Wasting time with ball in corner

When players take the ball into the corner flag & try to protect it, they waste about 15 seconds and more often as not concede the throw in or lose the ball

Surely its far better to take it into the corner , wait for the defender, then kick the ball against them for a deflection out for a corner or a throw-in.
At least this way you can take time retreiving the ball & then take time taking the set peice maybe 20 / 25 seconds, and then you are still in control of where the ball goes next.

The better option is to try to score a goal, you waste at least a whole minute celebrating. You don't take it into the corner at all, that's cost us at least two points this season already

Probably a bit too chaotic, could go anywhere. Also if they know you'll do it people could prepare so the ball is more likely to go where they want

We're rubbish at the shithousing timewasting.

The best thing we can do is to keep the ball, take our time, pick the right passes and if we lose the ball higher up the field. Then get organised to protect the ball, i suppose the only good thing with taking the ball to the corner is that its further away for when teams lump it onto our centre halves...

There is nothing good about taking the ball into the corner, and as Swiss says above, we are very bad at it!

Pass the bloody thing between you, we have been guilty of taking well over a minute getting from our goal area to the half way line when we've been behind or level this season, why not do it when it is actually useful?

Maybe, I don't know.

You can only hold it up in the corners if you are good at doing it. We have rarely been good at it.

With the way we have been defending this season scoring another goal is better than trying to hold it up.

Well said- what people forget is this is an entertainment industry. Watching players fart about in the corner is not worth £25 a match.

I remember thinking this just showed the confidence the side has (Had at the time). I think it might have been post bouncing day against someone.

In the days of the cricket pitch where the South Stand is now, and we were protecting a lead with minutes to go, the ball would sometimes - accidentally - be booted into the distance and the ball boys would - accidentally - trip over the ropes round the cricket square on their journey to collect it. They would then throw it back in a kind of relay system that took ages to achieve. Very amusing - though I can't remember whether refs added on time for that sort of malarkey.

This really gets my goat when they try to waste time in the corner, especially last match too. Couple of times they could have gone for goal, 3-1 and you dont need to worry how bad you are at timewasting. The Blades simply cant do it.

We once had a ball boy that took the piss big time, he was barely 11 or 12 years old, might’ve been younger and really took the piss a few years ago if memory serves me right, he got some great plaudits for it the cheeky little chappie at the time.

It is weird that teams will do this yet, similarly, they do not recognise that if, say, you win a corner 30 seconds into 1 minute of stoppage time at the end of the half, the opposition will not have time to break and therefore the correct play is to send the keeper up
