Poor show today from the blades. Played some nice stuff (like we have been wanting for years) but the crowd was embarrassing, dont forget Brentford brought about 1000. Come on swallow your pride and get down to the lane for what looks like being a decent season.

The only proviso is you give the players and manager time.

We are Blades!

It was interesting to me that the lower level we now play at seems to have led to more patience from the fans in the face of mistakes. The inevitable cock-ups made during the game were met with fewer jeers and less irate bellowing.

Maybe the presence of young academy players plays a part. Or perhaps we're all done booing after the colossal amount of shite we sat through last season.

Either way, long may it continue.

like its been said on here somewhere already-there will be a lot of people away on there summer holiday, and some people like me couldnt afford to go today.
personally,i dont think 17.5k is a bad turnout-keep up the results and we may start brushing around 20k.
why do some people find something to moan about after a solid start to the season.chill

I'm a stayaway who contributed to your "embarassing crowd." thought 17k not too bad given that means around 5k Blades paid on the day. How are you going to feel when the 14 and 15,000 crowds come this season?

I've done more than my duty for 30 years.

But if the club didn't want 'embarassing crowds' then it should have listened to my words of wisdom - it's all about STs. The club has to be dynamic and innovative in keeping and attracting ST holders cos when you lose them they either don't come back or they pick a handful of games.

A prize freeze (when prices are hardly likely to go up anyway) and warning people there won't be any offers - well what did anyone expect? We've lost nearly half our ST holders in just over a year gates will be well down.

And yes the attendance is worth talking about cos lower gates will have all sorts of knock on effects for the club in the future.

Anyway glad the Blades at the gane got something decent to watch.

I agree that it would have been nice to hit the 18000 mark with it been the first home match but I thought the atmosphere was cracking today at times, on the kop at least. If people are genuinely boycotting matches then that's up to them but the fact is that they missed a great match today. Their loss.

personally id prefer 17k fans cheering the team on than 20k+ with the extra 3k just there to bitch n moan at every mistake.
keep up the results and crowds will increase.

COYRAWW!!!!

Exactly plus advertising the ST's under the amazing "True Blades at the Lane" crap may as well of said "Piss off if you can't afford a ticket".

Anyway 17,000 or so is better than what I would of thought and if we are winning that will raise to over 18,000 at least. Look at how crap the Premiership attendance has been it really shows people either are away on holiday or they genuinely cant afford to go to watch overpaid players any more.

If its a cheap offer you are after, why didnt you renew before the deadline like me, and continue 'my duty' for a further 30 years.

there really are only 3 reasons why a blade should not attend BDBL. 1/ dead.2/cant afford it.3/out of the county. the rest of the sad excuses are pisspoor. your a blade,go and support your team............

Almost everyone around me has renewed their STs, apart from a chap in front who's had a concession ST for years and I rather feel has been told that he couldn't have one any more.

It always feels like coming home. I was hugged to death by the chap who sits next to me. One lad who used to sit and eat his bag of sweets has grown into a strapping young man over the years I've been there. I know I made the right decision getting my ST :)

Just got back then?

I was one of the people who was going to boycott going to matches this season, but 3 days before the start of the season i decided it pop along to the Brentford match, and then when i went down on Friday afternoon to pick my ticket up, someone inside me clicked and i ended up coming out with a season ticket.

The bottom line is that i've got about much moral fibre as a Jellyfish, and couldn't boycott to save my life, besides after going to the Lane for the best part of 30 years i physically can't stay away.

Good lad. :)

The other key point, was that going to the match at least a dozen people who knew i was not going to renew or go to the Lane this season, all said i knew that you would end up getting a season ticket!

exactly they are the only 3 reasons why you cant attend anything else is inexcuable ive been going since i was 8 & every home match since i was 9 and i have met so many great people & formed many friendships over the 13 years i will be going every home game because i couldn't think of a better way to spend a saturday

and also Sheffield United fans & "stayaways" should look at the positives as last season Sheffield United only won 11 games (in 9 months) in all competions last season and now Sheffield United have already won 3 games in the 1st week. League 1 & JPT consitute our best chance of winning silverware for long time past & future unless we get taken over by rich arabs like man city.

I'd have loved to come this season.

But with a £10k loan to pay back, unfortunately something had to give. And at the best of £400 plus, the season ticket renewal had to bite the bullet. I'll just have to pick my games until it's paid off.

I'm a stayaway and agree that threatening ST holders with lossers was not the right aproach. I went yesterday on a special. if I'd have had to pay £23 I would not have so the club benefitted from me spending a little in other areas. Ahh if only i could look forward to a half season ticket they may benefit even more but they're not doing them so it looks like they've lost me and my income, unless of course I get to the odd special.

I agree the stay aways ought to stick with us, but to call an attendance of 17,500 in League 1 embarrassing is ludicrous.

