Brilliant summary of recent events in the world of SUFC - and something I personally agree with 100% - many have slated McCabe for alleged "pulling money out of United", however my agument was always, maybe not everyone appreciated the investment (mostly bad ones in hindsight) he had funded prior to all this cost cutting. We (as fans) might not like it, but its impossible for McCabe (even with all his relative wealth) to continue spunking millions on United, and for all the bad decisions (Robson era, Chengdu, Hotel & Residential investments) I truely believe he did all this with the best of intensions and with the idea of making United eventually a profitable club who could self-sustain. He has lost as much as anyone (financially) in all this despair (and rightly so, its his investment therefore its his potential reward or risk), but i can't fault his intentions, just his execution of the mission.
On the field, the guy pretty much sums up exactly what we all know, and with a great bit of balance to his arguments. Blacky possibly should've gone earlier or not until later, Speed possibly might become a good manager - but it never seemed like an appointment based on confidence, but on hope and convenience, and Adams seemed like a safe (albeit uninspiring) option, yet proved just a catalyst in the inevitable downturn.
Maybe he might have been given a chance to turn us round this year (personally i was hoping not due to my own lack of confidence in his signing ability in the transfer market), but alas we are now where we are, and we still have not much clarity on where that is at the moment, and have to hope the next few weeks reveal a bit more on where we are heading in the next few months or years.
We know one thing though, if its anything like the last few years, it will certainly not lack drama (has any other club in England had so much controversy / drama in the last ten years or so than us? - it seems to have followed us ever since the infamous arsenal "abandoned" match, on to missing promotion to an "administration managed" Leicester, the "Battle of Bramall Lane", play-off heartache (numerous times), promotion, relegation, the tevez saga, spunking the most money we've ever had in our history under one of the worst managers in history AFTER being relegated back to the championship rather than spending it the year before with one of our better managers in history, play-off failure (again), selling not one but two of the best young players ever seen at BDTBL and eventual relegation to the 3rd tier for the first time in decades!)
Oh well, we can't ever say its boring at Bramall Lane!!
UTB!
