I am making the pilgrimage to Bramall Lane on Saturday and would like to invite all real ale and proper football loving Blades to come and join me. I shall be hosting the RAPFA opening meeting of the season and preparing for some total football served up by the Red and White Wizards, sandwiched inbetween lots of the divine ambrosia.

Yes brothers we must be strong and resist the we  hoof brigade’s attempt to promote lager and taint ticky tacky, one touch football. We must stand strong against all this long ball, up and at em, ‘direct’ nonsense and encourage Mr Wilson to bring the beautiful game to Bramall Lane. We must get together and pray that Wilson was just using Doyle and Monty in the centre away from home against a ‘physical’ team.

The rough plan is this:

- Sink a few vessels in the Cremorne (on London Road) pre match (be in there from 13:30)
- Post match Kelham Island tasting in the Cricketers – special guest tbc
- (wander over to) Kelham Island area to tickle our taste buds with some heavenly hops

Keep an eye out for a tall, dark handsome fellow wearing a Brazil shirt with ‘Wilson’ on the back, a Dickens novel under the arm, smoking a pipe (if outside) and talking about Pele’s performance as an 18 year old in 58, the way Maradonna had the England players chasing shadows (Monty style), Beckenbauer teaching the Italians how to play despite his dislocated collar bone or Zidanne’s performance agaist Barca in the Champions League semi against Barca in the early naighties.

Any Blade that loves real ale and fast, free flowing attacking football is welcome. My dad will be doing his best impression of the (Yorkshire) dad out of the Plus net broad band adverts, whilst I recite Yeates or debate whether Cryuff or Beckenbauer was the better footballer.

Either his spelling has reached new levels illiteracy (something that seemed impossible before) or he is trying to be abusive but fears he might be sent on another vacant .....

i apologise i will try and make my iliiteracy much betterer like yours

No chance of a stop off at the Devonshire Cat, Ollie? It has a whole lot of real ale, and it's where I'll be, most likely.

Not sure it'll go down too well with the Cricks regulars if the old monsters are out and about.

Last time I looked the Cremorne was the worst pub for any type of beer/ lager. They can't even keep it right. Plus its unreliable and you could end up with cans instead!

It's a possibility: Before or after Guesty?

My traditionalist father never let us go near the Cremorne before a game as he always said the beer was crap there. We'd often end up at a place near CCC (I think) where the beer was okay. God knows what it's called though.

After the reserves games at Saltergate we'd always end up at The Derby Tub; him on Bateman's XXXB and me on Timothy Taylor's Landlord.

I like real ale and I like proper football, I will however be attending the Golden Lion pre-match :)

What time are you planning on being around Kelham Island and what time are you staying around until?

What about the Smoothflow in the Moorfoot?

or you are gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Aha, I should have known that the we  hoof brigade would try to hijack and dismantle this thread! Just ignore them brothers.

Dunno exactly JB. Say 6-7pm-ish .... until we fall over :D

But RAPFA is not a facist organisation and listens to it's members. I've consulted with senior RAOFA colleagues and The Cremorne has apparently gone downhill since I used to live in South Yorks and hence another pre match venue may be better. The Dev Cat and Rutland are both within walking distance and serve decent ale (and food). It's a two horse race between them at the moment.

What's RAOFA? Have you got a splinter group already?

Splitters!

I would say Dev Cat if raining - plenty of room in there. Rutland if the weather is decent, cracking beer garden. Excellent beer in both :-)

Enjoy the crap beer in Cremorne then ;)

... thats if its even open, then have a habit of not even bothering for some games

Both, I would have thought!

Almost certainly drop in either before or after mucker.

Good call Nick owd spadge. It is currently forecast to be 20 and cloudy. I'll make a decision on venue tomorrow.

can we have a chat about the shed olle? :D

Indeed pal. I'll gi everyone an update as am looking for some advice.

I've decided to put on a talk for some of the more intelectually challenged members of the forum on methaphors, similie's, satire aand sarcasm. Will run the talk on the steps opf Sheffield City Hall. All car park protestors, we  hoof brigaders and forum numpties all welcome.

Might I suggest an open discussion on spelling, or at least a basic course on spellchecking.

I might join you for a couple in the Fat Cat or Kelham Island. Won't be until 8.30 ish though. Will you still be standing by then?

Will there be anything on dramatic irony and pathos? I always think that a timely appeal to pathos can make or break a good car park demo...

Breaking news. A special guest is coming down. We have managed to track down and get an acceptance to our invitation from that crackpot who rang Praise or Grumble last week and was baning on about United playing poetically, Quinn being a ginger/white Nasri and the Blades turning out in gold shirts and playing like Brazil in the second half.

BBC is predicting sunny intervals and 18, which means that the Rutland has edged ahead with the finish line.

You may indeed Trig. Do you want to do it? You could follow on from me :)

Not entirely sure JB. I would have thought so, but cannot guarantee it. Will depend on how much we drink. If we scoff some decent grub (maybe at the Fat Cat) then we should be reit. Doubt we'll stya out too late though.

Good call, but dramatic irony and pathos is more Pinchy's territory and he (regretably) cannot make the meeting. We'll put that in for the next meeting :D
