In their club-by-club guide for League 1, The Times predicts:

1. Blades
2. 'Udders
3. W**nesday

Do they know something we don't???
 



no its more a case of we know something they dont, both us and wendy are crap :)
as stated in another thread, these so called football reporters really dont do thier homework.

While I don't think we will win it, I'm becoming increasingly confident of a half decent season.

If Kruk and McDonald are signed up, along with Parrino and Duke I think we have a reasonable squad. Personally I think we would be a forward and a winger away from a side that would challenge but its a strong squad none the less.

I think a lot will depend on how we start the season. Plenty of the players left over from last year will probably still be low on confidence, and we really need them to get used to winning again, and quickly. The likes of Maguire and Slew don't really know what that's like yet at first team level.

If we bring in those players you suggest, I think we're actually a stronger proposition on paper than this time last year.

I've just penned a preview blog on our prospects for the new We Are Going Up football league blog - my verdict was 'cautious optimism'. I like what I've seen so far this pre-season, and am far more optimistic than I thought I'd be at the point DW was appointed.

Would there be a chance of Riise coming back or is it too much of a drop? He would be a great addition to the squad

I can't see how that deal would happen. I don't think we could afford him, and I doubt he'd be interested in playing tier 3 football.

Despite your blatant piece of self publicity, I did go against my better judgment and not really understanding what a blog is, I read it.

Struggle as I might, I'd have to say I pretty much agree with all of it :-)

If we're struggling to get the pennies together to enable us to sign three players without clubs, two of whom are almost certainly potential low-wage earners, I doubt we'll be seeing anyone like Riise joining us this season - that's even if he wanted to drop down two divisions. Premiership loanees will more likely be in the previously-unheard-of youth team player variety. If we see any at all that is.

I would much rather we signed Kruk, McDonald and Parrino for what I would guess would be a lower wage outlay than we spent on Nyron Nosworthy this time last year.

I've also advocated for a long time that we would be better signing a young, up-and-coming Premiership player than an established pro from a Premiership team's reserves: Jay Emmanuel-Thomas would have been a far better signing than Marcus Bent, for example.
 
Jol has already stated that Riise Jnr is in his plans for this season anyway.
 
I remember in summer 2005, buying the Times and seeing they had predicted us to finish 19th. This was after the additions of Ifill, Shipperley, Unsworth etc to the squad and Jagielka's signing of a new contract. They had predicted swfc, Hull etc to both finish above the Blades. I think we got 90 points and finished 2nd.
 



The editor is a pig (self admitted) - I think we'll finish 2nd with Huddersfield probably as champions, PNE, Pigs could also win it though along with us, too hard to call.

If 4-4-2's editor is still Hugh Sleight, he's definitely a Pig fan (he's a particularly sad case as he isn't from Sheffield and has no family ties to the Pigs). I was at University with him.

Ahem does this include us Brummies who live approx 90 minutes away and goes to the Lane as often as he can when he can afford to (which given my pay rise is quite often)? :p
 
No, I can understand why someone who was not from Sheffield or had any connection there would support United. That's obvious.

But the Pigs? They are evil.
 
Er...no. Sky can only think in terms of BIG, BIG NAMES or PREMIERSHIP. Therefore SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY and MILAN MANDARIC are in. No more thought goes into it than that.
 
Or Sky have just copied and pasted Four Four Two's predictions, word for word.
 
Do we even have a TV game on Friday or Saturday evenings? Pigs have some we don't - pssh.
