Derby fans a disgrace

Lads - dialectical Yorkshire word for males.
Talent - colloquial positive superlative
Normal - descriptive of a phenomenon being common.

If you find these things problematic you're probably an elitist buffoon (as your condescending use of 'mint' indicates). As such you are probably the one who has misunderstood 'socialism'. Decency and respect are also inherently subjective. Some might find taking the piss out of language associated with the working class to be both disrespectful and demonstrating a lack of decency...
Aye cos those words have one definitive meaning and aren’t “inherently subjective”
Nowt to do with class & Im struggling to comprehend how / why you (try to) conflate “taking the piss” out of a word with no (other) pejorative meaning / ‘understanding ( to my knowledge) with what is & isn’t decent

nb It has previously been (considered) “normal” to put bairns up chimneys, exclude women from voting, (still is) & avoid the sight of legs on furniture
Incredibly, (thankfully) norms can & do change, there are plenty of words, phrases& most importantly inherent attitudes reflected by that word I no longer use in certain contexts
I still meet up with ‘the lads’
I don’t (any longer) get my ‘tabs’ from the ‘P***i shop (In Grimethorpe)
I (continue to) appreciate the (outstanding) talent of Billy Sharp
I (personally) dislike the use of the word mint ( & ‘class’) as a generic superlative - I also prefer ‘gaol’ to ‘jail’ as a spelling but hey ho

Not got much to add to this thread - lot of people have summed up my thoughts.

I’ll just add we are less than 2 years removed from dean Henderson stating in a national newspaper - he had suicidal thoughts and ‘considered driving off the snake pass’ after the chants aimed at him.

If you wanted a reason to reconsider how the ‘banter’ might impact players - who although they are handsomely rewarded have the exact same issues and demons as the rest of the general population.

We’ve no idea how it might impact the individual when ‘making up’ a chant like that, but that ought to give you pause to at least consider it.
The abuse that Henderson got that day at Elland Road was off the scale to the extent that I would call it outright criminal behaviour.

Every effort should have been made to identify all the perpetrators, although of course nothing was done and nothing was reported in the local or national press either.

It really boils my piss when our idiots sling totally unfounded abuse at any opposition player just because he is an opposition player.

I thought the Derby fans were class tbh. Sung all afternoon and really got behind their club (which is in a total mess right now).

The sex offender (we are out on a bender) chant is a bit silly but Billy wont be the only one who gets it this season (given how it seems to be catching on).

Glad Billy got the last laugh though. His interview made me spit out my drink. Brilliant.

Fucks sake. No wonder the Lane is turning into a library if this forum is an accurate representation of our fans.

I'm just off to turn myself in at the local nick and when they ask me why I think I'm a danger to women, I'll tell them honestly - "it's because I've willingly joined in with a few renditions of 'Shoreham boys, we are here' at the match, officer".

It's always the right time to call out violence against women. It's particularly a good time to call it out when recent & local incidents are fresh in everyone's minds. We must never say - no, not now.
Put me on ignore as well.
It's always the right time to call out violence against anyone to be honest. To live in an equal society means all violence must be called out. I am aware that there is a disproportionate amount of male to female violence than female to male, but to me, all violence is fuckin stupid. If you think you're a hard man, good luck to ya (not you, just general folk).

I notice another stabbing in town the other night. Pussies.

Seems a bit of a touchy overreaction? Not sure anyone has suggested that joining in with with a few renditions of 'shoreham boys we are hear' makes you a danger to women; just the suggestion that singing songs like that might have some pretty unpleasant unintended consequences, however harmlessly they are meant and that it might be worth reconsidering our repertoire on the back of it.

You may have a point on the library though, I can recall countless opposition managers' interviews along the lines of 'we bottled it at Bramall Lane, quite frankly we were shitting ourselves about their dubiously ambiguous attitude towards consent'

You've obviously not read through the thread then. Take a look at some of the stuff spouted by Flatulent Bob and Ball Sup Phil in the first few pages if it's touchy reactions you're after.

Its essentially like singing my dick is bigger than your dick. Which in turn is essentially what every football chant is about and indeed the act of supporting a football club. Its all a bit of fun and most of us know it's tongue in cheek. If you don't like it, don't do it.
Both interpretations of the chant are valid, it's subjective.

I completely understand how you came to your conclusion, but you don't seem to accept that "shag your women and drink your beer" can be reasonably interpreted as objectification.

I've chanted it for years and still do, I think it's a borderline case. Don't know why you're so resistant to agreeing with others about their interpretations though that are hardly irrational.

