Interesting one, and not a deadline day departure we were expecting!

Steve Lewis (Head of Commercial) leaves United with immediate effect.

Football Club can today announce the departure of Steve Lewis who was Head of Commercial at the Club.

The Club has taken the decision with immediate effect. All queries re any commercial issues should be directed to the commercial department 0871 663 2462 or email[email protected]

Dave McCarthy, managing director at United, expressed his best wishes to Steve saying: "We are grateful to Steve for all efforts during his time at Bramall Lane and we wish him all the very best in his future work."

I heard he was caught curling out a log in Kevin McCabe's morning coffee*

(I heard nothing of the sort)

It'll cover Ched's wages for a couple of weeks. Get Batho to do it.

I've still yet to see what purpose Batho serves with in the club?

Agree with you. He's the manager of communications don't you know? According to Foxy he gets the players to do post-match interviews.

Incidentally, was that you in the Yeovil programme? If so, no mention of your car park protest Brownie?! Some good stuff.

I think your just jealous of the people who have found Mr Batho very useful.;)

If you could be bothered to find out for yourself rather than take any half-opportunity to have a dig, then you may know what his remit at the club currently is.

Not sure what his role has to do with Steve Lewis leaving the club though.

Perhaps some of us are concerned that the man that was brought in to be the fans communications bloke has since slinked off into a role of communications manager (whatever that is - i've looked, can't see what it is) and in the meantime, a bloke from the hot dog stalls behind the kop is now our contact point within the club...

In the meantime, nobody has managed to convince me (despite me supporting Batho's original role) what Batho ever did, his responses seemed to be "i'll check"!

brownie never turned up for his car park protest ,he went out on an all dayer instead

any danger of heading back on topic?

I thought after all the outrage at ticket schemes etc, it might be an area that was discussed sensibly and in depth.

It clearly grabbed you attention to comment as well.

And besides, I have nowt else going on in my life. Routine?

So you've come across a situation where a senior manager is leaving (pushed, jumped or the result of a scuffle on the balcony), where the directors have said, 'sure, work your full notice. Make a bunch of decisions about stuff and spend some budgets.'

I thought you'd be used to working in circles where your passwords are being reset by the IT director as the MD is giving you the bad news... :)

Never had the joy of not working my full notice myself, so wouldn't know this personally. I normally have my email kept open after I leave so I can ensure a full completion of my job.

Normally the club are so sketchy with the details that they either don't mention it until months later or they omit such details as this.

You know once mic has seen it there's no chance of that;)

Cutting costs for one reason or another. It's not important as I see it. We talk about the first team being stripped, well when the first team isn't being butchered I don't care about the behind the scenes people. They don't make my football club go up the table.

Its ok Foxy you taking a pop at a supporter who is concerned about the role Batho plays as a puppet within the club. How about something a bit more balanced? Brownies aim may be misguided (then again he may be spot on) but his support and concern for the club isn't. I sometimes think that in the mad dash to protect everything and anything the club stands for some people mistake fans concerns for an excuse to have a go. Generally it isn't, its concern that is built up over a long period of time.

I'm sure sometimes people's browsers render extra text that I haven't actually typed.

Or trying to add the balance you speak so much about?

You speak to one and out pops someone else. I do speak about balance because its critical to the running of this place and SUFC. But if its balance then shouldn't Batho (christ only knows what he does in McCabes empire now, perhaps fires up the furnaces or somesuch task) or someone like him remain independent? Thats balance. SUFC isn't balanced and while I don't share Brownies obvious loathing of Batho I understand fully where it comes from. Isn't the bigger picture that McCabe has now built a club to which a lot (I won't use the word majority because I can't tell you if it is) of fans are so cynical absolutely anything that happens is regarded as McCabe working satanically to improve his lot? I know I regard the man, who was once the saviour of all things SUFC as a malingering mad uncle who keeps meddling and won't let go. Everything he does is some twisted ploy to make him (not SUFC) more publicity or more money. Not a balanced view but an understandable one given the way the club has been stripped this past few years.

Foxy : your a smart enough bloke to know what inference is aren't you? You may not have typed it but it sure as hell looked to me like you were saying it.

You speak to one and out pops someone else...

Yep... that's the point of a public forum.

You know, someone says something, anyone can respond with an agreeing or disagreeing viewpoint (which is not "having a pop").

I think Foxy's point was that this thread wasn't about Richard Batho's role at the club (a topic discussed at length in other areas of the forum), but rather, the departure of Steve Lewis, the head of a completely different department.
