We need to talk about Paul.

Dropped in at the Deep end after CW walked, players in shock, up against PL opposition and gave Ndiaye, Jebbison, Seriki their debuts, with a squad tgat had effectively given up, 3 wins is bloody good going all things considered
It wasn't. He looked absolutely clueless for most of those games and produced much worse performances than under Wilder after he left. After relegation was confirmed we had a few dead rubber games where we picked up a few wins. It took him many many games to even drop Lundstram. We need a bit more than shouting and swearing in a training session

I don't think his managerial record has got going that much for any of us to judge and stats can easily be manipulated to suit an agenda.

At Barnsley, his win % wasn't the highest but there are a fair few draws in there and he did get them promoted to the Championship and then finish 9th in there, which for Barnsley is a couple of good seasons. Mostly they're expected to struggle at this level. You could say a promotion to the Championship and a 9th placed finish by the age of 41 is well ahead of what Wilder was achieving at that age.

He did well enough to be poached by Leeds.

At Leeds he was given just 16 games and not a single transfer window but did introduce some younger players. I don't see how that is any period to judge a guy. It's even less than Jokanovic.

At Hibs, he won more than he lost and was there less than a year, in a period ravaged by injuries. Some of the Hibs guys are sympathetic, saying Doidge's poor finishing cost them a lot.

He also did slightly better in terms of points per game than Wilder last season.

So he has a foundation. Let's see if he can kick on.
Great Post

3 wins in 12 games. Not much of an achievement though that’s mainly on the players.
First three games taking over a shipwreck were Leicester (who were fighting for CL spot but did we actually have a manager for that game?), Chelsea (who got in CL) and then a narrow defeat against Leeds. After that he steadied ship and got 9 points from last 8 games. It was actually 9 points from last 6 games which equates to a top 6 finish in Premier League terms and if repeated for rest of this season will see us comfortably in the play-offs. In those last 6, only the 2nd half at Tottenham was pretty shit tbh.

This club will end up non league, mark my words, it will happen.

You can only act amateur for so long before it becomes a reality

Still, there might be an odd occasion when our fans will be able to big themselves up about promotion back to League 2 and taking 2000 to away games........until the harsh reality of League 2 kicks in and they realise it's too expensive for us.

I read somewhere that as he was already on a 5-year contract, legally we couldn’t promote him and give him less in a contract. Is that correct?
Legally? Of course you can unless the value of a shorter contract was less than that of the longer one. Unless he agress to it after consultation.

We don't have an option other than to see how it goes.

I expect an immediate bounce from the new manager syndrome in the coming weeks from the players.

Some legacy player will be retained, some will be on their bike leaving behind if not mega money, but money that they won't get wherever they end up, so you'd like to think they will be playing for their futures.

Sometimes it just clicks with manager/coaches and players - we should get an idea over the coming few games.

Ever thought he looked clueless because of the shell shocked players that had already thrown in the towel

I agree to an extent.
He was so slow to react to the issues that season. It was obvious Lunny needed dropping from that team, it was obvious to fans, to pundits, to anyone with eyes who has watched football. It took him 5 games to try and do that. We lost all 5 of those games and took a few pastings. Tactics and selections were often bizarre.
From his record I see a good coach who can work well developing youth. I don't see a good manager.
Hope I am wrong but I think he will be worse than SJ.
I think we will be back for Blessin when he qualifies for the work permit.

Is part of that down to the fact it’s not gone the right way for him at those clubs though? If you are performing you don’t get the sack.
Do you think that’s the case? I’ve always believed managerial success is not much more than a random number generator.

Only a select few, who’ve done it repeatedly, convince me. In general, they get neither the time or resource to be judged fairly.

CW - 14 points from 28 games
PH - 9 points from 10 games

🤷‍♀️

I believe hecky will do a great job, he's a very good talker clearly respected by the players, just seeing how happy the players looked in training is a massive plus. Utb
Though I agree with most of that, it’s about results, nothing more. His managerial track record suggests those things haven’t equated to results in the past.

Well I suppose sometimes the stars have to align for someone to achieve success. Let’s hope this is the case for the man affectionally known around the lane as Hecky.

All PH points from games after Lunny was dropped. If Wilder had dropped Lunny after the abysmal Wolves game you never know. Lunny cost us points against Villa and Leeds i recall. Might have changed the trajectory of that season. I honestly think that sunk us more than anything else that season. Wilder being in full on stubborn mode over a stupid scouse right midfielder, who was going to leave anyway, cost us and him. Hope it was worth it Chris!
PH upturn began to coincide with Rammers picking up form as well...
So, its down to the players, are they going to play or get another manager the sack...

Stop talking nonsense.

After the events of the last few days I'm not convinced we'll have a club in 5 years time.

Well said buddy

It’s also not a solo venture. You could be a fabulous manager, do everything right but ultimately come up against teams that are better than you

Who the hell do people think we could have got in besides Hecky?
We've fuck all to spend. New managers want some munneh!
And that’s probably the main reason we’ve binned Slav and brought Hecky in. He’s the best appointment possible considering the Prince is potless

I think best case scenario is we have a few seasons like those early Warnock years before the triple assault season, mid table, never in danger of relegation, taking the odd cup scalp and the Sheffield derbys if the pigs get back up.. That’s the best case and I think I would take that..…

….worst case is of course we find ourselves back in League one in the next couple of years.

One thing is for sure if the board have no money we are up shit creek without a paddle . The chairman doesn’t give a toss after his last shambolic interview I didn’t even know who he was.
Only when we get owners in that will invest will we go anywhere
For my twopeneth about the new manager just remember the last time he was involved. There will be a bounce but when the shine from the bounce rubs off God help us