Don't think your reaction was touchy, but thinking that there's a link between slightly sexist chants and violence against women does make people incredibly defensive.

We are all human, and most of us do bad, nasty things every so often that directly affect people negatively. That singing Shoreham Boys is a bit sexist should be easier to brush off than finishing the last bit of butter and not replacing it.

Thanks. Do you mean it's to do with being handsome in a conventional sense? Tall, muscular, well groomed, that sort of thing? Or might it have something to do with material things? Better car? Well fitting trousers? A phone that takes photos? I mean up until page 5, I thought the song was essentially about rape. But, now it's been BladesPlained to me, I might as well know the exact interpretation I'm putting on it when I belt it out at Middlesbrough.
I didn't know Mr Logic from Viz had started posting on here

Is it also correct that a whistle was getting blown (from the away end) whenever we attacked? I sit on the southstand nearest the kop and can’t say I heard one, but many people was talking about it after the game.

Normalising misogyny, racism or homophobia is wrong, whichever way you slice it. There’ll be women at BDTBL who have been the victim of sexual assault; do you think they’ll find it funny when a ‘witty’ chant references the abuse they suffered?

Same with the songs about black players having massive cocks. It normalises these opinions about people and makes truly racist ideas seem less abhorrent.

The sooner we can remove these blights from our society the better, but one of the things that has saddened me as I’ve got older is that bigotry seems to have become more entrenched in society, rather than less.

Big task for anyone who wants to take it on. Sheffield United and football aside you don't have to look far in the average music collection to find lyrics that are less than flattering to women and don't get me started on religion...

Fair warning to all. I'm in the "lucky" position of being able to monetise my Twitter feed, Blog and occasional Fanzine article and live off the proceeds. I write about a totally fictitious parody football gang called the Carrier Bag Firm. I get a lot of ideas from this forum. And, I'm pretty sure I'm going to work up a Parody Piece around the "shag your women" song really being about female empowerment & women exercising their choice in sexual partners. Maybe try & draw out some hidden messages in the other lyrics as well. That sort of thing. Too good an opportunity to miss. Absolute GOLD.
Anyone who prefers not to be identified had better say so.
How about a parody blog on drinking alcohol relating to the number of alcohol deaths per year? KERCHING!

Had the following email during the early hours from a Derby fan...

"
I was in the away end today. Found this forum googling what Sharp had allegedly done. Seems to be some absolute bollocks, some kind of they said this about Ronaldo so we'll say this about a completely different bloke?

There were two or three in the away end saying a lot more even before kick off, Sharp had been paying people off with the owners money , he'd shagged a 15 year old etc. Very specific stuff. Seemed bloody odd at the time and even weirder after they'd started the chants.

Please don't blame the average derby fan, me and those around me were bemused and let's be honest joined in some half-hearted you twat kind of weak banter. Many who did sing out the (frankly fucking well out of line clearly) songs were under a very strong impression there was some kind of court case. I'll be honest I didn't exactly love the guy on 90 minutes myself. And like a cunt I shouted some abuse at him I'm now not proud of.

No excuse, but an explanation for your fans who I'd imagine are fucking baffled. All involved, derby, shef utd, shef wed or whatever need to fucking grow up."
"Two or three in the away end" managed to tell the other 2000 just before kick-off. Sounds believable.

As the CBF business model does not generate enough income to fully fund our activities, we have to rely on VIP invites to pub & bar openings and brewery & beer launches for a lot of our Ale. We generally find the beer industry are falling over themselves to be associated with the CBF Brand. Pubs & bars at away matches are particularly keen to offer us freebies for simple, biased and partisan promotion to other fans via our wide & diverse social media reach.
We rarely mention this aspect of our business, for fear people will find out & we'll fuck it up for ourselves.

Aye
& Sidney Aloysius Smutt
Perhaps we should invite contributions from Sandra & Tracey?

ps love the (intended?) irony of referencing an in itself ironic (now jaded inconsequential) ‘publication’ offering reflection on attitudes / behaviours that were deemed (only by some, it would appear) outdated / unacceptable 30 years ago

Sadly I can’t refute that. But just because it’s prevalent elsewhere doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try to eradicate it closer to home.

Would any of the BladesPlainers care to have a deconstruct of the terrace song which includes
"I'd let you shag my wife"
On the face of it, that's about men owning women and being able to share them around for sex, and I dare say would constitute rape.....
But, I've been wrong before......

Derby should be looking for all the friends they can attract. Not verbally abusing their opponents.
I now hope they go under and feck off for good.

PS. Was that Derby supporting idiot Mick Phillpot leading the chanting?

Some people have no sense of humour whatsoever
