Thought the midfield looked particularly strong today. Quinn is an outstanding player at this level and looks head and shoulders above the two opposition so far. We really need to hang onto him. I think Montgomery and McDonald looks a Championship pairing in the centre. The former unencumbered by the responsibility of playing forward passes demonstrated his engine, anticipation and positioning. He really is a player of limited ability who has worked really hard on other aspects of his game.

In McDonald we have a player with guile, range and presence. He could really make us tick and looks a fantastic prospect. Having Montgomery sitting behind him really gives him the opportunity to push forward (see the second half) and slide the ball forward. It really looks good and as a partnership will only improve.

I think Laing looks raw and lost his position occasionly, but critically he's got power, pace and a decent engine. I think he could be a handful with some coaching.

Again it was poor opposition (or decent opposition with a bizarre 4-6-0 formation) but we controlled the game and bar a couple of shaky moments we're playing decent football with a bit of bite. Really enjoyed it today and though there are areas to improved, the new signings look good and the football much more progressive. Oh and Wednesday lost!

UTB WIZAAAAAAAAARDS!!!

Looking at the stats today it says the blades had 67% possession - sums it up. Generally strong in midfield I thought and Quinny looks like a different player! McDonald was excellent and though Laing looked a bit nervy at times I thought he contributed well and will get better in time. I'm generally pro Monty but if I'm honest I didn't notice him much today...

Good call. Similar in stature, though McD looks a better passer to me. But both share the affliction of bonkersness by all accounts.

and I thought Quinny was a shadow of how he'd played in the two games previous. He had a good game, but didn't run it. :)

McDonald clearly MoM for me, looks a class signing for this division. I think we need to get August out of the way then we know what we've got and more importantly, the players themselves know what's going on as it must be unsettling for them. Nice to see NML and Squinny switching wings as well, not seen that from us for donkeys. It did only last about 5 minutes but it's a start !