It was bigger than many Championship crowds - & 2 to 3 times more than many League 1 clubs can manage.

Spot on Deano, and if we carry on the way we're going it can only increase.

i agree deano & and actually the 17,769 that turned up was quite good as i was expect around 14,500 /15,000 and the attendance was bigger than 2 premier league clubs Qpr (15,195) & Wigan (17,454)

Go, don't go, its your choice. I understand fully why people didn't renew, after all what was there to renew for apart from blind loyalty. We still have that liar of a man in charge of the club so many people will continue to not go. Don't blow all this bollocks that its a Duty or anything else. Almost 18k after what we have witnessed this last 5 years is pretty good in my book.

The club now needs to swallow its pride and put offers on the table for certain games to get more fans into the ground. Mind you, so long as all the "True Blades" are there, the rest of us can take a flying one eh?

I think you and a few others will be waiting for a long time for that. You cannot upset a season ticket holder by de valueing their purchase and commitment. After all they renewed on that basis. It does not matter that the club alienated a lot of last years season ticket holders with certain campaigns. I think the clubs view is that they know how to sustain at this level with what loyalty they have got and if the football is right the lapsed season ticket holders will come back.
Already had a bad experience with the ticket office, so it appears that the loyalty shown in the past accounts for nothing, despite the fact you turn up in person to buy a ticket with your customer number.

I can't go until the Bury game on the 3rd as I'm busy with cricket, so for now I'm a stayaway but I'll be making up for this gross incompetence by bringing a few of my mates along who I have talked into gracing BDTBL :D

What is incorrect in stating that True Blades will do all they can to go to Bramall Lane? If they can't afford it, they'll get to as many matches as they can. If they can afford it, they'll get memberships and season tickets. If they live away, they'll find ways to virtually be at the Lane, through Bladesplayer or places like this. Fans of Sheffield United football club would use any opportunity to support the club.

Some people have interpreted "True Blades at the Lane" as "True Blades are Season ticket holders" and are using it as their excuse to stay away. When the reality is that they just couldn't be arsed to go but want a noble reason for it.

No problem people not going if they don't want to. But they aren't kidding people that it's down to the marketing campaign.

Good to see he's back. Has he got a new cat?

I'm returning tomorrow night - but i'm not 'kin happy about it!

Self imposed ban lasted all of 3 games. Although I get the feeling that they are winning to draw me back in just so they can give me a hard and swift kick in the bollocks with a 3-0 defeat.

I think your missing the point of the people who don't go. Its not down to one thing, but an entire catalogue of things. McCabe and his frugal ways, the way the club has slipped over the edge of the abbyss and into a league it hasn't frequented for over 20 years. Perhaps the way we are told how it hurts him as much as it hurts the fans and yet it obviously doesn't, otherwise he would do something about it. The way we sell any saleable asset within minutes of an offer being tabled (this is the rule with us). Add to that we are paying more to watch Walsall than we were to watch Man United and that doesn't help either.

Then there is the annoyance at the way (in the opinion of some) the club has been used as a giant PR stunt for McCabe to get his feelers into the Global market. At the expense of the first team investment.

All that is a real pisser, but then it really takes the piss when the marketing campaign for the club is "Real Blades are at the Lane". Which by definition is a slap in the kisser for anyone who isn't there. Now when it comes to putting medals on tables, many of these people have been there through worse times. Some of them were there that day Walsall sent us down to Division 4. Some of them witnessed us bumbling around in the mid 80's with a team of old men sucking the life out of the club. Some of them witnessed Dave Bassett keep the team in the highest league in spite of the board doing their upmost to pull the rug from under him (and finally succeed).

Following Sheffield United in any shape or form makes you a true blade in my book. Its not something anyone does for glory. Its more a trial of hope over expectation. That isn't like following Man United or Liverpool. I don't care whether you live in S2 or Exeter. If you follow Sheffield United you are a true blade.

If you want to lure people to the club, get them back or even get them interested then the club really needs to change its marketing strategy. Of course ultimately winning games will be the best way but all those disaffected fans (and christ there are a lot of them) just want a reason to return. If thats a couple of £10 tickets and they enjoy themselves then isn't that a better way to win them back?

I'm all for loyally standing behind the club when there is a reason but some of the stunts pulled by the top level management are indefensible. Whoever runs the marketing of the club should be stood up and pelted with used nappies for some of the decisions taken. Its just a good thing that those over at S6 are dafter than our lot.

Tell us more. Myself & Mrs Travelling are considering going tomorrow night (we couldn't go on saturday, or any other saturday because we are working in our own shop) and we don't want to travel over 100 miles to turn up tomorrow night and be asked to join a membership scheme and pay £70 extra before we can watch the Blades play.
