wot a load of twadle, some people on this site ought to take some happy pills, cheer up you misrible buggers, were going up next year:hello: ken dodd sang happiness, happiness, we could be promoted by feb next year. [coat at the ready] .:)

I would be extremely surprised if we were to get promoted next season.

This has nothing to do with happy pills, just an accurate assessment of where we currently are and where we need to get to.

Its all imponderable at this stage anyway. A lot of players will move in and out of clubs between now and August and we have no idea what our squad will be.

Even after the comings and goings we will have little idea of how well we are going to do. Assumptions of we might do this and might do that are nothing but speculation.

If I was speculating, I would say it might take us time to adjust to this level but once we find our feet we could be there or thereabouts. As I said though, its guess work atm.

I'm with bendy, being in the Third Division rocks.:dj::beer::hug::heart::croc::emmy::badger:

One problem; we're fookin shit.

You're on the wrong site Benders. This site is about differing opinions. However, if you go on Betfair you can fleece anyone who isn't thinking the same as you and laugh all the way to the bank.

It's called putting your money where your big happy grin is.

cannot remember all them words in that song, did he sing it about us?
raul, its time to do you youtube bit on this.

If yer happy and yer know it clap yer hands.............If yer happy and yer know it clap yer hands.............If yer happy and yer know it and yer really want to show it clap yer hands............. :easy:

I think 2012/13 will be our promotion year. This season will be ins and outs and readjusting the wage bill to the levels we should be at for a league one/championship side.

Oh well, I have read this thread and thought again. Time to be a clapper today.

You can put as much positive spin on our decline from championship challangers to div 3 no hopers as you wish, but in my humble opinion, there is as much chance of relegation as there is promotion.

Some will say we now have the outstanding candidate, who was head and shoulders above the others now at the helm to lead us back to glory. While others may say, he's f'kin useless!

Some will also say he knows the lower leagues well, will have an eye for a bargain and has experience of bringing the youngsters through. Others may still say, he's f'kin useless

Time will tell!

But hey................................................we're all Blades aren't we? :)

Not as shit as most of the Third Division.

That remains to be seen. We thought we were better than most of the division in 1980-1, but still managed to get relegated.

I think we'll be rubbish early doors as what will probably be a team of players who barely know each other take time to gel. Then we'll start getting a few sneaky wins and before you know it we'll be up there and vying for promotion. Well something along those lines anyway.

back on planet earth ........................... we are going to struggle Danny boy will be gone by Christmas ....I just hope McCabe has gone too ! :fatbastard:

history lesson

the last time we were relegated to this division there were very similar reasons to be downbeat , poor squad , no money, crappy run down , new manager from a then up coming wimbledon, who are they ? 10000 gates at that time .

but we came straight back up and went streaight through to the top division like norwich just have done .

So we can all be miserable pessimists

or
god forbid

have a bit of faith and optimism

Yeah but last time we had someone incharge that knew how to get the best from the dross we had. Cant see Danny boy doing that. But we will wait and see.

Agree. Think we might finish mid table this season. We will probably have a chance of the playoffs with 5 games to go and bottle it.

Good point. I think people forget how poor Bassett's record was when he took us down in 1988:

P15 W5 D1 L9

Like Adams he took over when, whilst United were in trouble the situation wasn't critical. Whilst his record was not as bad as Adams, he still failed to do what he had been employed to do and keep us up (and unlike Adams, despite finishing third bottom, he had a second chance to keep us up via the play offs and failed there as well). In addition the team he had managed earlier that seasn - Watford - had also been relegated.

Bassett must have looked pretty much a busted flush in the summer of 88 and, I am sure, if message boards had been around then, there would have been strident calls for his head.

For some strange reason I'm looking forward to the coming season more than I have for a while. Not because of the standard of football, which will undoubtedly be garbage in the main, but because it's a venture into the (almost) unknown.

We really don't know how our team will shape up, and while I'd like a bit more clarity as to the in's and out's at this stage in reality it's going to chop and change until 31st August given the nature of the transfer window. In our case, we're going to be left to sweat until the last minute with regards the players on big wages that we want to get shut of. Makes sense that teams will want to screw the best deal possible out of us, especially if - and we don't know for sure but we could be - desperate to offload. And until we do offload, can Wilson invest in new blood?

It will be interesting to see how L1 teams will look to get after us as well. If we recall, the clowns in S6 started with a bang but teams soon worked out they were crap and went after them accordingly. Can Wilson put a side together that can compete from the off. It's a big ask for any manager given our recent past, but for a bloke who is by no means a popular choice it will be all the more important. I always feel a manager should be given time, but let's be honest, time is not going to be a commodity he has.

We've also got a whole load of grounds that we haven't been too in a dogs age, I'd guess that we'll be taking our biggest away following for a while to Oldham and with slightly lower prices in L1 and the chance to go to places other than the humbrum of Watford, Ipswich and the like then there *may* be a lift of the apathy that has been our away support for a while now.

Sure, it could all explode in our faces. But that hope that maybe, just maybe, we'll start on the long road to recovery is enough for optimism on my part.

Its frowned upon round here to be happy and confident. I'm with you though. We need a top 6 finish

Wonder what Swindon thought before start as last season? Where do you get the happy pills from? I will ask Danny boy at end of season, when he's either a god or a git.
I know which my moneys on!
