Two years ago we were getting the plaudits for how we were playing, the spirit and passion of the players and the noise the crowd were making. Now it is Brentford's turn to be in the spotlight and watching their game yesterday I felt a little jealous. I wonder how much more difficult they would find it if they were playing behind closed doors though?

I have to admit that it felt worse as they were wearing the red and white stripes (on the back of the shirt as well - take note Utd when this nonsense about seeing the number on the back is peddled) and the passion from the crowd noise was there. Felt like we did v Arsenal at the Lane when we did em 1 nil.

Fair play to em, they have a model and stuck to it and last night was their turn and this season their time in the sun. I think they will ultimately struggle and I can see it being a tight squeak for a good few clubs this season and some of them will see their luck run out (Newcastle anyone?). Last season was a dead duck for relegation as I thought all along Fulham and WBA werent good enough. What I didn't figure on was Utds form falling of a cliff.

Time for Slav to inspire our troops, our lads to earn their wedge, and hopefully this time next year we will be back with a full house BDTBL rocking again.

Oh, and I could see it being a totally different ball game / result for Brentford last night behind closed doors. The crowd being in makes a huge difference I think we all know that.

If we want stripes on the back, we need to get shut of Adidas first.

Not really. Just football innit.

No…..why would anyone be jealous of Brentford. They deserve loads of credit.
Always had a soft spot for teams that play in red and white stripes with black shorts.

In recent times, Brentford have always had quite a small budget, always been forced to sell off their best players, always tried to play keep possession passing football. They are a small club proving what seems impossible to most other owners.

The Brentford business model make the Sheff Wed and Derby business models look ridiculous and shameful.
Mel Morris and Chancer are convinced the only way to gain promotion is to gamble and spend big.

I certainly don’t have soft spot for Brentford. They are just another self entitled London team, who if they’d been promoted the same season as us, would have been gazumping all our transfer targets, simply because of their location in the capital.

I hope they have a good season and bloody a few more noses, but I can see the bubble bursting when bigger clubs come in for the likes of Toney and Mbuemo and they find that replacing them with players who are ready is much harder and more expensive in the Prem.

They haven't had a small budget. They've spent a fucking fortune on scouting which, in fairness, has unearthed some gems for them who they've sold on for big bucks.

They've built steadily over the years and they're probably entitled to their day in the sun, but they haven't done it on a shoestring and the money involved certainly shits on the "Oooh we're not supposed to be here!" narrative that Frank was trying to push on Sky last night.

Their fans are arrogant sods despite their club having done fuck all in their history, and there are too many London clubs in the Premier League. Fuck 'em.

The levels of fuck I couldn’t give are up there with what colour would Burnley paint their bogs and whats the content of Gemma Collins pants

They absolutely deserve every bit of credit they get.

they’ve gone up by selling players and replacing them with players just as talented at a fraction of the cost. They’ve not simply bought promotion they’ve invested and earned it.

they also play extremely attractive football. Fair play to them and I hope they enjoy it.

im not jealous we had the opportunity to build something special but threw it away. It’s time to roll our sleeves up and start again,

Not spiteful jealous because I hope they do well- but yes definitely pains that we are still not in the Prem.

Rancours the absolute shit we bought in McBurnie, Brewster, Lowe, Burke- just even half decent recruitment and we'd have been OK but oh no when the decisions were made- we made awful ones.

And to be fair to Brentford- they didn't go at it timidly the took the game to Arse from start to finish- brilliant night for them

I agree.

It's depressing to see yet another club emerge due, in large part, to accident of geography.

No doubt, Fulham will be back at the top table next year, and many are tipping the likes of sodding QPR and Luton to be back there too, joining the likes of Palace and Watford who are now becoming well-established above their historic station. And, of course, we've already experienced the rise of South coast clubs - Brighton, Bournemouth and Southampton - to similar elevated standing (pity the fans of Portsmouth - arguably the 'proper club' on the South coast - as they endure this era).

Outside of the established wealth of the North-west giants, it increasingly feels like football is just becoming a game where you can only succeed in the south-east, where the (often foreign) money is attracted to.

The perfect way to run a football club, find real quality for peanuts, and sell it for the outrageous amount that they've got in their heads and do not budge from that figure.

Instead of wasting millions on signing players they invest millions in their scouting network, and done a fantastic job of it.

But their fans are everything that is wrong with football, a bunch of middle class jonny come lately wankers who were probably the most critical bunch of twats towards us when we were on our way up.

So I personally hope they crash and burn and all their fans revert back to watching Chelsea on MOTD

I cannot believe the arrogant nonsense being spouted by Blade fans nowadays. OK so some clubs have been helped by wealthy owners (Bournemouth, Watford and Wolverhampton) but there have been some smaller clubs that have over achieved too such as Burnley, Norwich and West Bromwich. Just because Sheffield United has done their usual trick of totally fucking up a decent situation, why are we so bloody bitter with everyone nowadays?

I really enjoyed the game and were chuffed to bits for them.
Great club are Brentford.
Will be following them in the prem this season, I really hope they stay up.
Jealous?
Not one bit.

I like what they have done and how they have done it,kit, buying players, selling players,manager,owners,fans.stadium.

A little club suceeding in a very big city, with "real massive" neighbours.

Congratulations to Brentford not only on their promotion , but a good win last night
They were good enough to go up
We should have had enough to stay up but weren’t good enough due to a wide variety of reasons, manager / signings / tactics / lack of form / no fans etc etc it’s as simple as that
Good luck to em

I'm envious but fair do's to them they've deserved promotion ... they have been so close on numerous occasions ... let's hope Utd can bounce back soon UTB

Just a shame they have got a dick of a manager. Can't stand him

Fair play to them, they’ve attacked Arsenal who’s fans have a case of premier league massive about themselves and beaten them. Reminded me of how we were when we first went up. It might not last, so they do right to enjoy every minute

No good luck to them
Saddens me a little that the money in English football being as heavily unequally invested as in every other aspect of life means that pretty soon outside the northern powerhouses of Merseyside and Manchester there will be no northern teams in the prem

Has the heat got to you? I would suggest that SUFC are smaller than all these teams. Norwich and WBA are yo-yo clubs and Burnley have done much better than us over the last 60 years ffs.

Just to re-iteratate an interesting stat. The wonderful Blades are along with Rochdale the only club in English professional football never to have won at Wembley/the Millenium stadium since WWII in anything !!! At least Rochdale got to the final of the league cup eh (when it was a two leggged affair). That is bloody shit in anyone's book. It hurts me like hell. Teams like bloody Swindon and Oxford and Luton for Christ's sake. We should be permanently sponsored by a bottle company 'cos we permanently screw it up however 'well we are doing'.
