as they build slowly, getting louder and louder as people join in. With Greasy Chip Butty we all need to be in full voice right from the start.

Never used to prevent the kop singing in unison before all these seats were put in.
It was a natural build up and rolled on from there.

Now the PA is so loud before a game it competes with the real atmosphere of a match

Shall we prompt you to shout "Yes" when we score as well, Rattly?

I agree with much of this, the PA drowns out any chance of creating an atmosphere pre-match - its frickin deafening!

Also agree with Annies Song pre match. We don't need the 'prompts' or the post-goal music for that matter. It's becoming more like Reading, Leicester or any other indenti-shit club every year.

Surely what sets the Lane apart is it's individuality? Why are we trying our best to lose it?

And bring back team's coming out separately.

Bob Booker (one of my heroes) doing his pre match cheerleading last season was one of my (and I think his) most embarassing moments as a Blade. How did United and BDTBL come to that.

We are in sync at away games. 1 person starts it and then everyone just joins in.

Easier at away games as the crowd's smaller, but even at Burton Albion there were 3 or 4 different groups all starting at different times. Got there in the end though. Multiply that for a home crowd and it doesn't sound quite as awesome as we might want it to do, well not initially anyway. Sure we'd cope if they removed it and I do agree that even though it has it's merits, it does make us look in the eys (and ears) of away fans as though we need prompting to sing rather than it being spontaneous.

Cheering for a goal is very different. Some folks start cheering as soon as the ball leaves the players foot (then regret it when it sails over the bar) whereas others (like me) wait until the ref gives the goal.

And nobody waits for Tom Hark to start!

All piped music is cack!

Wow, do people really wait for the referee to signal before celebrating? How reserved are you?! Soon as it hits the back of the net I'm generally up.

Individuality as in. We score. We cheer. We shut up. We sit down. They kick back off!

I have never been to an away game where when the home team scores they cheer a goal then shut up. Usually they score and the chants start immediately and maintain through the proceeding kick off and for the next 5 mins or more.

Is it just me or has anybody else noticed that?

It's like we all go "Yeeeesssss, get in..... Der der der der da! der der der der da! Jolly good, that was a splendid goal, shall we be seated again."

That's what the piped music does though, I think rather than encouraging people to sing it actually encourages them to stop when the music stops
