One step at a time, and there’s plenty more that will happen between now and the end of the season, but it’s nice to have a bit of the old momentum and expectation back.

He's not only got us playing great football again, but perhaps more importantly, he seems to have shaken last season out of the players.

I had on my mind that we’d be getting close to Christmas before Slav shook us out of our stupour, given how baked in the tactical system was and the murky depths the players morale had reached. The fact he’s managed it in mid September shows what an outstanding manager he is at this level.

Fleck is the case in point. I’d forgotten how effective he is driving with the ball at his feet, particularly in transition. It’s probably one of his best attributes and marks him out as a top, top player at this level. Slav has managed to improve his performances radically. That’s why I hold out hope for Brewster and the rest of the players who haven’t hit the heights yet. All the players need a chance and our backing.
