Pro-vaccine passporters fighting anti-vaccine passporters in the car park pre-game
What about the pro choicers? Why should we be left out of the carnage? Suitably outraged, spat out dummy incoming!

Charlton away a night game called off just about to get off the coach to walk five min to the ground ended up at Wembley England v Eire, poor game.
In Exeter motorway stop off. an announcement over tannoy Plymouth game off. went to the Bristol city game off. ended up at Newport.dreadful ground. should have returned back to Sheffield in the first place.

when the family stand was being built didnt a game get called off because the builders refused to attend the site on match day to throw the ball back as only they were allowed on the building site ? Or did I dream it.

We also played Leeds in a 'friendly' on FA Cup 4th round day late 70's. Seem to recall we won 2-1 and the crowd was around 10,000.
1981. Leeds had trialists from Peru. Keith Solomon was our sub keeper that night. He died during training a few weeks later

Can’t recall being at one that’s been abandoned other than the Battle of Bramall Lane.

The pre season game last year v Dundee United got rained off but that was behind closed doors. Must have been one in the last 30 years surely?

Not particularly unusual but I'd made it to being about 6 pints deep at the Wetherspoons next to Liverpool Street Station before hearing our cup tie against Orient was called off - apparently they'd forgot to put the covers out on the pitch.

Also made it as far as Peterborough before hearing that one was called off, bit nippy early morning going for the train but weather seemed fine so that was a surprise.
Yes, we were a few pints in by the time a policeman came into the pub to tell us the game was off.

Coach decided to stay down there for another couple of hours to allow us a few extra pints

Can we have a sweepstake on how many actually turn up? Surely in this day and age it would be single figures?

I've only ever been at one game in my life which ended up being abandoned - a filthy Friday night friendly at Kilmarnock in March 1992. I remember meeting some Tinsley Blades who had driven up and were driving back straight afterwards in the monsoon, which struck me as a special kind of bonkers.
I was fortunate enough to be at the next game we played, also in pouring rain, at S6 - enter Sir Bobby D !

The West Brom v blades game at the lane was postponed mid game due to some reason that escapes me….

Nothing will beat the postponement of our game in the 1980s against Oldham - the discovery of an unexploded world war two bomb. What other unusual postponements have there been?
Remember that well. Before the days of mobile phones I was driving to the Lane from my home in Lancashire and enjoying a nice warm day listening to the radio when they announced the match was off. No possibility of rain or snow so couldnt believe it.
No explanation at all so initially I thought I had misheard it so carried on driving and when about 20 miles from Sheffield it came on again and then gave the reason. I still thought it must be a prank though at first but then thought even the BBC wouldnt prank us surely !

Wasn’t there are a home match postponed because the under pitch heating broke down? Or was that Hillsboro?

Which was the night match that Peter dornan made his debut, and then disappeared back to Ireland.
was that match abandoned?

The pre-season 3-team tournament in Budapest 2009 was called off due to a thunderstorm that struck during the first game between Ferencvaros and ZTE. To this day I’ve never seen a storm quite like it. United hadn’t kicked a ball so goes down as the furthest I’ve travelled only for a game to be called off. There was no communication from anyone about the abandonment we were just left to figure it out ourselves - which was relatively easy once we spotted (still from our position in the stadium) the players boarding the team bus outside.99B2FA4F-198F-4505-AB13-892709675490.jpeg

there were actually a number of games postponed that day due to the weather. When the game was played on the Tuesday it was absolutely freezing: the pitch was bone hard and a number of players wore trainers.

Game following our 1-0 win at Leeds on 2nd Sept 1939 was abandoned due to Hitler invading Poland.
Pretty sure I’m right in saying (and this isn’t sarcasm) We were top of the league and absolutely flying….. world wars and pandemics just seem to happen when we’re doing well !!

We were 2nd with 2 wins and a draw from 3 games. Blackpool were top.

The next game after war broke out wasn’t abandoned- it was cancelled.

The Reading game on 16/11/2002 got called off due to a waterlogged pitch. I can remember getting down to the Lane, hearing the news, then ending up on the lash in the Tramway instead!

Not unusual but I hitched to Palace around November 1972 in pouring rain. Game was postponed and rearranged till after the new year. I wasn’t going back for a bloody night match. Silent might know the exact date. It was called off at about 2-45 pm. The barstewards.

I arrived on the train from Manchester for that match to see the message written on a black board at Midland station about the cancellation.

I think Bradford City away was postponed one year. It was a miserable night and I somehow ended up drinking in Leeds with our hooligan contingents.
